Thomas J. Sheeran, 66
WYNANTSKILL — Thomas J. Sheeran, Sr., 66, of Wynantskill, died Wednesday after a brief illness.
Born and educated in Troy, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Anna J. Pillsworth Sheeran and husband of Madelyn Ciarlone Sheeran.
Mr. Sheeran graduated in 1948 from Catholic Central High School.
After serving in the Navy, he graduated from Siena College and the state University at Albany.
Mr. Sheeran was a teacher in the Mohanesen School District.
He also served as a junior-senior high school principal in the Mount Markhan Central School District in West Winfield and as school superintendent in the Jefferson and St. Lawrence county school systems.
He returned to the Capital District in 1983 after retiring from school administration and was a union negotiator for AFSCME Council 66, retiring in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Jude's Church in Wynantskill.
Survivors, besides his wife include three sons, Thomas J. Sheeran, Jr. of Troy, Anthony Sheeran of Albany and John Sheeran of Ballston Spa; two daughters, Linda Loury of Poestenkill and JoAnne Fletcher of Peterborough, N.H.; three brothers, Joseph Sheeran and Vincent Sheeran, both of Troy, and Robert Sheeran of Sayville; and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church.
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the John H. Clinton Funeral Home, Washington Park and Third Street, Troy.

Francis A. Toma, 69
MECHANICVILLE — Francis A. "Tootsie" Toma Sr., 69, of Hulin Street, died Tuesday at Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late John and Angeline Febba Toma and widower of Lucy Zeppieri Toma.
Mr. Toma grew up in Cohoes and lived in Mechanicville all his adult life.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Toma was a trainman for the Boston & Maine Railroad in Mechanicville for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
He was also the on-site manager for A.J. Toma Construction in Cohoes for a number of years.
He was a member of the United Transportation Union and Assumption-St. Paul Church in Mechanicville.
He was a thoroughbred horse racing enthusiast.
Survivors include two sons, Francis A. Toma of Niskayuna and Michael T. Toma of Malta; three daughters, Mary Beth Toma of Mechanicville, Roberta Chauvin of Coram, Long Island, and Gina M. Higgins of Stillwater; three brothers, Anthony and Albert Toma, both of Cohoes, and Carmen Toma of Loudonville; five sisters, Anne Santucci, Jean and Roberta Toma and Helen Howe, all of Cohoes, and Karen White of Latham; his friend, Virginia Volk of Clifton Park; and two grandsons.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Assumption-St. Paul Church, William Street.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Katherine R. Valenti, 80
HALFMOON — Katherine R. Valenti, 80, of Halfmoon, died Tuesday at her residence after a brief illness.
Born in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Carmella Sergio Grillo and widow of Sebastiano Valenti.
She lived in Halfmoon for the past five years and previously lived in Lindenhurst, L.I.
She received her education in Mother Cabrini's Convent in Hyde Park.
Mrs. Valenti was a seamstress in New York City for more than 50 years.
She was a choir member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Lindenhurst and a member of the Corpus Christi Church in Ushers.
Survivors include a daughter, Sofia Donati of Halfmoon; two sisters, Josephine Sampson of Babylon and Anna Roselli of Brooklyn; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Corpus Christi Church.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Waterford.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Catricala Funeral Home, 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park.
