Everett C. Brown, 81, formerly of the New Amsterdam Apartments, died
Thursday at Montgomery Meadows following a long illness.
He was born July 17, 1915 in Galway, the son of Berton and Marie Foss
Brown. He was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Brown was first employed as a carder by the Mohawk Carpet Mills
in Amsterdam, and later as a mail clerk with several New York state governmental
agencies, finally retiring from the Department of State in 1975.
He also served with the Civilian Conservation Corps. in the 1930s.
Mr. Brown was a Methodist and was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Brown
Hillman on Jan. 16, 1996.
He was married on Jan. 30, 1937 to Nellie Bollacker who died on Nov.
22, 1988.
Survivors include a son, Donald B. Brown of Plano, Texas; two daughters,
Sharon M. Bernaski and Joan M. Sajdak, both of Amsterdam; a brother, Arnold
B. Brown of Scotia; three sisters, Shirley Phillips of Clifton Park, Arlene
M. Kinnin and Lois Eigabroadt, both of Enfield, Conn.; six grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be at noon on Tuesday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc.,
171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Crane
officiating.
Contributions may be made in his memory to Montgomery Meadows in care
of the funeral home.
Arlan Smith
Arlan Robert Smith, 50, of Clinton Road, Fort Plain, died at home Friday
after a short illness.
Born in Cooperstown on Sept. 12, 1946, he was the son of Robert J. Smith
and Thelma G. Snyder and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Smith graduated from Springfield Central School and went on to own
and operate a dairy farm. He was also employed by the Richard Page farm
for the last six years.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush and was an
honorary member of the South Minden Volunteer Fire department and an avid
bowler in the area.
Survivors include his wife, Darla Luck Smith, whom he married on June
25, 1994 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush; his parents Robert
and Thelma Smith of Fort Plain; a daughter, Tammy Smith of Fort Plain;
a stepson, Delbert H. Hart, Jr. of Canajoharie; a brother Kenneth A. Smith
of Fort Plain; a sister, Mary E. Hollenbeck of Brooksville, Fla.; two step-grandchildren,
Stephanie and Delbert H. Hart III of Gloversville; two nieces; two nephews;
and cousins.
Calling hours will be Monday at the Gray-Houghtaling and Smith Funeral
Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, from 2 to 4 p.m. and again from 7 to 9
p.m.
The funeral is scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kenneth Dingman
officiating. Burial will be private.
The South Minden Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service at
7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Louis E. Czech
Louis E. Czech, 78, of Harrison Avenue died at the Montgomery Meadow
s in Amsterdam on Friday.
Born in Amsterdam on Aug. 19, 1918 he was the son of Jakob and Katherine
Burza Czech. He was a lifelong area resident and was educated locally.
Mr. Czech was employed by the former Mohasco Carpet Mills in the color
studio. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in Guadalcanal during World
War II and was a chemical warfare instructor.
He was a member of both the Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Stanislaus
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Krysik Czech, whom he married on July
9, 1950; one son, Richard Czech of Amsterdam; one daughter, Patricia Voight
of Saratoga Springs; one sister, Sue Ohab or Altomonte Springs Fla.; one
grandson, Kevin Voigt of Los Angeles, Calif.; three granddaughters, Kimberly
Voigt of Saratoga Springs, Kristen Voigt of Albany and Amanda Czech of
Amsterdam; two nieces, one nephew and cousins.
Calling hours were Saturday evening.
Funeral services will take place at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home,
13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, followed at 11 a.m.
by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. John the Baptist.
Internment will be in the St. John's Cemetery.

John the Baptist or to the St. Stanislaus school.
Arlan Smith

Sandra Lee Galusha
Sandra Lee Galusha, 55, of 13 Center St., St. Johnsville, died May 24
at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Nov. 20, 1942 in Little Falls, the daughter of Gertrude
Smith Sanguine and the late John Sanguine.
Mrs. Galusha was educated in the St. Johnsville schools and lived in
the St. Johnsville area her entire life.
She was married to Robert C. Galusha, who survives her.
Survivors include her mother, Gertrude Sanguine Nourse of Oppenheim;
her husband, Robert of St. Johnsville; her son, Robert J. Galusha and his
friend, Caryn Falcone, both of Syracuse; her brothers, Jack P. Sanguine
and Ronald W. Sanguine both of St. Johnsville, and Michael Sanguine of
Oppenheim; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Smith-Woody and Enea
Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church
in St. Johnsville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by
the Rev. Pascal Ionnotti, pastor.
Burial will be in the Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.

Bruce Kennerknecht
Bruce Holland Kennerknecht, 73, Route 80, Fort Plain, died Saturday
at Stratton VA Hospital in Albany of a short illness.
He was born in New York City on Aug. 16, 1923, and was the son of Ambrose
J. Kennerknecht and Jessie Holland Kennerknecht. He graduated from Owen
D. Young Central Schools in Van Hornesville and worked as a night cleaner
at Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in Canajoharie until 1995, retiring after
23 years of service.
Previously he was a dairy farmer for 17 years in the town of Danube.
He lived in the Fort Plain area for 65 years and he previously lived in
New York City.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II with the
army tank corps and was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Kennerknecht was married
in Fort Plain on Sept. 20, 1952 to Gladys Marilyn Hubert, who survives
him.
Survivors also include: two sons, Steven M. Kennerknecht, of Caroga
Lake, and Jayme S. Kennerknecht, of Fort Plain, 3 daughters, Bonnie L.
Kennerknecht, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Susan L. Kennerknecht, Tampa, Fla.,
S. Michelle Kennerknecht, of Glen, three brothers, Ralph Kennerknecht,
of Merritt Island, Fla,. David Kennerknecht, Fort Meyers, Fla., Paul Kennerknecht,
of Fort Plain, two sisters, Jean Aney of Herkimer, Frances Weldon, Stem,
North Carolina, one granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Kennerknecht, Fort Plain,
one step grandson, Michael Paul Lorette, Fort. Plain, several nieces and
nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sat., June 21 at 10 a.m. at Grey-Houghtaling
and Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort. Plain with Father Kenneth
Swain officiating. Burial be at convenience of the family. There will be

Lillian Johnson
Mrs. Lillian Johnson, 92, of the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health
Care Facility, died Saturday after a long illness.
Born June 10, 1904 in New York City, she was the daughter of Julius
and Hilda Klenedson Swenson. She moved to Canajoharie from Bergenfield,
N.J., many years ago.
She was a member of St. John's/St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie
and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Teaneck, N.J.
She was the widow of Edwin Johnson.
Survivors include a son, Edwin H. Johnson of Fly Creek, Otsego County;
a daughter, Dorothy Laggett of Barrington, Ill.; six grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in George Washington
Memorial Park Cemetery, Paramus, N.J.
There will be no calling hours.

Matthew T. Adamkoski
Matthew T. Adamkoski, 79 of County Route 132, died Sunday at the Edward
L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Born Oct. 22, 1917 in Reading, Pa., he was the son of Frank and Agnes
Marczak Adamkoski. He moved to this area as a young man and attended schools
in Broadalbin. He moved from Broadalbin to Amsterdam in 1948.
For 24 years, he was a layout man for Mohasco Industries and later was
employed for 15 years as a milling machine operator for the General Electric
Co. in Schenectady until retiring in 1983.
Mr. Adamkoski was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member, elder and deacon of the Calvary Reformed Church of
Hagaman, a member of the Hagaman Seniors and a lifetime member of the Hagaman
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He married Mildred Smith Adamkoski on Nov. 10, 1945.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Matthew R. Adamkoski
of Oswego, Mark E. Adamkoski of Broadalbin and Patrick J. Adamkoski of
Amsterdam; a daughter, Sharon A. Frank of Clinton, N.J.; four brothers,
Benjamin Adamkoski of Broadalbin, Walter Adamkoski of Galway, John Adamkoski
of Amsterdam and Victor Adamkoski of Utica; two sisters, Sophie Orlowski
of Broadalbin and Lyla Agusta of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren and several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 am. Wednesday at the Calvary
Reformed Church. Burial will be in Hagaman Cemetery.

The Rev. Lola White
The Rev. Lola A White, 101, of the Sharon Manor in Sharon Springs died
Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born April 28, 1896 in Ames, she was the daughter of the late Willard
J. and Katharina Voglman White.
She attended the former Ames School and graduated from Canajoharie High
School in 1915. She graduated from Oneonta Normal School in 1919 with a
teaching certificate. She attended Boston University School of Religious
Education and graduated in 1927 with a bachelor in religious education.
She continued at Boston University School of Theology and received her
bachelor of sacred theology. She attended the School of Liberal Arts in
Boston and received her bachelor of arts degree.
She was a teacher in several area schools for many years. She was a
minister at the Boston Low Episcopal Church in Newton Center, Mass., for
15 years and was a minister at Churches in Maine, Vermont, and lastly Hyndsville.
She Lived in Ames for many years after retiring and was a member of
the Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church in Ames and was a member
of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
She is survived by four nieces, Marilyn W. Nellis of Palatine Bridge,
Mary W. King of Caroga Lake, Dorothy L. Kackly of Cleveland and Helen J.
Billings of Michigan; her longtime friend, Christine Evenson of Canajoharie.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ames-Sprout Brook
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carter Adriance officiating. Burial
will be in the Ames Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Houghtaling & Smith
Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.

Bruce Kennerknecht

Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albany after a short illness.
Mr. Kennerknecht was born in New York City and graduated from the Owen

until 1995, when he retired after 23 years of service. Before that, Mr.

Gerald Daley
Gerald Daley, 75, of Ann Street, Fultonville, died Saturday at St. Mary's
Hospital in Amsterdam.
Mr. Daley was born and educated in Amsterdam and was a lifelong area
resident.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Europe from 1942
to 1945.
Mr. Daley was employed in the shipping department of the Bojud Knitting
Mills of Amsterdam for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Fultonville and Veterans
of Foreign Wars Post 942 in Fonda.
He married Mildred Pierce Daley on May 23, 1942.
In addition to his wife survivors include seven sons, Gerald Daley of
Canajoharie, Paul D. Daley, Walter D. Daley and Lewis G. Daley, all of
Fultonville, Ronald Daley of Johnstown, James E. Daley of Syracuse and
Danny Daley of Portage, Mich.; six daughters, Geraldine Daley of Syracuse,
Linda J. Kilmartin of Port Crane, Shirley A. Rulison, Cindy Lou Daley and
Debbie Daley, all of Fultonville, and Margaret Pickering of Sprakers; a
sister, Margaret Sardonia of Amsterdam; a brother, Robert Daley Sr. of
Amsterdam; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the United
Methodist Church of Fultonville. Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking
Crematory in Cherry Valley.

Mina Campbell
Mrs. Mina E. Campbell, 81, of 114 Bleecker St., Gloversville, died Sunday
at North Adams Regional Hospital in Massachusetts after a long illness.
Born Dec. 10, 1915, in Northville, she was the daughter of Pearl and
Mattie Scribner VanAvery.
She attended Northville schools and Spencer Business School in Schenectady
and was employed for about 20 years at the former Glove Theater as the
candy concession manager and later worked at Grandoe Glove Co., both in
Gloversville. For several years, she was a keypunch operator with the New
York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany, retiring in 1970.
She was of Protestant faith.
She married Frank C. Campbell in September 1936. He died Jan. 22, 1972.
Survivors include a son, Ronald VanAvery of Miami Beach, Fla, two daughters,
Loretta C. Mabie of Gloversville and Karen I. D'Errico of Schenectady;
five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the North Main
Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven Clunn Officiating.
Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville.

Mary Killoran
Mrs. Mary Killoran, 94, of Benson Road died Sunday at home after a short
illness.
Born in Galway, Ireland, Mrs. Killoran came to this country in 1930
and lived in Benson since 1965, previously residing in the Bronx.
At one time, she was a child's nurse. Later, for 16 years, she was superintendent
of a 25-family apartment building in the Bronx before retiring to Benson.
Mrs. Killoran was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis, the Altar
Rosary Society of St. Pius IV Parish, and the Archconfraternity of Holy
Family at Immaculate Conception Parish in the Bronx before joining St.
Francis of Assisi Parish in Northville.
Her husband, John Joseph Killoran, died in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann DiBernardo of Blauvelt and Philomena
Killoran of New York City; two sons, John and Gerard Killoran of Benson;
five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
St. Francis of Assisi Church, Northville. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven
Cemetery, Hawthorne.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 tonight at the Northville Funeral Home,
401 Bridge St., where a vigil service will be a 7:30.

Roberta Hawkins
Roberta Knight Hawkins, 68, formerly of Route 5S in the Town of Florida
and a two-year resident of the Amsterdam High Rise, died Monday night at
Amsterdam Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born Oct. 19, 1928 in New Bern, N.C., she was the daughter of John and
Georgia (Guion) Willis. She attended schools in New Bern and later New
York City, moving to the Town of Florida in 1967.
She was first employed by the former Nichols department store and later
the former Coleco Industries, retiring from her position in the mail room
of The Recorder in 1989.
She was a former Cub Scout leader, member and honorary member of the
Amsterdam Parent-Teacher Association, and an assistant with the Amsterdam
High School wrestling team.
Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Family Bible Church in Amsterdam.
She married her first husband, Willie Knight, in 1951, who died many
years ago. On Feb. 15, 1961, she married LeRoy Hawkins, who died March
3, 1977.
Survivors include four sons, Gregory Knight of New Bern, Dudley Knight
of Dallas, LeRoy Cecil Hawkins Jr. of Amsterdam and Zachary Hawkins of
Rochester; three stepdaughters, Emma Ellington of Pompano Beach, Fla.,
Catherine Mitchell of Utica, and Annie Kate King of Gainesville, Fla; a
brother, George Guion of New Bern; seven grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Jerry Gifford officiating.

Raymond Watson
Mr. Raymond S. "Papa" Watson, 73, of Montgomery Street, Canajoharie,
died Sunday after a long illness.
Born Feb. 19, 1924 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Francis Watson and
Ellen Pryor.
He earned his masters degree in education from Hofstra University on
Long Island and was a math teacher at the Syosset School District on Long
Island for 20 years retiring in 1983. He was also a wood cutter at Handmade
Memories in Canajoharie.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Fort Plain.
He married Dolores "Mickie" Moretti on May 2, 1969.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, John R Watson of
Canajoharie and Albany, and Butch DeSimone of Bethpage; two daughters,
Rosellen Watson of Canajoharie and Donna Moore of Randall; one grandson,
two nieces and three nephews.
A prayer service will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the Houghtaling
& Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Fort Plain,
with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating. The burial will be private.

Kenneth R. Scott
Kenneth R. Scott, 82, of Ridge Road, died May 18 at Ellis Hospital,
Schenectady after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, Mr. Scott lived there and in Hagaman as a child.
For a time, he resided in Saxonville, Mass., before moving to Schenectady
in the late 1930s.
He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Northeastern University.
For more than 40 years, Mr. Scott was a designer draftsman for GE and
the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, retiring in 1980.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scotia.
His wife, Ruth Barker Scott, died in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith A. Stockman of Scotia; a son, Jeffrey
L. Scott of Hooksett, N.H.; a brother, Walter E. Scott Jr. of Incline Village,
Nev.; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Scott made an anatomical gift to Albany Medical College.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist
Church of Scotia.
There will be no calling hours.

Mary Thum
Mrs. Mary B. Thum, 89, of West Madison Avenue, Johnstown, died Saturday
at the Wells House Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Thum lived in Fulton County for the last
85 years.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Church and a former member of the
Johnstown Pocahontas.
She married Clyde Thum in 1929. He died in 1963.
Survivors include a daughter, Agnes Howell of District Heights, Md.;
two sons, Charles Thum of Holland, Erie County, and James Thum of Marlton,
N.J.; two sisters, Lillian Pollak of Johnstown and Millie Wilson of Broadalbin;
a brother, James Beatty of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at

Helen Anschutz
Mrs. Helen C. Anschutz, 83 of Jockey Street, Charlton, died Thursday
at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness.
Born in Springfield, Mass., Mrs. Anschutz graduated from Commerce High
School in Springfield and Bay Path College in Long Meadow, Mass.
She was a bookkeeper for the Federal Land Bank in Springfield and later
for several social and civic groups, including the Burnt Hills Methodist
Church and the Burnt Hills Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Anschutz lived in Woronoko, Mass., for 10 years before moving to
Charlton, where she resided with her son for the last 17 years.
She was a member of the Burnt Hills United Methodist Church and the
Burnt Hills Seniors. A longtime member of the Springfield Turnverein Club,
she also held membership while in the Burnt Hills-Balston Lake area.
She married E. Arthur Anschutz on Nov. 1, 1947. He died in 1975.
Survivors include a son, Robert A. Anschutz of Charlton, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Paucatuck
Cemetery, West Springfield, Mass.
