Troy - Willard Arthur Brown, 78, of Pond Lane, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late Percy Willard and Anna Bell Kirchner Brown and husband of Beverly Miller Brown and the late Jessie Carr Brown. He had resided in Troy all his life and was a graduate of Troy High School and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy.
Mr. Brown was employed at General Electric prior to working at New York Telephone Company for 38 years retiring in 1982 as a special service consultant for the central area of New York State. His career spanned the manual telephone system step system, crossbar up to the present electronic telephone system.
During World War II, he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol of Troy, then a branch of the Army. He was an active member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Troy now Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills and served as Trustee for 13 years, Chairman of the music committee and was very active on the Memorial Church building committee.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter Pamela Anne Patch and husband David of Mission Viejo, CA; a brother Robert W. Brown and wife Nancy of Poestenkill; two granddaughters Kimberly Anne and Megan Elizabeth Patch both of Mission Viejo, CA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10:30AM from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy with Rev. David Martin, Pastor of the Hope United Methodist Church and Rev. John G. Rhinesmith, Pastor Emeritus of Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4-8pm. Interment Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Brown to the Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund 566 Brunswick Road Troy, NY 12180.
June E. Clothier Baxter, 76
Troy - June E. Clothier Baxter, 76, of Troy, died Monday at Samaritan Hospital Troy after a brief illness.
Born in Corinth, she was wife of the late Milton Baxter. She had resided in Corinth for 25 years and in the Troy area since 1951.
Mrs. Baxter was a custodian for the Troy Public School District for 27 years retiring 7 years ago.
She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Eagle Mills.
Survivors include two daughters Alice Allen of Troy and Rose Marie Shulusky of Waterford; five sons Gregory Hogle of Huntsville, TX, Harry Hogle of Longview, TX, William Eggleston of Wynantskill, Dexter Eggleston of Arizona and Charles Finkle of Colorado Springs, CO; 10 grandchildren Jason Scheilding and Bruce, Crystal and Melissa Allen and Derek, Carl and Kyle Eggleston and Jason, William and Diana Finkle; 5 great grandchildren Arron Scheilding, BriAnnah Lashway and Brittany, Tiffany and Tyler Eggleston and 13 step great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service which will be held Tuesday evening at 7pm at the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy with Rev. David Martin, Pastor of the Hope United Methodist Church, officiating.
John J. 'Jack' Connair, 67
Troy - John J. 'Jack' Connair, 67, of McClelland Avenue, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital Troy, after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, he was son of the late John J. Connair Sr. and Jane Cavanaugh Connair. He was raised in Watervliet, resided in Troy for the past 60 years and attended LaSalle Institute in North Greenbush.
Mr. Connair was employed at the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany for 11 years retiring in 1989 due to disability. Prior to that he was a foreman at Tek Hughes in Watervliet.
He was a former Commander of CRAB Veteran's Of Foreign War Post in Troy, a life long member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernian's in South Troy and an Army veteran of Korean Conflict serving in Korea.
Survivors include a brother Joseph S. Connair and wife Ann Marie of Troy; two sisters Jane P. Connair of Troy and Kathy Hein and husband Clifford of Troy and several cousins. He was the honorary grandfather of Amy, Kevin and Carly Sinnott of Clifton Park.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenue Troy with Rev. Gary Merchure, Pastor of St. Williams Church in Troy, officiating. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8pm. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery in Troy.
Irene H. Ferguson Bailey, 99
East Greenbush - Irene H. Ferguson Bailey, 99, of Troy Road and formerly of Lansingburgh, died Saturday at Rosewood Gardens after a brief illness.
Born in Sand Lake, she was daughter the late Arthur and Dorothy Smauder Ferguson and wife of the late Harry Bailey. She had resided 75 years on Seventh Avenue in Lansingburgh and moved to Rosewood Gardens in September of 2001. She had attended Troy High School.
Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and as a young lady she worked at Faith Mill in Averill Park.
She was a very active member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Lansingburgh for many years. Irene was community minded and generous in spirit and her time, working on many community projects.
Survivors include three nieces, Doris A. Hogle of West Sand Lake, Jean Hendy of Cambridge, MA and Marilyn Smith of Rhinebeck; two nephews, William Ferguson of Queensbury and John Nielsen of Troy; a grand niece, Jean Manon of Brooklyn; a grand nephew, Thomas Smith of Toronto; two cousins, Katharyn Weatherwax and Dorothy Markussen both of West Sand Lake and a great grand niece and nephew. She was predeceased by three sisters, Myra F. Hogle, Edna Flynn and Violet Johnston and three brothers, Norman Ferguson, Alwyn 'Doc' Ferguson and Earl Ferguson.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00am from the DeGraaf-Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 4392 Route 150 West Sand Lake with Rev. Richard A. Scheu, Pastor of the Prince of Peace Lutheran, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment Elmwood Cemetery in West Sand Lake.

Jean Reid Acker, 86
Troy - Jean Reid Acker, 86, of Burdett Avenue, died Saturday at the Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center Troy, after a long illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late Dr. John H. and Emily Niven Reid and wife of the late Albert A. Acker. She had resided in Troy and Averill Park and at 55 upon marrying Albert moved to Valley Falls. She had resided in the Eddy for the past 7 years and was educated at Miss Thiessen's School in Troy, Emma Willard School , Smith College where she earned her Bachelors degree and the State University of New York at Albany where she received her Masters degree.
Mrs. Acker was employed by John L. Thompson in Troy for several years and later by the New York State Department of Commerce at the State Library for 20 years retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Troy Women's Club, Ilium Literary Club, Business and Professional Women, Troy Chromatic Concerts, Valley Falls Methodist Church and Church of the Covenant in Averill Park.
Survivors include her sister Eleanor Reid of Troy; a sister-in-law Kathleen Reid of Troy; her nieces and nephews Mary Ellen Wollner and husband John of Baltimore, John H. Reid and Sandra of Laramie, WY, Dr. William M. Reid and wife Kathleen of Salisbury, MD, Kathleen Labbate and husband William of Old Forge, Paul E. Reid and wife Rita of Ballston Spa, Robert F. Reid and wife Kathleen of Delmar and Martin T. Reid and wife Caitlin of Sand Lake and 10 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers Dr. John H. Reid Jr. and Dr. Robert F. Reid.

Zevart Guleserian Alajajian, 63
GLENMONT - Zevart Guleserian Alajajian, 63, of Winne Place, died Friday at Villa Mary Immaculate Albany, after a long illness.
Born in Aleppo, Syria she was daughter of the late Abraham and Azniv Boyajian Guleserian. She came to the United States to Watervliet in 1971 and resided in Watervliet and Troy until 1978 then moving to Pasadena, California where she resided until September of this year.
Mrs. Alajajian was a homemaker.
She was a very religious women. She was active in the church choir, taught Sunday school and attended Bible study twice a week.
Survivors include a daughter Talin Markarian and husband Alen of Troy; two sisters Violet Karian and husband Bedros of Glenmont and Nectar Derian and husband Hagop of Glenmont; a brother Sarkis Guleserian and wife Heidi of Loudonville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30am from the Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. corner of Pawling at Maple Avenues in Troy and at 11:00am from St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet with Rev. Shayne LaVoie
Berlin - On Aug. 12, 2007, at approximately 8 pm our beloved son, brother, grandson, friend and partner, Shayne LaVoie, aged 31, passed from a motorcycle accident on Plank Road. He was a 1994 graduate of Berlin Jr/Sr. High School, of Hudson Valley Community College in 1996 and of the University of Vermont in 1998. Shayne is the son of Patricia and her husband Michael Coughtry of West Sand Lake, NY, and Vernon and his wife Deanna LaVoie of Cropseyville, NY. Shayne is the brother of Bobbi and her husband Michael DeFilippis of Pittstown, NY, Lester and Ashley Dennison LaVoie of Clermont, FL, Lori Whitman of Clermont, FL, and Yvonne Coughtry of West Sand Lake. Sharon Whaley is his friend and companion, and they have been together for the past four years. Shayne is the maternal grandson of Gladys Brundige of Johnsonville, NY. Shayne is pre-deceased by his maternal grandfather, Richard Brundige, and his paternal grandparents, Lester and Leola LaVoie. Shayne is the proud uncle of three nephews, Tyler J. Shaw, Eric M. DeFilippis and Colton D. LaVoie, and one niece, Dallas E. Campos. His Beloved Godparents are Sister Kennan and Michael Crandall. Shayne has many aunts, uncles and cousins who will greatly miss him. Shayne was always surrounded by many friends and family who will greatly miss him and cherish their fond memories for eternity. Shayne was full of life and has a great love for music, motorcycle riding, outdoors, soccer, family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Death and Burial was celebrated by Rev. Kenneth Gregory on Thursday morning at 10 am in the St. John Francis Regis Roman Catholic Church in Grafton. Interment followed in the 56 Road Cemetery. Calling hours were held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm at the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY, when relatives and friends were invited. Donations may be made to the Taconic Valley Soccer Club in memory of Shayne L. LaVoie.
