Allen E. Bills, 81
AUSTIN, Texas — Allen E. "Toby" Bills, 81, a former resident of East Nassau and Raquette Lake died Monday.
Mr. Bills was a resident of Austin for 10 years.
He served on the faculty at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester for seven years and at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy for 24 years.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela W. Bills; two daughters, Pamela A. Bills of Scotia and Cynthia B. Myers of Austin; two sons, Allan E. "Toby" Bills II and William E. Bills, both of Austin; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Harrell Funeral Home in Austin.
Herbert J. Chapman, 71
TROY — Herbert J. Chapman Jr., 71, of Seventh Avenue, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Charlotte Ripple Chapman Sr. and husband of Mary E. Purcell Chapman.
Mr. Chapman was educated in Troy schools.
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, receiving the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific, the Victory and the Good Conduct ribbons.
Mr. Chapman worked at the Knolls Atomic Lab in West Milton and Schenectady for 31 years. He retired in 1984 as a millwright. Earlier, he worked at Behr Manning in Watervliet for seven years.
He was a former volunteer at the Lansingburgh Boys Club and a former member of the Speigletown Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh.
Survivors, besides his wife, include a son, Herbert J. Chapman III of Colonie; five daughters, Ann Mutch, Rosemary Davignon and Suzanne Neary, all of Lansingburgh, Joan Zayacheck of Wynantskill and Kathleen Wisoff of Niskayuna; a sister, Marion G. Mahar of Lansingburgh; a brother, William E. Chapman of Los Angeles, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home Inc., 115th Street and Fourth Avenue, Lansingburgh, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Watervliet.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

John Costa, 71
BALLSTON SPA — John Costa, 71, of Raymond Road, died Thursday at the Saratoga Hospital Nursing Home.
Born in Capaci, Italy, he came to the Troy area in 1950 before moving to Ballston Spa.
Mr. Costa worked at the Norton Co. in Watervliet from 1960 to 1985. He also trained standard bred horses from 1971 to 995 and belonged to the United States Trotters Association.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Rose Mosca Costa; a son, Anthony Costa of Ballston Spa; a daughter, Enza Valente of Speigletown; a brother, Frank Costa of Long Island; a sister, Enza Marasa of Palermo, Italy, and a grandson.
The funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Clement's Church in Saratoga Springs. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.

Nectar Demirjian, 95
WATERVLIET — Nectar Demirjian, 95, formerly of 19th Street and Sixth Avenue, died Feb. 22 at the Hallmark Nursing Centre in Troy.
Born in Istanbul, Turkey, she was a resident of Watervliet for over 60 years.
She also was a resident of St. Mary's Woodland Village and for the last three years had been a resident of the Hallmark Nursing Center.
Mrs. Demirjian was a sales clerk for a furrier in downtown Schenectady for many years before retiring.
Survivors include a nephew, Dr. Joseph F. Berberian of Elmira and a her friend, Pat Berberian of Watervliet.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Holy Cross Armenian Apostolic Church in Troy with Rev. Katchig Megerdician officiating.
Arrangements are by Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet.
Sr. Imelda de St. Joseph
LATHAM — Sister Imelda de St. Joseph, 95, died Wednesday at Our Lady of Hope Residence.
Born and raised in Boston, Mass., she was daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen Brosnan O'Connor. She was born Dora Veronica O'Connor.
She professed her first vows June 19, 1923 in Queens and her perpetual vows Nov. 21, 1930 at the Motherhouse of the Little Sisters of the Poor in LaTour, France.
After being stationed in France and Belgium for 10 years, she then returned to the United States. She served in Brooklyn and Baltimore and as mother superior successively from 1934 to 1944.
Sister Imelda came to Troy in 1944, where she served until the opening of Our Lady of Hope Residence in Latham in 1976.
Among her various duties was the organization of the first card party (now in its 21st year), Our Lady of Hope Auxiliary, and the co-ordination of volunteers.
Her enthusiasm, support and encouragement of these programs made it possible to fulfill many of the needs of the home for the elderly.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews in Boston.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Hope Chapel, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy.
Calling hours are from 2 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Hope Residence.

Hazel L. Dibble, 41
COHOES — Hazel L. Wilson Stocklas Dibble, 41 of Garner Street, died Wednesday at her residence after a brief illness.
Born in Keene Valley, she was daughter of Cora Weed Wilson of Cohoes and the late Eugene Wilson. She was wife of William "Tex" Dibble and widow of John Stocklas.
She was a resident of the Capital District most of her life.
Mrs. Dibble was executive secretary for Van Patten Enterprises (Kirby of Latham) for over three years.
Survivors include two daughters, Annette M. Bergerson of Buffalo and Crystal Stocklas of Troy; three sons, Harold Bechore, John and Thomas Stocklas, both of Troy; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Burial will be in the Capital City Cemetery.

Amelia Duncan, 75
COHOES — Amelia Sheffer Duncan, 75, of Remsen Street and formerly of Gurley Avenue in Troy, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.
Born in Troy, she was daughter of the late William and Helen Cox Sheffer and widow of Joseph Duncan.
She had resided in Troy most of her life and in Cohoes for the past year.
She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Lansingburgh and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Mrs. Duncan was a secretary for the state Department of Labor in Albany for 20 years, retiring 14 years ago.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and the United Church of Cohoes.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Cassy Emmarie Duncan, Joseph Blake Duncan and Jeffrey Robert Duncan, all of Rexford.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy, with Revs. Nick and Terry Tebordo, co-pastors of the United Church of Cohoes, officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

Marion D. Manville, 91
DEFREESTVILLE — Marion D. Manville, 91, of Thompson Court, died Thursday at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.
Born in McKownville, she was daughter of the late John B. and Lilly Abrams Manville.
She had resided most of her life in Defreestville. Her family owned the farm now occupied by the Rensselaer Technology Park.
A graduate of Troy High School, Miss Manville was a bookkeeper for Sliter's Dairy and Quality Center for many years.
She was the oldest active member of Blooming Grove Reformed Church in Defreestville and formerly was its organist for 30 years.
Survivors include a brother, Foster Manville of Troy.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Blooming Grove Reformed Church. Burial will be in Bloomingrove Rural Cemetery in Defreestville.
There will be no calling hours.

Conseglia Porto, 79
TROY — Conseglia Nolletti Porto, 79, of Troy, died Wednesday at her residence.
Born in Mamaroneck, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Serafina Croli Nolletti and widow of George Porto.
Mrs. Porto lived in Mamaroneck most of her life and in Troy for the past 12 years.
Mrs. Porto was an operator-manager with New York Telephone Co.
She was a member of St. Vito's Church in Mamaroneck and the telephone company's Daughters of the Pioneers.
Survivors include two sons, George Porto Jr. of Troy and Stephen Porto of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Concelia Bowman of Missoula, Mont., and Carol Porto of Portland, Ore.; three brothers, James Nolletti of Mamaroneck, Raymond Nolletti of Harrison and Leonard Nolletti of Bridgehampton; Lucy Mangine and Mary Caprara, both of Port Chester and Elizabeth Poccia of Webster; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vito's Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home in Mamaroneck.
Edith M. Smart, 95
CLIFTON PARK — Edith Mary LaBossiere Smart, 95, died Wednesday at the Schuyler Ridge Residency Home.
Born in Green Island, she was daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth Barnum LaBossiere and was widow of Adelbert Smart.
Mrs. Smart was a sewing machine operator at Cluett Peabody & Co. in Troy for over 20 years, retiring in 1967.
Survivors include three daughters, Lois Del Sette of Saratoga Springs, Marlene Smith of Brunswick and Sondran Neddo of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smart donated her remains to the Anatomical Gift Program at Albany Medical College.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Church of Later Day Saint's Stake Center in Loudonville.
A calling hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the center.
