John K. Kallajian III, an ironworker for Hi-Tek Erectors in Monticello, died Sunday, October 10, 2004 at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 35.
The son of Lynne Ellard and John Kallajian, he was born July 30, 1969 in Hartford, CT. In addition to being a Mamakating Little League Coach, He was an extremely devoted father with a heart of gold. His family was his entire life.
Survivors include his fiancee, Barbara B. Walch and their two sons, John K. Kallajian IV and Michael Stone Kallajian, all at home.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 15, at noon at the funeral home. The Rev. Betty Beach will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a trust fund that has been established for his two children. These contributions can be addressed to Barbara Walch, In Trust for John K. Kallajian IV, Bank of America, PO Box 788, Wurtsboro, NY 12790.
Grace Edington Kautz
Housekeeper, 42
Grace Edington Kautz, a Housekeeper for Villa Roma Timeshare in Callicoon, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 42.
The daughter of Robert and Ouida Thompson Edington, she was born April 1, 1962 in New York City.
Survivors include her parents, Robert and Ouida Thompson Edington of Callicoon Center; her husband, Douglas Kautz at home; four children, Steven, Terry, Christina and Robin Kautz, all at home; and a brother, Mark Edington of IL.
A memorial Mass will be held at St. George's Church in Jeffersonville on Friday, October 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. Reverend Ignatius Vu will officiate.
Cremation will take place at Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Beaulah Eichenauer

Beaulah Luckey Eichenauer, a former Liberty resident, died Saturday, October 9, at the Pascack Valley Hospital in Westwood, NJ after a long illness.
She was the only child of Leroy Lester Luckey and Clara B. Cross. She was a retired employee of the New York Telephone Co., and had been a secretary at the Ramsdall Wells Ins. Agency until moving to Bergen County in 1965. She was a member at Revonah Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Liberty Flower and Garden Club and also a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Liberty and Advent Lutheran Church in Wyckoff, NJ.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard E. Eichenauer.
Arrangements which were made by the Becker Funeral Home will be private, with the cremains placed in the family plot at the Liberty Cemetery. Friends may contribute to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Restoration fund or a charity of one's choice.
Sophie Waryha
Ret. Egg Candler, 88
Sophie Waryha of Ferndale died Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. She was 88.
She was born in New York City on January 30, 1916 to the late Steven and Anna Lamatsky Dworetsky. She was the widow of Joseph Waryha.
Sophie worked many years as an egg candler for Brender Farms in Ferndale. She was a lifelong resident and member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty.
She is survived by a daughter-in- law, Gilda Waryha of Ferndale, two sisters, Kathryn Sawyer of Ferndale, and Vera Sarokwash of Oradell, NJ, a sister-in-law, Laura Dworetsky of Ferndale and three grandchildren, Jason, Edward and Christine Waryha. She was predeceased by two sons, Stanley and Thomas Waryha.
Friends may call at Ramsay's Funeral Homes, Inc. on 275 South Main Street in Liberty on Friday, October 15, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church on 264 North Main Street in Liberty on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. Rev. Ivan Csete will officiate.
Interment will be in the family plot at St. Peter's Cemetery on Cold Springs Road in Liberty.

Alice Barner
Bartender, 75
Alice Barner, a bartender for the Trotters Bar in Monticello, and longtime resident of the area, died Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 75.
She was born May 26,1929 in Hazzard County, KY and was the widow of Robert E. Barner.
She was a pillar of compassion, generosity and good cheer. Her welcoming presence drew family, friends and passersby to her side throughout her days. Though modest of means, she possessed the greatest wealth there is - Love. All who've had the privilege of her presence can say: "You have taught us well. Thank you."
Survivors include five sons, William Simpson and his wife, Sue, of Spring Gap, Md., Steve Simpson and his wife, Willie, of Falmouth, KY, Dennis Simpson of Cincinnati, OH, Tim Simpson and his wife, Donna of Greenville, and Randy Wilkins and his wife, Janine, of Port Jervis; two daughters, Patricia Love of CA and Darlene Bonfante and her husband, Tony, of Quincy, MA; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many area friends.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday morning, October 22 at 11 a.m. at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home on 401 Broadway in Monticello. The Rev Roy Shaffer will officiate.

Ret. Nurse's Aide, 76
Lillian C. Shorten of Bloomingburg, formerly of Warwick, having lived in Orange County for 50 years, a retired nurse's aide at both the Orange County Infirmary and St. Anthony's Community Hospital, died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 in Middletown. She was 76.
The daughter of the late Harry F. and Lillian Dutt Kamphner, she was born September 19, 1928 in the Bronx.
She was a member of both the Town of Mamakating Seniors and the Town of Wallkill Seniors. She was a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer as well as a parishioner of St. Stephen's Church in Warwick.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Shorten of Greenville; her daughter, Eileen Shorten of Ocala, FL, her daughter, Kathie Murphy of Bloomingburg, and her son James P. Shorten of Wallkill, her daughter, Laurie and Joe Smith of Alabaster, AL, her son, John and his wife, Jo-Ann Shorten of Bloomingburg, her son-in-law, Bruce Exceley, her 16 grandchildren, Stacy, Tommy, Grace, Jason, Stephen, Danielle, Shannon, Kristen, Evan, Ria, Craig, Tracey, Callie, John, Jade and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, James T. Shorten; her daughter, JoAnne Exceley; and her son, Tracy Shorten.
Visitation hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004 at Strong-Basile Funeral Home, Inc. on 75 Main Street in Warwick.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2004 at the funeral home.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ret. Yard Foreman, 91
Jack J. Wallace, a retired yard foreman for Bogner Seitel Lumber Co. in Monticello, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 91.
The son of the late Fletcher and Bessie Krone Wallace, he was born on February 13, 1913 in Albermarle, NC.
He was the widower of Josephine Wallace who predeceased him on July 6, 2001.
Jack was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, and also a member of the Free & Accepted Masons, Bethany Lodge #101.
Survivors include a son, Alan C. Wallace of Maybrook, a daughter, Barbara Randolph of Richmond, VA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home on 401 Broadway in Monticello. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 23, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Matthews officiating.
Burial with military honors wil be in the Sullivan Co. Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Homemaker, 73
Alba Maria Raigosa of Monticello, a homemaker and longtime area resident, died Sunday, January 14, 2001, at the Albany Medical Center in Albany. She was 73 years of age.
Born January 27, 1927, in Columbia, she was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello.
She is survived by two daughters, Mariela Angel and her husband, Guillermo, of Monticello, and Claudia Maria Raigosa of Columbia; and four grandchildren, Paula Angel, Alexandra Angel, Edwin Angel and Juan Sebastian Londono.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Peter's Church in Monticello on Thursday.
Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.
Funeral arrangements were made by the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.
Gertrude M. Daniels
Ret. Dispatcher, 87
Gertrude M. Daniels of Woodbourne, a retired dispatcher, died Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles L. and Gertrude A. Dalton Bush, she was born March 26, 1913, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Valintia Daniels.
She is survived by four children, Jane Horos and her husband, George, of Woodbourne, Patricia Streimer and her husband, Martin, of Liberty, Barbara Huffman of Neversink and Michael Daniels of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, John Bush, and a sister, Ethel Mohan.
Friends may call at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Main St., Woodbourne, on Friday at 6 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
