Larry J. Mittico
Ret. Bus Driver, 63

Larry John Mittico of Croton-on-Hudson, a retired 23-year bus driver for Shortline and a former Circleville resident, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Horton Medical Center, Middletown. He was 63.
The son of Nicholas Mittico and the late Frances Martin Mittico, he was born April 16, 1937, in Brooklyn.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member, 1998-1999 commander and past chaplain of the D.S. Burrows, Chapter #5, Disabled American Veterans, in Middletown. Mr. Mittico was a graduate of St. John's High School in Goshen.
He is survived by his father; his wife, Janet Brosch Mittico, at home; three daughters, Darlene Mittico of Woodridge and Lori Ann Mittico and Nicole Mittico, both of Circleville; several nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush with the Rev. Alfred Gallant officiating.
Burial will be made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Middletown, N.Y. 10940.

Helen A. Kraycer
Homemaker, 85

Helen A. Kraycer of Liberty, a homemaker and a 46-year area resident, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Michael and Agatha Swierczek, she was born November 10, 1914, in Dickson City, Pa. She was the widow of Joseph Kraycer who died March 27, 1970.
Mrs. Kraycer was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church in Liberty.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Kraycer of Port Jervis and Michael Kraycer and Edward Kraycer, both of Liberty; two daughters, Anna Payne and Bernice Danzer, both of Liberty; two brothers, Benedict Swierczek of Throop, Pa., and Roman Swierczek of Olyphant, Pa.; two sisters, Rose Dziedzic of Olyphant, Pa., and Elizabeth Marvid of Eynon, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Martha, and a brother, John.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday at St. Peter's Church in Liberty with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.

E. Jeanette Stone
Homemaker, 82

E. Jeanette Stone of the Town of Newburgh, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Cornwall Hospital. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Fred and Ella Weller, she was born January 21, 1918, in Newburgh. She was the widow of Fred G. Stone.
Mrs. Stone attended Newburgh schools.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a beloved mother, 'Nanny Cookie' grandmother, sister and wife. A sweet soul who always gave of herself to anyone in need."
Mrs. Stone is survived by a daughter, Jeanne Sommers of Bloomingburg; a brother, George R. Weller of York, Me.; four grandchildren, Donna Housman, Lori Holmes, Cindy Schneider and Christopher Sommers; nine great-grandchildren, Amy, T.J., Kenny, Johnny, Jeanette, Christopher Jr., Michael, Nicole and Kaitlyn; a niece and several nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Gridley-Moran Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden.
Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., P.O. Box 7E, East Syracuse, N.Y. 13057 or to the American Diabetes Association, c/o NYS Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, Conn. 06150-1160.

Nelson ‘Nip’ Calhoun
Ret. Field Tester, 80

Nelson R. "Nip" Calhoun of Monticello, a lifelong area resident and a retired chief field tester for NYSEG with 38 years of service, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 80 years of age.
The son of the late Raymond and Myrtle Bedford Calhoun, he was born February 26, 1920, in Monticello.
Mr. Calhoun was a member of the NYSEG Quarter Century Club. A veteran of World War II, he served in the 704 Tank Destroyer Battalion of General Patton's Third Army. He was a member of the Ruddick Trowbridge Post #73, American Legion, a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge #1544 and a former member of Bear Paw Hunting Club, all in Monticello; and a lifelong member of Jackson Hunting Club.
In a family statement, it was said, "We have all lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. We will all miss him very much."
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Violet Price Calhoun, at home; a son, Roger N. Calhoun of Monticello; a granddaughter, Balinda Eileen Irelan of Rock Hill; a grandson, Reed Nelson Calhoun of Colorado Springs, Colo; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Corey; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Henry Calhoun, and a sister, Arthene Brasington.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The Elks and American Legion will conduct services Friday evening at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in Messenger Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas M. Callihan Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc., 19 Prince St., Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

Evelyn M. King
Homemaker, 79

Evelyn M. King of Matamoras, Pa., a longtime area resident, died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Jordan, N.Y. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late Laurence and Clara Houghtaling Bedord, she was born August 15, 1920, in Monticello. She was the widow of William C. King.
Mrs. King was a member of Matamoras United Methodist Church, a member and past treasurer of the Wonder Workers of the church and a member of the Matamoras Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Maria King of Jordan; a brother, Dr. William O. Bedford of Little Rock, Ark.; a grandson, Chad King; two sisters-in-law, Josie King and Helen Peters, both of Matamoras, Pa.; a niece; and several nephews, including Thomas King and Keith Peters, both of Matamoras, Pa.
Services were held Thursday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home in Port Jervis with the Rev. Henry Isaacks officiating.
Burial was made in the Hurleyville Cemetery in Hurleyville.

Helen E. Deutsch
Ret. Legal Secy., 68

May 23, 2000 -- Helen Elizabeth Deutsch of Monticello, a retired legal secretary for the former Costa and Lagarenne Law Office in Monticello and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at her home. She was 68 years of age.
The daughter of the late Stephen J. Sr. and Jennie Felter Murran, she was born August 30, 1931, in Monticello.
Mrs. Deutsch was a member of St. Peter's R.C. Church and the current secretary of the Lady Elk's Lodge #1544, both in Monticello, and a member of the Sullivan County Legal Secretary's Association.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Edward Deutsch, at home; three sisters, Genevieve Case of Delmar and Julie Voelkers and Harriet Pirich, both of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, John Murran, Charles Murran and Stephen Murran Jr., and a sister, Kate Case.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's R.C. Church in Monticello.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Building Fund, 10 Liberty St., Monticello, N.Y. 12701.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.

Leo Rose
Ret. Salesman, 84

Leo Rose of Foxcroft Village in Loch Sheldrake, a retired salesman for Newmark & Lewis and a 20-year area resident, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at his home. He was 84 years of age.
The son of the late David and Gussie Paulowitz Rose, he was born January 1, 1916, in Brooklyn.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Loch Sheldrake Senior Club, a volunteer for Community General Hospital, a member of ARC, the Fallsburg Reading Center and Fallsburg Library. He was an active fundraiser for the dialysis center in Monticello and a member of the Hurleyville Synagogue.
He is survived by his wife, Anne "Honey" Kaminsky Rose, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Mel Chaiken of Fishkill and Marcia and Barry Kirshner of Boca Raton, Fla. a granddaughter, Lori Chaiken; and several nieces. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Rose.
Services were held Sunday at the Hurleyville Synagogue in Hurleyville with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.
Burial was made in the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery in Hurleyville.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.

Kathleen C. Maher
Homemaker, 77

Kathleen C. Cummings Maher, a 27-year resident of Midland Park, N.J. and a homemaker, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at her home. She was 77 years of age.
She was born in Brooklyn and was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, N.J.
Mrs. Maher is survived by her husband, Stephen P. Maher, at home; five children and their spouses, Stephen P. and Barbara Maher and Kathleen and Francis Mulgrew, all of Monroe, Kevin and Virginia Maher of Wurtsboro, Walter J. and Kathleen Maher of Fair Lawn, N.J., and Dorothy and James Krause of Mahwah, N.J; two sisters, Winifred Cavanagh of Cary, N.C., and Marguerite Maher of Mahwah, N.J.; a brother, Kenneth Cummings of Catonsville, Md.; and 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff, N.J., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park, N.J.
Burial was made in Christ the King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, N.J.
