Janitor, 81
Donald J. Flowers of Liberty, passed away on Wednesday October 3, 2007 at Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 81.
Mr. Flowers was a fifty year resident of the area and had worked as a janitor for NY Telephone in Monticello.
He was born in Barbarta, Ohio on December 12, 1925.
He married Donna Williams in Bloomingburg on September 10, 1977.
He served in the Army during WW2.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Williams Flowers at home; daughter, Tammy Newhall and husband, John of Liberty; sister, Ruth Hawkins of Rogers, OH; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday October 6, 2007 at Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Liberty.
Cremation was at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory Newburgh.
Interment of ashes with Military Honors will be held at a later date in the Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery Sunset Lake Road Liberty.
Thomas H. Clarke
Logistics Coordinator, 62
Thomas H. Clarke of Plainsboro, NJ, entered into rest on Saturday Oct. 6, 2007 at the Summerset Medical Center, Summerville, NJ. He was 62 years old.
Thomas was born on November 15, 1944 to Henry and Edith Taverner Clarke in Mt. Kisco.
He was employed as a logistics coordinator for Pearson Education Prentice Hall of Cranbury, NJ for 41 years and served in the Us Air Force during Vietnam. He and his wife Phyllis Bienskie Clarke were married in 1979 in Garnerville.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Phyllis, at home; two stepdaughters, Deborah Jacobsen and her husband, Ed of Woodridge and Kimberly Grzybek and her husband, Jack of Bloomingburg; six grandchildren, Jack, Billy, Jennifer and Brian Grzybek and Amanda Lara and Kirsten Jacobsen; also by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Bastow and Betty Williams.
The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, October 13, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Rte. 59, Suffern. A service of remembrance will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Funeral Home.
Cremation and interment of ashes in the Airmont Lutheran Cemetery, Airmont will be held at the convenience of the family.

James E. Barringer
Surburbane Propane Wrkr., 67
James E. Barringer of Napanoch, died Monday, October 8, 2007. He was 67.
James was born on June 30, 1940 in Kingston, the son of the late Louis and Emma (Beesmer) Barringer.
He worked for Suburban Propane in Kerhonkson. He was a past Lieutenant of the Kerhonkson Fire Department and his friends and family always thought of him as a "Mr. Fix It".
Anything that needed repair you could rely on James the jack of all trades.
On July 23, 1961 James married Kathryn Bollin at the Federated Church of Kerhonkson Parsonage.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by their children, Diana Lynn Barringer of Middletown, Lisa Dawn Horvath and her husband, Alex of Grahamsville, Tami Jo Barringer of Napanoch and Jonathan James Barringer; his brother, Raymond Barringer and his sisters, Hilda VanNostrand and Cheryle Avery; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Visiting will be held on Friday, October 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson.
A Celebration of his life will follow at noon at the funeral home.
Joan L. Benedict
Homemaker, 69
Joan L. Benedict of Wallkill, a homemaker, a retired technician with Packaged Lighting Inc. in Walden and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in Newburgh. She was 69 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Agnes Melluish Reuter, she was born September 4, 1932, in Wallkill.
Mrs. Benedict was a member of the Walden Baptist Church and the Montgomery Grange No. 916.
She is survived by her husband, William Benedict, at home; two daughters, Lorinda Benedict of Walden and Karen Lee and her husband, Casey of Wallkill; three sons, Lawrence Benedict of Wallkill, Bruce Benedict and his wife, Lori of Bloomingburg, and Timothy Benedict and his wife, Barbara of Walden; ten grandchildren, including Andrea Cascun and her husband, Donald of New Windsor; two sisters, Carolyn Palmer of Walden and Helena Stokes of Wallkill; two brothers, Paul Reuter of Danielson, Conn., and Robert Reuter of Wallkill; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and George Reuter.
Friends may call at the Millspaugh Funeral Home in Walden on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Walden Baptist Church in Walden with the Rev. James Van Houten officiating.
Burial will be made in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery in Walden.

Shirley Landesberg
Retired Teacher, 76
Shirley Landesberg of Rochester, a longtime area resident and a retired 23-year teacher in the Ellenville School District where she taught children in the art of making music, died Wednesday, March 6, 2002, in the Jewish Home of Rochester. She was 78 years of age.
The daughter of the late George Winter and Helen Lehman, she was born April 30, 1923, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Emanuel Landesberg who died in 1985.
Mrs. Landesberg was a member of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association and the Sisterhood of South Fallsburg. She was a member of the Pine Bush Community Band and a life member of Hadassah. Mrs. Landesberg was interested in the preservation and use of Yiddish as a language and had some of her translations on the Internet.
She is survived by a son, Maurice Landesberg of Rochester; a daughter, Fern Goldstein of Elizabeth, N.J.; four grandchildren, Eli Landesberg of Rochester, and Leah Goldstein, Yonina Goldstein and Tsvi Goldstein, all of Elizabeth, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Isaac Gottlieb officiating.
Burial was made in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery in Glen Wild.

Dr. Edvard Hamre
Ret. Physician, 90
Dr. Edvard Hamre of Callicoon, a 34-year area resident and a retired medical doctor on staff at the Grover M. Hermann Division of Community General Hospital in Callicoon from 1967 to 1983, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at The Wolfe Family Home on Route 97 in Narrowsburg, where he had resided for the past several years of his life. He was 90 years of age.
The son of the late Edvard Johan Larsen and Janna Karoline Karlson Hamre, he was born June 26, 1911, in Bergen, Norway.
A graduate of the University of Oslo in Norway, he served his internship at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, N.Y., and his general practictioner residency in Oakwood Hospital in Deerborn, Mich. He did his surgical residency at Gouverneur Hospital and Brooklyn Hospital.
Dr. Hamre was a member of the sons of Norway International.
He is survived by a son, Jan Hamre of Moen, Norway; a daughter, Eli Nilsen of Grimstad, Norway; three grandsons, Robert and Frank Nilsen and Steiner Hamre, all of Norway; his devoted caretaker, Gerda Wolfe of Narrowsburg; and his business manager, Joan Sykes of Callicoon.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Nettie Castellano
Bookkeeper, 56
Nettie Castellano of Grahamsville, a bookeeper for Freskeeto Frozen Foods in Ellenville, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. She was 56 years of age.
The daughter of the late Rocco and Lena Pepitone Castellano, she was born November 30, 1945, in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Castellano was a volunteer at the Daniel Pierce Library in Grahamsville and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne.
She is survived by two sisters, Grace DiMilia of Grahamsville and Lillie Englese of Lynbrook, L.I.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne with the Rev. Fr. John Lynch officiating.
Burial was made in the Claryville Cemetery.

Frances Osborne, 93
Frances Osborne of Rock Tavern died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Walter and Matilda Brentall Hand, she was born September 17, 1908, in Sloatsburg. She was the widow of Reginald Osborne who died in 1983.
Mrs. Osborne is survived by two sons, Lawrence Osborne of Rock Tavern and Vernon Osborne of Monticello; a daughter, Joan B. Messineo of Wurtsboro; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at the Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home in Suffern.
Burial was made in the Airmont Cemetery.
