Mary Louise Mersereau

Former Jamesport resident Mary Louise Mersereau died at her home on Merritt Island, Fla., on April 6, 2001 after a lengthy illness. She was 86.

Ms. Mersereau was born in Brooklyn on Oct. 16, l914. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lanning, of Merritt Island; sons Larry, of Melbourne, Fla., and Richard, of Cocoa Beach, Fla; four grandsons, and three great-grandsons.

Services took place in Florida.

Alexander C. Doroski

Alexander C. Doroski of Riverhead died Aug. 21, 2001 at Central Suffolk Hospital at the age of 75.

He was born Nov. 13, 1925, to Frank and Justine (Ruskowski) Doroski in Riverhead. Mr. Doroski was a retired Riverhead police officer and actively assisted the elderly. He volunteered regularly at the Riverhead Nursing Home, supporting benefit events for the residents there.

Of particular importance to him was the weekly rosary service, conducted at the home by members of St. Isidore's Parish. According to his family he believed strongly in the value of Catholic education and focused much time and energy on Mercy High School in Riverhead. Having supported his children and grandchildren through their years at Mercy, he remained involved with school activities. Up to his death he was fondly known as "Grandpa Doroski" to faculty and students. His family has established a fund to assist the school through a program to be determined.

He was predeceased by his wife, Helen (nee Sadowski) and is survived by three sons, Alexander, of Mattituck, Gerard, of Riverhead, and Mark of Oslo, Norway; two daughters, Suzane, of Colorado and Helen Puckett of Virginia; two brothers, Walter and Conrad, both of Aquebogue; seven sisters, Jean Balnis, Justine Casey and Hedwig Kozakewicz, all of Riverhead, Bertha Wilcenski of Mattituck, Helen Strebel and Irene Zlatneski of Aquebogue and Albina Sujecki of Calverton. Five grandchildren also survive.

Family received friends on Aug. 23 at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, Riverhead. Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was offered on Aug. 24 at St. Isidore's R.C. Church, Riverhead, with Msgr. John Mirecki officiating. Interment followed at St. John's Cemetery, Riverhead.

George J. Lohr

George J. Lohr of Riverhead died at Central Suffolk Hospital on Aug. 2, 2001 at the age of 72.

He was born in Brooklyn to George and Louise (Eichner) Lohr on Feb. 23, 1929. Mr. Lohr retired from Suffolk Lighting in Southampton, where he worked in the sales department.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Battle of Florida, and is survived by his wife, Joyce; a daughter, Deborah Haney of Riverhead; three sons, Timothy, of Riverhead, George Jr., of Coram, and Mark, of Delaware; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation was private. A memorial service was held at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, Riverhead, on Aug. 25 with the Rev. Jerry Hill officiating.

Emma Grout

Emma Grout of Riverhead died Aug. 18, 2001 at the Riverhead Nursing Home at the age of 96.

She was born June 29, 1905, to John and Alma (Mader) Stephenson in Worcester, Mass. Ms. Grout was predeceased by her husband, Leslie, in 1975, and is survived by her dear friend, Carol Terry of Riverhead.

A graveside service was held on Aug. 20 at the Riverhead Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, Riverhead.

Kenneth N. Voegelin

Former Calverton resident Kenneth N. Voegelin died in Sarasota, Fla., on Nov. 14, 2001 at the age of 83.

He was born in South Orange, N.J., on May 21, 1918. A heavy equipment operator by profession, Mr. Voegelin was a past monarch of Samoor Grotto, a member of Sarasota Lodge 147 F & A M and a past patron of Eastern Star No. 66. He moved from Calverton to Florida 34 years ago.

Mr. Voegelin is survived by two sons, Kenneth, of Sarasota, and Warren, of Calverton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Port Jefferson. Memorial donations may be made to Myakka Valley Firefighters Assoc., 7287 Myakka Valley Trail, Sarasota, FL 34241.

Anna Zielinski

Anna (Sorenson) Zielinski died at Central Suffolk Hospital at age 76 on Nov. 21, 2001. Before her final illness, she lived at Riverhead Nursing Home.

She was born in Riverhead on Oct. 23, 1925. Predeceased by her husband, Adam, in 1960, she is survived by a daughter, Marie, of Riverhead, and two brothers, Waldemar Sorenson of Yaphank and Neils Sorenson of Riverhead.

A private service was held at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead on Nov. 24.

Thelma M. Seaman

Thelma M. Seaman of Riverhead and Rockledge, Fla., died Nov. 7, 2001 of pneumonia at age 87 in Wuestoff Hospital in Rockledge.

She was born at home in Riverhead on Feb. 26, 1914, to John Courtenay and Sarah Hannah Lewis, and graduated from Riverhead High School. She lived in Manorville for much of her life, working on the family farm with her husband, Arthur Seaman, and moved to Riverhead to live with her daughter, Janice Moffat, seven years ago. She wintered in Florida. Her daughter reports that she loved music and enjoyed knitting.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur; two daughters, Ms. Moffat and Joyce Hettrick of Florida; a son, Kenneth, of Georgia; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held on Nov. 12 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Rockledge, Fla.
