Troy - William E. Manning, 98, of Albert Street, died Sunday at Van Rensselaer
Manor North Greenbush, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Whalen Manning and
husband of the late Alice H. Severance Manning who died in April. He had resided
in the Troy area all his life and was educated at Troy schools.
Mr. Manning was a printer by trade and worked in the mail order department and
shipping and receiving, for Montgomery Ward in Menands.
He was a member of the Albia Lodge of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows
until it disbanded and was a member of the East Side Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his daughter Doris E. Vickers of Troy and a grandson Eric E.
Vickers of Troy.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home,
Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy and at 10:30am from Sacred Heart
Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 9-10am prior to
the service.
Interment Elmwood Hill Cemetery in Troy.

Alice H. Manning, 98
Troy - Alice H. Sevenance Manning, 98, of Albert Street, died Thursday at Van
Rensselaer Manor North Greenbush, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late George A. and Elizabeth Egleston
Severance and wife of William E. Manning. She had resided in the Troy area all her
life and was educated at Troy schools and Troy Business College.
Mrs. Manning was employed at Merideth Advertising in Troy as a stenographer
many years ago and was a receptionist at the Troy YWCA .
She was a member of the Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church in Troy, a
Sunday school teacher at the church, a past president of Troy Public School 15 PTA
and a member of the East Side Senior Citizens.
Survivors in addition to her husband include her daughter Doris E. Vickers of Troy;
a grandson Eric E. Vickers of Troy and a sister Ruth E. Pfeiffer of Troy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service which will be held
Saturday May 12, 2001at 11am at Pawling Avenue United Methodist Church 520
Pawling Avenue Troy with Rev. Peter Kelly, Pastor of the Pawling Avenue United
Methodist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Eva 'Jean' Wilder, 75
Poestenkill - Eva R. 'Jean' Wilder, 75, of James Street, died suddenly Saturday at
Samaritan Hospital Troy.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Charles and Anna Shackett Doin and
wife of the late Thomas E. Wilder. She had resided in Poestenkill since 1959.
Mrs. Wilder was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill and a former
member of the choir and an avid bingo player.
Survivors include two daughters Jude Wilder-Roberts and husband Jack of East
Greenbush and Georgann Wilder of Poestenkill; two grandsons Donald T.
Numbers of Honolulu and Darrin Numbers of Oak Grove, KY; two
great-grandchildren lights of her life Kathy Ann Numbers of Pittstown and Damian
Numbers of Troy; a special part of her family Sarah Brock; four sisters Ann E.
Locke of Indian Lake, Marie Lozo of Troy, Caroline Hunt of Troy and Norma Burt
of Grafton and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 9:00am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral
Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake and at 9:30am from St. Jude the
Apostle Church Wynantskill where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.

Chris W. Wheland, 77
Lansingburgh - Chris W. Wheland, 77, of Fifth Avenue, died Tuesday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Charles W. and Nellie Babcock Wheland and husband of Julia Aird Wheland. He had resided in the Troy area all his life and was a 1941 graduate of Lansingburgh High School.
Mr. Wheland was a self employed General Contractor in the area since 1945.
He was a very active member of the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh serving as Trustee, Chairman of Finance, member of the Administrative Council, President and Treasurer of the Mens Club, Advisor to the Group House Chairman and Church Property, Senior Deacon and Head Usher. He also attended the Local Church Council Conference as Lay Leader. Mr. Wheland was a Charter Member of Lansingburgh Kiwanis Club, a member of the local Scouting Committee, served as Chairman of Local Pack No. 19 and Scout Troop Committeeman.
Mr. Wheland was also very active in Masonic circles. He was Master and Secretary, twice, of the Jerusalem Masonic Lodge 355 in Lansingburgh. He served on many lodge committees, was District Chairman of the Brotherhood fund, President of the Lansingburgh Masonic Temple Association, was a member of Phoenix Chapter No. 133, R.A.M. Bloss Council No. 14 and Iran Grotto. He was a 32 Degree Mason, and a member of Troy Delta Bodies, the Albany Consistory, the Oriental Shrine, Troy Shrine Club, Troy Shrine Patrol, and Captain of the Guard of the Rose Crois Troy Delta Degree Team, also served as worthy Patron in the Court of the Amaranth. In 1990, he was honored to be the Grand Representative of Turkey to the Grand Lodge of the State of New York. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War 2 serving 17 months in the European theatre and received 2 battle stars.
Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons John C. Wheland and wife Lynn of Clifton Park and Glenn C. Wheland and wife Catherine of Troy; a brother Richard A. Wheland and wife Ruth A. of Troy; five grandchildren Jennifer Lynn Wettergren and husband Thomas of RI, Chris (Bud) Wheland of Troy, Lori Lybert and husband John of Cambridge, Kristi Drinkwater and husband Scott of Malta and Lindsay Morris and husband Seth of Charleston, SC; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Charles W. Wheland Jr.

Elaine G. Tashjian, 76
Troy - Elaine Guth Tashjian, 76, of Thompson Street, died Thursday at Samaritan
Hospital Troy after a long illness.
Born in Lake City, Iowa she was daughter of the late Henry and Angeline Kuhne
Guth and wife of Joseph J. Tashjian Sr. for 47 years. She had resided in Iowa for 3
years, raised in the Wilsall, Montana area and resided in California until coming to
Troy in 1953 and was a 1947 graduate of Montana State University receiving her
degree in physical education.
Mrs. Tashjian was employed as a physical education teacher in California in the
1950's and was a homemaker for many years.
She was a member of the Troy School Board of Education, a South End Day Camp
Director, a Cub Scout Leader and a member and Elder of Woodside Presbyterian
Church in Troy and a member of the board of Missions of the Albany Presbytery.
Survivors in additon th her husband include three sons Joseph J. Tashjian Jr. DVM
and wife Karen of Springville, NY, Henry 'Hank' G. Tashjian and wife Kim of
Wilsall, MT, retired Undersheriff for Park County, Montana and Paul J. Tashjian
and wife Patti of Clifton Park ,a computer systems analyst; a sister Chloris
Zimmerman of Wilsall, MT; seven grandchildren Gordon, Henry, Hans and Eva
Tashjian, Tawnya Greenfield and Carly and Benjamin Tashjian and several nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Evelyn Massman.
Funeral service will be held Sunday at 3:00pm from Woodside Presbyterian
Church Mill and Erie Streets Troy with Rev. Dr. James C. Mosher, Pastor,
officiating.
Relatives and friends may call at the church Sunday from 2-3pm prior to the

Brunswick - Catherine E. 'Bette' Sullivan, 75, of Fox Hollow Road, died
Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital Troy, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Frank J. and Kitty Sheedy Weber and
wife of Dr. Joseph M. Sullivan. She had resided in Troy all her life and was a
graduate of Troy High School.
Mrs. Sullivan was credit manager at the Peerless Company in Troy many years ago.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the Altar Rosary
Society, the Van Rensselaer Garden Club, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and the
Country Club of Troy. She was an avid bridge and tennis player and enjoyed
skiing.
Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter Catherine E. 'Kittie' Ryan
and husband Michael T. of Bluebell, PA; two sons Kevin J. Sullivan of Latham and
Michael J. Sullivan and wife Sharon of Friendswood, TX; a sister Jean W. Lindsay
of Palo Verdes, CA and seven grandchildren William Vincent Ryan, Caitlin S.
Ryan, Brienne S. Ryan, Joseph Michael Sullivan and Christopher, Jessica and
Shelley Rudy. She was predeceased by a sister Ann Marie O'Brien.

Robert J. Ruffinen, 75
North Greenbush - Robert J. Ruffinen, 75, of Sandra Drive, died peacefully Monday
at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Emil and Frances Hart Ruffinen and beloved
husband of Elsa M. Hilzinger Ruffinen. He was a lifelong resident of North
Greenbush and was educated at Troy schools.
Mr. Ruffinen was a self employed contractor and land developer in the area for
some 45 years retiring in 1994. He is responsible for one of the largest
subdivisions in the town of North Greenbush called Swiss Acres.
He was a member of the Germania Hall Association, Swiss Society, a
Communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church in North Greenbush and a
member and president of the former Troy Industrial Club. He was an Army
veteran of World War II stationed in Japan and the Philippines.
Survivors in addition to his wife include three beloved daughters Evelyn E. Kohler
and husband and good friend William of North Greenbush, Linda E. Billiel and
husband David of Greenfield, MA and Donna M. Lott and husband Charles of
North Greenbush; a beloved son Ralph R. Ruffinen and wife Lori of North
Greenbush; a sister Marion Bonesteel of Wynantskill; two brothers Leo Ruffinen
of Wynantskill and Ronald Ruffinen of North Greenbush and 14 grandchildren
Robert, David, Erik, Kerri and Adam Kohler, Jakob and Robert Ruffinen, Kristin
Shaw and Tiana, Gabriella, Chaz, Elijah, Mariah and Selena Lott. Also survived
by several nieces and nephews; his wife's family from Willstaett, Germany and the
Zen-Ruffinen family of Brig, Switzerland and a beloved friend Roger Diehl and
many other friends.
