Arthur T. Krom, 84, died Sunday night at Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam.
Born Oct. 31, 1912, in Jamestown, he moved to the Amsterdam area as
a child.
Mr. Krom was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for 35 years.
He was married to Rose Panunzio. She died in 1981.
He was a member of Local Union IUE No. 301.
Mr. Krom is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Carusone of Amsterdam;
four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
No services were scheduled.
Arrangements were by the Albany Medical College, Anatomical Gift Program.
Dorothy Kowalski
Dorothy J. Kowalski, 78, of Route 29A, Caroga Lake, died Monday at Nathan
Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a long illness.
Born in Johnstown, Mrs. Kowalski was educated at St. Patrick's School
and was a graduate of Johnstown High School.
She was a waitress for Vrooman's Hotel, the Maple Tree Knoll, and the
Unger House. She also was a self-employed dressmaker.
Mrs. Kowalski was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Johnstown.
She also was a member of the 50-Plus Senior Citizens of Johnstown.
Her husband, William J. Kowalski Sr., whom she married Aug. 12, 1939,
died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, William J. Jr. and Michael Kowalski, both
of Caroga Lake; two daughters, Barbara Donnelly of Greenwich and Rosemary
Jenner of Kingswood, Texas; three sisters, Catherine Miller of Lake Hamilton,
Fla., Marguerite Eacker of Sunrise, Fla. and Marie Losee of Johnstown;
seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 8:30 a.m. Thursday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main
St., and at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, both in Johnstown, where a
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Caroga Lake Volunteer Fire
Department or the American Cancer Society.
James Trumbull
James A. Trumbull, 92, of the Fulton County Infirmary, Gloversville,
died Sunday at the infirmary, where he lived for three years.
Born April 22, 1904, in Johnstown, he was the son of Horatio and Mary
Rogers Trumbull.
He lived in Johnstown most of his life and was a graduate of Johnstown
High School.
Mr. Trumbull was employed at the former Bormans Coat Factory in Johnstown
and at Heacock Leather in Gloversville and last as a real estate salesman
with the Arlene M. Sitterly Inc. Realtors in Johnstown for many years.
He married Lillian Filmer June 1924. She died Aug. 4, 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Constance Shepard of Gloversville; two
sons, Douglas R. Trumbull of Johnstown and David E. Trumbull of Gloversville;
seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family
today at Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of the Reformed Church of Johnstown, officiating.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown.

Ethel Havel
Ethel M. Havel, 72, of Trackside Apartments, died Monday at Nathan Littauer
Hospital in Gloversville.
Born March 8, 1925, in Fonda, she was the daughter of John and Grace
Wilder Murphy. She was a graduate of the former Fonda High School and moved
to Johnstown in 1946.
Mrs. Havel was a communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church
in Johnstown. She was a member of the Johnstown Women of the Moose.
On Nov. 9, 1946, she married Joseph Havel. He died Jan. 17, 1961.
Mrs. Havel is survived by her daughter, Linda Havel of Northville; two
sons, Joseph Havel and Jeffrey Havel, both of Johnstown; one brother, Elmer
Murphy of South Carolina; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday at
St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Johnstown.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N.
William St., Johnstown.

Michael Fregin
Michael R. Fregin, 43, of East State Street, Johnstown, died Sunday
at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after being stricken at home.
Born in Ilion, Mr. Fregin was educated in Mohawk.
He was a laborer for the Glen Travel Depot in Fultonville.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Fregin; six sons, Michael Fregin Jr.
of Johnstown, Robert Fregin of Gloversville, Shawn, Matthew and Jack Daniels
Fregin all of Amsterdam, and Wayne Williams of Little Falls; five daughters,
Jessica Fregin of Johnstown, Michelle Fregin of Albany, Jenni and Ashlee
Marie Fregin, both of Amsterdam, and Janet Harrington of Little Falls;
and his long-time companion, Sherie Gates of Johnstown.
There will be no services.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Barter & Donnan Funeral
Home, Main and Melcher streets.
Cremation will be in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.
Eileen Gilston
Eileen Bouton Gilston, 83, of 144 S. Pawling St., Hagaman, died Sunday
evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born March 10, 1914, in Fonda, she was the daughter of Dr. LaVerne A.
and Ethel McGraph Bouton.
Mrs. Gilston was a lifelong area resident and attended St. Mary's Institute,
graduating in 1932. She also attended the College of St. Rose. Mrs. Gilston
was a receptionist at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, and later was a director
of activities at the Montgomery County Infirmary, Amsterdam, retiring in
1981.
Mrs. Gilston was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam,
the Altar Society of St. Mary's Church and St. Mary's Women's Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband, William J. Gilston Sr., whom she married
Aug. 22, 1940; two sons, William J. Gilston Jr. of Fonda and Joseph W.
Gilston Sr. of Broadalbin; a daughter, Mary Eileen Gilston of Hagaman;
two brothers, LaVerne A. Bouton II of Tribes Hill, and Dean M. Bouton of
Schenectady; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Calling hours are 11 a.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171
Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial
to be celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam, at 1 p.m.
Arrangements are by the Boice Funeral Home, 124 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Margaret Forest
Margaret Forest, 91, of Trackside Homes, Johnstown, died Monday at the
Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.
Born and educated in Manhattan, Mrs. Forest lived in Johnstown since
1946. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
Mrs. Forest was also a member of the 50-Plus Senior Citizens Club.
Her husband, Daniel Forest, died in 1972.
Survivors include a brother, Palmer Cohara of Branchville, N.J.
There will be no services or calling hours.
Cremation will be in Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Arrangements are under the direction of the A.G. Cole Funeral Home.
Mary McNamara
Mary M. McNamara, 99, of St. Johnsville Nursing Home, formerly of Maple
Avenue Apartments, Canajoharie, died Sunday night at the nursing home after
a long illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1898, in Richfield Springs, she was the daughter of Andrew
Murphy and Susan Styles. She attended country schools in the area.
A homemaker, she was formerly employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for
several years.
Mrs. McNamara had been a resident of the Palatine Bridge and Canajoharie
areas since 1929.
She was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mrs.
McNamara was also a member of the Mapletown Grange.
She married Raymond M. McNamara on April 6, 1921 in West Winfield. He
died April 28, 1980.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Darrow of Sprakers; a son, Edward
McNamara of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters;
and several nieces and nephews.
A prayer service is planned at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of
Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home Inc., 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie,
and at 11 a.m. at St. James Church, Reid Street, where a Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated. The Rev. Kenneth Swain will officiate.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Frederick Helms
Frederick R. Helms, 65, of Marilyn drive, Glenville, died Wednesday
at home after being stricken.
Born in Schenectady, Mr. Helms was a lifelong area resident.
He was a graduate of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and attended
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
He was a computer applications engineer for the General Electric Co.
from 1952 to 1966. He was vice president and general manager of the Financial
Computer Center of Eastern New York, a GE affiliate, from 1966 to 1979;
program manager for GE Information Services from 1979 to 1985; and a senior
consultant for GE Consulting from 1985 until his retirement in 1991.
Mr. Helms was a former member of the Scotia-Glenville Board of Education.
He was also a member of the GE Elfun Society, the Beukendaal Masonic Lodge
and the GE Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bette Ann Harrison Helms, whom he married
in 1952; two daughters, Stacy M. Wilson of Charlton and Karen E. Henderson
of Scotia; two sons, Michael P. Helms off Alta Loma, Calif., and Douglas
F. Helms of Knoxville, Tenn.; his mother, Ethel Helms of Rotterdam; a brother,
Robert W. Helms of Webster; and two grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Glenville Funeral
Home, 9 Glenridge Road, East Glenville.
Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service at the
funeral home.

Minna Foster
Minna W. Foster, 104, of 13 S. Hollywood Ave., Gloversville, died Friday
at home after a short illness.
Born July 8, 1892 in Hoboken, N.J., she was the daughter of August and
Ellen Pollak Weideman.
She resided in Astoria, Long Island, for several years, then in Northville
for 27 years, and in Gloversville for the past 49 years.
Mrs. Foster was a designer model with Cerf Brother Inc. of New York
City many years ago.
She was a member of the Northville United Methodist Church and a charter
member of its Gleaners Class and Juanita Chapter of the Order of the Eastern
Star, Northville.
She was married to Edward D. Foster. He died in 1972.
Survivors include a daughter, Dolores B. Easterly of Gloversville; seven
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Foster was predeceased by two daughters, Zara Schuh and Mabel McTeague.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Walrath & Bushouer
Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Blowers, pastor
of Northville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory with final interment at Prospect
Hill Cemetery in Northville.
Mildred Pettit
Mildred R. Pettit, 93, of 131 Midline Road, Broadalbin, died Friday
at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Jan. 18, 1904 in Scottsville, Vt., she was the daughter of Fred
and Mattie Door Hullet. She resided in Broadalbin since 1952. She was educated
in Manchester, Vt. area schools.
Mrs. Pettit was employed as a domestic with several families in the
Broadalbin area.
She was married to John Rogers who died in 1952. She married Orrin L.
Pettit on March 30, 1958.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Madeline Shewell of Glens
Falls, and Louise Silver of Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren;
and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be conducted from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Jeffords
Chapel, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin.
Services will be conducted Monday at 9 a.m. at the funeral chapel with
the Rev. Herbert Johnson officiating.
Burial will be at Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester, Vt.
Viola Lowe
Viola Lowe, 88, formerly of Fonda, died Wednesday evening at the Hallmark
Nursing Home, Schenectady where she had been a resident since 1993.
Mrs. Lowe was born Aug. 3, 1908 in Hyndsville, and was a lifelong area
resident.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lowe was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Wellington Lowe; a son, Earl Tillison
of Broadalbin; four daughters, Naomi Tillison of Schenectady, Rosemary
Tillison of Amsterdam, Viola Saterlee of Fonda, and Ula Mac Tillison of
Herkimer; a step-son, Jesse Carouthers of Schenectady; three grandchildren;
and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Robert Tillison and Douglass Lowe.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St.,
Fultonville.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday by the Rev. Robert Smith
at the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Margaret Baker
Margaret Marie Niles Baker, 69 of Fayetteville, died Tuesday at Van
Duyn Extended Care Facility after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, she was a graduate of Russell Sage College. She lived
in Onondaga County since 1964 and most recently in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Baker worked at General Electric Co.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church United, Fayetteville.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Baker; two sisters, Eileen Dibble
of DeWitt and Laureen Givis of Tribes Hill; a brother, Charles Niles of
Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Thursday and were private.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Fayetteville.
Contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society,
Upstate New York Chapter.
