Brian J. Gardiner, 37, of Batter Street, died Friday from a gunshot wound. The circumstances are under investigation.

He was born in Schenectady, the son of Lawrence and Norma Schmitz Gardiner of Princetown. He entered the School for the Deaf in Rome in 1967 and graduated in 1979. While in school, he was a noted athlete and was named most valuable player in track and field. He was honored in Who's Who in Sports for the Deaf in the publication The Deaf American.

He was also a former member of the Mariaville Water Ski Team.

He was a graduate of the New Hampshire Technical College, earning a degree in computerized machine technology.

He was married to Christina Coleman Gardiner.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include a son, Jonathan Gardiner; a daughter, Amanda Gardiner; and a brother, Kurt Gardiner of Princetown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Princetown Road, Rotterdam. Burial was private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardiner Children Trust Fund in care of Cohoes Savings Bank, Price Chopper Plaza, Rotterdam.

Mae Casey
May 28, 1997

Mrs. Mae Noonan Casey, 89, of the Kingsway Arms Nursing Home and formerly of Daisy Lane, Schenectady, died Wednesday after a long illness.

Born in Gloversville, she was a graduate of Oneida Normal School and Albany State College with a degree in teaching. She also attended The College of St. Rose.

She was a teacher at the Howe School, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School and St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam before her retirement.

Mrs. Casey was a member of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church.

She was married to James W. Casey, who died in 1963.

Survivors include a niece, Nana Noonan of Scottsdale, Ariz.

A memorial Mass will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.

There are no calling hours.

Martin Verklier
May 28, 1997

Martin Verklier, 46, of Midline Road, Broadalbin, died Wednesday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

Born April 6, 1951 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Ian and Beverly Brown Verklier of Broadalbin. He was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and Hudson Valley Community College. He was a lifelong area resident.

He was proprietor of Marty's Repair on Midline Road.

Mr. Verklier was involved with the Boys Scouts of America and was also a coach in the Adirondack Girls Softball League.

He married Susan Foose Verklier on Aug. 1, 1992.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include a son, Michael I. Verklier of Perry, Fla.; a daughter, Jodi E. Verklier of Shepherd Air Force Base in Texas; four sisters, Deborah Alvarez, Beth La Tour and Joy Sherman, all of Amsterdam, and Kelley Taylor of Albany; two aunts, Katherine Murphy of Amsterdam and Louise Sievers of Lacona; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Paul R. Moyer officiating. Cremation will be in Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Warren Little
May 27, 1997

Warren C. Little, 77, of Saratoga Road, Scotia, died Tuesday at home after a long illness.

Born in Newburgh, he lived most of his life in the Schenectady area.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was a supervisor in the advertising and sales promotion department at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1980 after 41 years with the company.

He was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church.

Mr. Little was a member and past commander of the Hudson-Mohawk Chapter of the U.S. Power Squadron.

He married Blanche "Betty" Mott Little on Aug. 30, 1941.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Susan Gay Eggleston of Charlton and Pamela Springstead of Sharon Springs; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the White Funeral Home, 264 N. Ballston Ave., Scotia.

Burial will be private.

May 27, 1997

Mrs. Reeta K. Robertson, 86, of Route 20, Sloansville, died Tuesday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill after a brief illness.

Born in Esperance, she was educated in the Esperance one-room schoolhouse and graduated from Schoharie High School. She lived in the Sloansville area for the past 30 years.

She was a clerical worker for the state Department of Labor in Albany for 10 years before retiring. Many years ago, she was a physician's assistant in Scotia.

She was a member of the Sloansville Dizzy Dozen.

She married James L. Robertson on Aug. 17, 1940. He died in 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Lee R. Robertson of Esperance and Todd Robertson of Kingston, Wash.; a daughter, Lynne Robertson Hartje of Pattersonville; a brother, Kenneth Creede of Esperance; a sister, Emily Welch of Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Esperance Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Esperance Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Martha Boardman

Mrs. Martha T. Boardman, 100, of Northeast Avenue, Johnstown, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.

Born in Newburgh, she moved to Johnstown in 1923.

She began teaching in 1915 and later attended the Oneonta Teachers College, graduating in 1921. She then taught first grade at the Warren Street School, and in 1945 became principal of the East State Street School. She retired in 1967.

She married Albert Yale Boardman in 1923. He died in 1984.

Survivors include two nieces, Terry Portes of Peekskill and June Meier of Hyde Park.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in Schenevus Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Hubert Dietch
May 26, 1997

Hubert "Sarge" Dietch, 78, of Algonquin Drive, Wells, died Monday at Columbia Lake Hospital in Bradenton, Fla., after a long illness.

Born in Fairlawn, N.J., he was a World War II and Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He lived in Wells since 1983.

He was a bus driver and head custodian at the Poland Central School District before retiring.

Mr. Dietch was a charter member of the Morehouse Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as president, secretary, treasurer and board member.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 1157, Civil Service Employees Association and the Disabled American Veterans.

He married Shirley Remonda Dietch on Oct. 17, 1994. She died in 1981.

Survivors include a son, David M. Dietch of Baldwinsville; two daughters, Elaine Scantlebury of Wells and Donna Taylor of Florida; a brother, Ralph Dietch of Bradenton, Fla.; five grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville. Burial will be in Morehouse Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

C. Arlington Borst
May 28, 1997

C. Arlington Borst, 79, of Hammerston Village, died Wednesday at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.

Born in Seward, he lived most of his life in Carlisle. He was a graduate of Cobleskill High School.

He was a self-employed dairy farmer, retiring in 1973, and he later worked for more than three years at Burton Enterprises.

He married Laura Kimmey Borst in 1939. She died in 1996.

Survivors include three daughters, Martha Becker of Carlisle, Linda and Janet Lawton, both of Schoharie; two sons, William Borst of Burlington, N.C. and John Borst of Irasburg, Vt.; four sisters, Beatrice Winnie of Cobleskill, Irene Snyder of Delanson, Marcia Dibble of Johnstown and Mary Campbell of Florida; two brothers, Stanley Borst of Sharon Springs and Robert Borst of Florida; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Robert A. Guffin Funeral Home, 1 Chapel St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon.

Eleanor Marcellus
May 28, 1997

Mrs. Eleanor L. Marcellus, 76, of Route 122, Gloversville, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.

Born in Amsterdam, she was a graduate of Northville High School.

She was a glove worker for many years, and subsequently worked at the Fulton County Infirmary and the Fulton County Nursing Service, retiring in 1985.

Mrs. Marcellus was a member of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Joseph Marcellus, died in 1966.

Survivors include two sons, David Marcellus of Edinburg and Joel Marcellus of Stillwater; a daughter, Noranne Marcellus of Gloversville, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Mrs. MArilyn J. Hart, 69, of Beech Street, Mayfield, died Thursday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.

Born in Mayfield, she was a graduate of Mayfield High School and Albany Business College.

She was a self-employed bookkeeper.

Mrs. Hart was a member of Mayfield Presbyterian Church.

She was also a member of the Mayfield Serviceman's Auxiliary.

She married Milt Hart on July 16, 1955.

Survivors include a son, Phlan Hart of Mayfield; a daughter, Kimberly McClary of Mayfield, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.
