Arthur J. Hauer of Bloomingburg, a longtime area resident, died Thursday, March 8, 2007 at Middletown Park Manor. He was 92.
The son of the late John and Johanna Hauer, he was born February 23, 1915 in New York City.
Mr. Hauer worked for many years as a plumbing and heating contractor, but he was best known as a much loved and respected member of the Ellenville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rose; one son, Mark and his wife, Jeanne; two daughters, Janet and Lois, all of Bloomingburg; and five grandchildren, Steven, Matthew and Rachel Hauer, and Jennifer and Tracy Schelhorn.
Cremation was made at Cedar Hill Crematory.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 24 at 3 p.m. in the auditorium at Watchtower Farms, 900 Red Mills Rd., Pine Bush.
Ann Cox
Retired Librarian, 85
Ann Cox of Washingtonville passed away Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Campbell Hall Nursing Home. She was 85.
The daughter of John and Elizabeth Bruynge Hannema, she was born July 11, 1921 in Clifton, NJ.
She was the widow of Melvin J. Cox.
Mrs. Cox was a retired librarian and secretary for Washingtonville School District, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Washingtonville. She loved working as a volunteer in the Blooming Grove Country Store. Her main joy was making handmade teddy bears, dolls and crafts of all kinds.
A family statement reads, "The family would like to thank Arden Hill Hospital Staff and Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center Staff and Dr. Klein for caring for Ann and her family."
Survivors include three sisters, Sophie Haakmeester of Slate Hill, Grace Burenga of Campbell Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Betty Cortright of Middletown; three daughters, Melanie Lane and husband, John, of Circleville, Nancy Brown and husband, Joseph of North Carolina, and Cheryl L. Schuck of Indiana; two loving grandsons, Daniel Leahy of Bloomingburg, and James Leahy of Washingtonville; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a cousin, Joan Thompson; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ret. School Teacher, 96
Caroline H. Smith a longtime Smallwood resident, and retired New York City Public School Teacher, died on Saturday, October 6, 2007 in the Amsterdam Nursing Home in New York City. She was 96.
Caroline was born in New York City on October 24, 1910 the daughter of Max and Mollie Henner.
She was a member of the Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El, the Bethel chapter of Hadassah, the Mothers of Bethel, and the Bethel chapter of AARP.
She is survived by her son, Frederick L. Smith of Allentown, N.J.; her daughter, Marjorie E. Belson of Brooklyn; granddaughter, Esa Robbin Madoff and her husband, David; grandsons, Joshua Stuart Smith and his wife, Jennifer, Matthew Belson and his wife, Jodi; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Noah, Emma, and Benjamin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Smith.
Graveside funeral services were held on Thursday in Temple Beth-El Cemetery, Bethel.

Homemaker, 67
Gertrude “Maxine” Melvin of Andes, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in the Town of Colchester. She was 67.
The daughter of the late Grant and Hazel Miner Becker, she was born February 27, 1940 in Margaretville.
Maxine was a member of the Pleasant Valley Methodist Church in Andes. She had work-ed with her husband on the family farm in Andes.
In a family statement, “Maxine, may you rest in peace in the Kingdom of God. You are deeply missed by your family and you will live forever in our hearts.”
Survivors include her husband, Donald G. Melvin, at home; three daughters, Judy Titch and her husband, Robert of Andes, Elaine Finkle and her husband, George of Roscoe and Laura Henderson and her husband, Dale of Andes; three sons, Wayne Melvin and his wife, Debbie of Roscoe, Charlie Melvin and his wife, Lisa of Andes and Danny Melvin and his wife, Grace also of Andes; her sister, Millie Bryant and her husband, Dick of Laurens; her brother, Ronnie Becker of Schenevus; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, George Barlow of Salem, Mass. and Bruce Melvin and his wife, Tammy of Andes.
She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Becker and a sister, Delores Barlow.
Private memorial services and a celebration of her life was held on Saturday, October 6 in the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe. The Rev. Nancy Asbury officiated.

Richard H. Genoski of Grahamsville, a retired iron worker for Bellis Wire Co. and a seventeen year area resident, died Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Center, Liberty. He was 77.
He was born August 26, 1930 in Brooklyn.
Richard served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his two sons, Ricky Genoski of Long Island and Joseph Genoski of Liberty; two sisters-in-law, Ann Powers and her husband, John of Grahamsville and Ellen DiMaria and her husband, Joe of Long Island; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including Michael Foster and his wife, Tina of Florida and James Foster of Grahamsville.
He was predeceased by his wife, Joan Von Toussant Genoski on October 13, 2001.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 10, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 11 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Lawrence McDonnell will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty.

Gina L. Anderson of Barryville died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at her home. She was 38 years old.
She was born December 29, 1968 in Manhattan, the daughter of the late Jeanette Anderson. Gina was a full charge bookkeeper for the Center of Workforce Development at the County Government Center in Monticello.
A family statement read, "Gina loved NASCAR, and thought Tony Stewart was the man. She also loved Brett Michaels. She was a wonderful mother and friend."
Those who survive her are one daughter, Ashley Anderson and her fiancee, Stephen Crown; her adoptive parents, Kaare and Brit Grosvold of South Carolina; her grandfather, George Hanson of Brooklyn; four sisters, Anne Sandvik of South Carolina, Kim Coffey of Connecticut, Helen Howell of South Carolina and Heidi North of Conneticut; several nieces and nephews including her favorite nephew, Johnny Sandvik; and three of her best friends: Barbara Ann, Rosie and Stacy.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 9 at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Mary Owens officiating.
Cremation will be held at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa.

Lifetime resident, 85
Edward W. “E.H.” Hessinger a lifetime resident of Liberty, passed away on Sunday October 7, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center Skilled Nursing Unit Harris. He was 85.
Mr. Hessinger was born in Hoboken, NJ on April 12, 1922 to the late Albert and Lillian Irmscher Hessinger. He was married March 2, 1947 to the late Winifred Parks, who died June 24,2003.
He was retired from Breakstone Dairies and the Liberty Central Schools. Mr. Hessinger was a member of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, Past Director and member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Dept., President of the Skilled Nursing Unit Residents Council at Catskill Regional Medical Center, and a member of the White Sulphur Springs Cemetery Corp.
Surviving are one son, Robert of Youngsville; two daughters, April Kissel and husband Joseph of White Sulphur Springs, and Janet Fritzinger of Poughkeepsie; six grandchildren, Christopher Austin, Kevin Austin, Amy Black, Jessica Hessinger, Andrew Hessinger, and Bethany Fritzinger and 7 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday October 9, from 7-9 p.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc. 275 South Main Street Liberty. Firematic services will be conducted by the White Sulphur Springs Fire Dept at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday October 10, 2007 at 11 a.m.. Mr. Hessinger’s daughter Janet Fritzinger will officiate.
Interment will be following the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery Cox Road White Sulphur Springs.

James J. McKeegan of New Windsor entered into rest on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Valley View Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goshen. He was 74.
Son of the late Joseph and Ruth Barker McKeegan, he was born on December 15, 1932 in Braddock, Pa. He was married to Helen A. Ronsini McKeegan, who survives at home. James proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and retired from West Point as a management analyst.
In addition to his loving wife of 28 years, Helen, he is survived by his son, James McKeegan and his wife, Lisa, of Cochecton; daughter, Diane Reilly and her husband, Bart, of Marlboro; sister, Ann Jane Brozek of Verona, Pa.; grandchildren, Brittany Reilly of Marlboro and Megan Reilly of Chicago; sister-in-law, Rose Angeloni of New Windsor; brothers-in-law, Frank Ronsini and his wife, Hope, Mario Ronsini and his, wife, Ruth, all of New Windsor and Joseph Ronsini and his wife, June of Cornwall-on-Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.
His brother, Patrick McKeegan, and sisters, Ruth Ward, Mary Praksti, Elsie Mills and Arlene Pfaff, predeceased him.
There will be no services per the family's wishes.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh.
