Ret. Bartender, 86
Frances C. Haas of Shohola, Pa., a retired bartender for the Barryville Hotel and a 46-year area resident, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Stanley and Christine Zarnowski, she was born March 3, 1916, in Scranton, Pa. She was the widow of Charles Haas who died in 1990.
Mrs. Haas was a member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, Pa.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Haas Sr. of Shohola, Pa., and Michael Haas of Greeley, Pa.; a grandson, Walter Haas Jr. of Barryville; two granddaughters, Charlette Haas of Barryville and Nicole Haas of Honesdale, Pa.; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church in Shohola, Pa., with the Rev. David Cramer officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Ann's Cemetery in Shohola, Pa.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.
Leighton Etter Sr.
Bartender, 57
Leighton S. Etter Sr. of New Orleans, La., a bartender at Johnny White's and a former Sullivan County resident, died Thursday of prostate cancer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in New Orleans. He was 57 years of age.
He was born in Chambersburg, Pa., and lived in New Orleans for the past 10 years.
He was a member of the Downtown Irish Club and Vietnam Veterans of America. He was the president and founder of the Sullivan County Chapter #315 of the VVA and a member of the Greater New Orleans Dart Associations. A Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, he received the Vietnam Cross of Gallentry with Palm, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Air Medal with No. 5.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy C. Etter; two sons, Roger Wil Sheesley of Selinsgrove, Pa., and Leighton S. Etter Jr.; a daughter, Heidi Renee Etter of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, Andy Zeger of Waynesboro, Pa.; and two sisters, Aileen Sharar of New Cumberland, Pa., and Linda Long of New York City.
A memorial service was held at the Gaskin-Southall-Gordon & Gordon Mortuary.
Francis Redmond Jr.
Ret. Pressman, 71
Francis T. Redmond Jr. of Long Eddy, a retired pressman for the New York Post and the New York Times, and a former resident of East Branch and Kauneonga Lake, died Monday, February 25, 2002, at his home. He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late Francis T. Sr. and Anna Williams Redmond, he was born May 9, 1930, in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadette Redmond, at home; two sons, Michael Redmond and Patrick Redmond; two daughters, Karen Abdel-Khalek and Linda Feliciano; two brothers, Robert Redmond and Edward Redmond; a sister, Nancy Spafford; four step-children, Lawrence and Thomas Lyons, Bernadette T. Redmond and Catherine Zuidema; and six grandchildren.
Services were held March 1, followed by interment in St. Charles Cemetery in Pinelawn.

Sheila M. Stoppy
Ret. Postmaster, 50
Sheila Mary Stoppy of Cuddebackville, a retired postmaster for the Campbell Hall Post Office, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at her home. She was 50 years of age.
The daughter of James Angus Jr. and the late Marlene McMurray Scott, she was born February 7, 1952, in Middletown.
Mrs. Stoppy enjoyed bowling in the Saturday Night Ladies League in Middletown and taking care of her little SS Ranch.
She is survived by her father of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a son, Ralph Herman Broeckel Jr. of Cuddebackville; a daughter, Melissa DelRio of Clearwater, Fla.; three brothers, John Angus of Port Jervis, Robert Angus and Scott Angus, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Christina Ritzel of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three grandchildren, Lauren, Timothy and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Tammy Lynn Angus, and a brother, James Angus III.
Services were held Monday at the Van Inwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Wurtsboro, for both Sheila and her mother who predeceased her on December 15, 2001.
Cremation was held at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Julius Szabo
Ret. Garageman, 67
Julius Szabo of White Lake, a 34-year area resident, the retired owner of Julie's Auto Repair of White Lake and the previous proprietor of White Lake Citgo, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 67 years of age.
The son of Ilonka Szabo and the late Gyula Szabo, he was born January 18, 1935, in Hungary.
Mr. Szabo was a member of the Bethel Lions Club and was an avid sportsman.
In a family statement, it was said, "Julie was a loving husband and proud father and grandfather. He is described by his grandchildren as fun and happy. His love of work and friends made him a success in life and his community."
He is survived by his mother of Budapest, Hungary; his wife, Clara Lakoczky Szabo, at home; three daughters, Susan Bunce of Bethel, Monica Takourian and her husband, Gary, of White Lake, and Catherine Lux and her husband, Joseph, of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Daniel and Christine Bunce, Mark and Robert Takourian and Michael and Scott Lux.
Services were held Sunday evening at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Gloria Schultz
Homemaker, 69
Gloria Jean Schultz of Bloomingburg, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at her home. She was 69 years of age.
The daughter of the late Arthur and Mildred Legette Baker, she was born October 8, 1932, in Mechanicstown. She was the widow of Norman E. Schultz.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose family meant the world to her."
She is survived by five children, Thomas Wayne Peet and his wife, Jane, of Floral City, Fla.; Edwina Rennalls and her husband, Larry, of Eagle River, Alaska, Edwin Peet and his wife, Terry, of Bloomingburg, Darla Kennedy and Richard Edwards, both of Monticello; two step-sons and their wives, Thomas and Sharon Schultz and Kevin and his wife, all of Middletown; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rena Davis of Campbell Hall, Delores Green of Walden and Linda Higbie of Middletown; four brothers, Arthur Baker of Port Jervis, William Baker of Montogomery, and Lawrence Baker and Thomas Baker, both of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Ralph, Frederick, John and James Baker, and two sisters, Mildred Nubsman and Alice Williams.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Lloyd Cemetery in New Paltz.
Miriam Sher
Homemaker, 87
Miriam “Mimi” Sher died on Monday, November 1, 2007 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 87.
The daughter of Lizzie and Phillip Ginsberg, she was born in Vilna, Poland on February 20, 1920.
Mimi spent most of her life in Brooklyn as a homemaker and bookkeeper. She was a terrific cook and an excellent card player. She also had lived in Delray Beach for 10 years.
Mimi was well loved by her family, friends, and caregivers. She will be remembered for her feisty spirit and her sense of humor.
Mimi is survived by a daughter, Erica Hart and her husband, Howie, of Hankins; a son, Steven and his wife, Nancy, of NYC; her grandchildren, Kyla and Ari; a sister, Margy Joseph and her husband Bob; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert, in 1991 and by her brother, Jerry Ginsberg.
The family would like to thank the Roscoe Community Nursing Home for the wonderful loving care they have shown to Mimi for over five years.
The funeral was held on November 2 at Beth Shalom Chapel in Smithtown.
Mimi was buried at the New Montefiore Cemetery next to her husband.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Roscoe Community Nursing Home resident fund.
Theresa “Tess” Buchal
Former Office Manager, 57
Theresa “Tess” Buchal of Glens Falls, died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Glens Falls Hospital after a long illness. She was 57.
Born on August 15, 1950 in Liberty, she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Marion (Watson) Green.
Tess was the former Office Manager for Convenient Medical in Queensbury. She enjoyed artisan crafts, sewing, and collecting Santas. She loved her family, all of the holidays, but she enjoyed Christmas the most. Charles and Tess especially enjoyed their annual visits to York Beach, Maine and Nubble Lighthouse.
Charles and Tess were high school sweethearts who were married on December 28, 1968 in Liberty.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Charles; their children, Derek Michael Buchal of Clover, S.C., and Jennifer Lynn Dodson and her fiancee, Ernest Dunkley, of Lake George; their two grandsons, Charles Calvin Buchal and Dustin Michael Dunkley; her sister, Joan Most and her husband, Lee, of Ballston Spa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, her brother, Charles “Pat” Green also predeceased her.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6 at the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls. E-mail condolences may be sent to the website www.kilmers. com.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
