Truck Driver, 75
Ralph H. Phelps, of Liberty, a truck driver and lifetime area resident, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 75.
Ralph was the son of the late Anthony and Margaret Baer Phelps and was born on February 11, 1931 in Connecticut.
He was a member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and the Clarence Hoyt Post #927 V.F.W., Liberty. He was also an Army Veteran During the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Huebsch Phelps of Liberty; a son, Alex Carlott and his wife, Deborah of Lakeland, Fla.; a daughter, Sharon Hulse of Liberty; four grandchildren, A.J. Carlott, Chris Carlott, Traci Hulse and Cameo Carlott; two great grandchildren, Caleb Carlott and Walter Rivenburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by six brothers.
There will be no visitation.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, January 21 at the Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Powell officiating.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

John Rusin
Stock Handler, 51
John Rusin, of Swan Lake, a 15-year area resident, died on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 in Brooklyn. He was 51.
The son of Roman and Nellie Paluszek Rusin, he was born on July 19, 1955 in Poland.
John was a stock handler for the New York City Transit Authority in New York City. He was also a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty.
A family statement reads, "Dad was a loving husband and father. He was a hard worker who lived to provide for his family. An excellent chef, he enjoyed cooking large meals for family gatherings. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors. He took great pride and sought refuge in the home that he built in the country."
Survivors include his mother, Nellie Rusin of Brooklyn; his wife, Deborah McAneney Rusin at home; three sons, John James Rusin and his wife, Jaime of Rock Hill, Steven Rusin and Nicholas Rusin both of Swan Lake; three brothers, Joseph Rusin of Florida, Adam Rusin of Brooklyn and Richard Rusin of Connecticut; two sisters, Sophia Rusin of New York City and Kathy Teitelbaum of Connecticut; a granddaughter, Emily Grace Rusin; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, January 22, 2007 at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty. Rev. Raymond Bagdonis officiated.
Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Richard Mitteer
Dairy Farmer, 84
Richard Mitteer of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away Friday, January 19, 2007 at Heartland of Zephyrhills. He was 84.
He was born August 28, 1922, in Liberty to Donald G. and Elizabeth Prince Mitteer.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a dairy farmer, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in New York, a member of the Grange 1308 in New York, a member of several farm organizations and of the Hurleyville Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mitteer of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his children, Brian Mitteer (Dana) of Virgil, Marilyn Curle of Barton, Christine Paddock (James) of Elmira, Joyce Babcock (Glendon) of Lake Huntington, Glen Mitteer (Terri) of Chester, Va., Leslie Joseph of Neversink, Edgar M. Matteson (Gay) of Omaha, Neb., Nella M. Dunnington (Clarence) of Orlando, Fla. and Melgan Dean (Arden) of Neversink; thirty four grandchildren; and twenty five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service took place on Monday, January 22 at the First Christian Church in Zephyrhills. The Rev. Eldon Earnest officiated.

Edward C. Paden
Owner Mom/Pop's, 71
Edward C. Paden of Wurtsboro, the owner of Mom & Pop's Wurtsboro Variety Store, died Friday, January 26, 2001, at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J.He was 71 years of age.
The son of the late Clarence and Marie Maduro Paden, he was born May 30, 1929, in Haverstraw.
Mr. Paden was a former 36-year maintenance manager at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River. A member of the Mamakating Moose Lodge, he was involved in the Rockland County Boy Scouts, served in the Merchant Marines and was a former volunteer fireman in West Haverstraw.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret Brestolli Paden, at home; three sons, Charles Paden and Thomas Paden, both of Wurtsboro, and Edward Paden Jr. of California; three daughters, Diane Johnson of the Florida Keys, Fla., Susanne Paden of Wurtsboro and Helena Rodriguez of Suffern; a sister, Elizabeth Cantido of Haverstraw; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Paden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro with the Rev. Peter J. Madori officiating.
Burial will be made in Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Michael E. Senkiew
Ret. RR Repairman, 76
Michael E. Senkiew of Port Jervis, a retired car repairman for Conrail Railroad in Port Jervis, a retired laborer for Local 17 in Newburgh and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, January 25, 2001, at his home. He was 76 years of age.
The son of the late John and Sophie Surdrick Senkiew, he was born November 23, 1924, in Port Jervis.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the U.S.S. Obannon, he was a member of Tri-States Naval Ship Post #7241, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in Port Jervis. He was also a member and usher of St. Mary's R.C. Church and a member of the Port Jervis Knights of Columbus Council #471.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was an avid horseshoe player."
He is survived by his wife, Frances Winters Senkiew, at home; two sons, Randall Senkiew and his wife, Sharon, and Gary Senkiew, all of Port Jervis; two daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Luke Van Horn of Huguenot and Denise and Steve Geiger of Pond Eddy; a brother, Russell Senkiew of Port Jervis; a sister, Mary Nemeth of Elmwood Park, N.J.; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Randi Beth, Kristin and Kurt Senkiew and Steven and Jon Ross Geiger; and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was made in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis.

Joseph F. Smith
Ret. Highway Worker, 64
Joseph F. Smith of Callicoon, a former worker for Collingdale Boro Pennsylvania Highway Department, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 64 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Rose Allgeier Smith, he was born March 24, 1936, in New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Doran Smith, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Alma Smith of Callicoon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Kevin Verrill of Mifflinburg, Pa., and Jennifer and Paul Pitz of Narrowsburg; six grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosemarie Smith, and a brother, Robert E. Smith, a retired New York City policeman.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered January 29 at St. George's Church in Jeffersonville, with Father Robert Nee, O.F.M., officiating.
Burial was made in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.

Nora May Kinlen
Homemaker, 71
Nora May Kinlen of Newburgh died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 71.
She was born April 30, 1936 in New York City and was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Granger Fredericks.
Nora was a resident of the Bronx for 38 years, moving to this area a year ago. She was a communicant of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction and had been a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post #1456.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed her trips with her husband to Atlantic City.
Nora is survived by her husband, John F. Kinlen Sr., who she married January 10, 1954. Mr. Kinlen survives at home. Also surviving are one daughter, Doris Murray and Ron Abbagliato, of Wallkill; four sons: John F. Kinlen, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Pawling, Robert W. Kinlen and his wife, Margaret of Shohola, Pa., Joseph M. Kinlen and his wife, Annemarie of Bloomingburg, and William G. Kinlen and his wife, Susan of Thornwood; her son-in-law, James Murray of Bloomingburg; 15 grandchildren: Lisa, Jessica, Bobby, Jason, Jennifer, Christopher, Kerry, Nick, Matt, Michelle, Dana, Rebecca, Kelli, Michael and Stacie; eight great-grandchildren: Hunter, Kuyler, Griffin, Samantha, Elijah, Jordan, Isiah and Trenady; two sisters, Anna Schwartz of Vermont and Catherine Becker of Virginia; a brother-in-law, Bernard Kinlen and his wife, Maureen; a sister-in-law, Mary Bartlett and her husband, Hal; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, September 8 at St. Columba Church, Hopewell Junction, followed by burial in Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill.

Helen Kennedy
Homemaker, 92
Helen Kennedy of Newburgh, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at home after a long illness. She was 92.
A Newburgh resident since the early 1980s, she previously lived in Deer Park and also in Bohemia.
While on Long Island she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several construction firms where she met her husband.
Helen married Arthur B. Kennedy on February 5, 1951 in Malverne. Mr. Kennedy died on January 7, 1979.
In addition, she was a Committee Woman for the 99th District in Suffolk County LI from 1975 - 1979. She was president of the Theodore Roosevelt Republican Club, and a member of the East End Republican Club, both on Long Island.
She was a past member of Peace Lutheran Church in Bohemia and a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Newburgh.
Born September 2, 1914 in Brooklyn, she was the oldest of five children of the late Julius and Natalia (Hein) Hoffart.
She is survived by her daughter: Donna Gandolfini; her son-in-law Angelo, and her granddaughter Camille of Newburgh with whom she made her home; and her step-granddaughter Danielle and husband Faizool Ali of Bloomingburg. She is also survived by her daughter Natalie Martin and family of Mechanicsville, Va.; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hoffart of Washington State; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a step daughter: Patricia Dameron; two step sons: John R. and William T. Kennedy; two sisters: Caroline Neuberger and Elizabeth Voth; and two brothers: Edward and William Hoffart.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Christ Lutheran Church, South St. and Fullerton, Newburgh. The Rev. Ernst A. Mossl officiated.
Burial will be made in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale.
