Eunice McComb of Port Jervis, died Thursday, September 6, 2007, at St. Joseph's Place. She was 86.
She was born July 20, 1921 in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of the late Charles and the late Lillian Abrams. She was married to the late Leonard McComb; who predeceased her on July 18, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Larry McComb of Port Jervis, Gary McComb of Milford, Pa., and Wayne McComb of Montague; four daughters, Diane Vandermark, Old Towne, Fla., Dolores McComb of Greenville, Susan McComb of Swan Lake, and Janet McComb of Port Jervis; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Visitation and funeral service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be at Manning Cemetery, Greenville Township.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Place, 160 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY 12771.

Richard R. Burke
Former Treasurer, 77
Richard R. Burke Sr. of Bloomingburg, a five-year area resident and former long-time resident of New City, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at Summit Park Hospital in Pomona. He was 77.
The son of the late Thomas F. and Helen Regan Burke, he was born in Jackson Heights, Queens on June 5, 1930.
He was a treasurer for Broadway plays in the theatrical district in Manhattan. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his sons: Richard R. Burke, Jr., of Spring Valley, Christopher P. Burke, and Sean T. Burke of Connecticut; granddaughter Heather Burke and her fiance Thomas Burakowski; grandson Ryan Burke; great-grandson Bradley Burakowski, and three brothers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary T. Burke.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation was made at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope.

Walter Lowerre
Member, Brotherhood of Carpenters Local #19, 94
Walter Lowerre of Middetown, a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 94.
The son of the late Charles and Bertha Swarthout Lowerre he was born on May 3, 1913 in Middletown.
He was a past grand officer of the Green-Ulster Order of the Eastern Star and a member of Hoffman Masonic Lodge. Walter was the last surviving charter member of the Circleville Fire Department, past captain of the Circleville Fire Police, and a member of both the Orange County Volunteer Fire Association and the Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 19.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris, at home; one son, Richard and his wife Carrie; two daughters, Patricia Lambach of Brooksville, FL, and Barbara Piper of Wurtsboro; and seven granchildren, Lori, Nancy, Ann, Vivian, June, Patrick and Andrew and eight great-grandchildren.
Walter was predeceased by his first wife, Olive Cordier; two sisters, Edith Aschoff and Alberta Bomgardner; one brother, Winiford, and one great-grandchild, Jacob.
A funeral service was held Thursday, September 6, at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, followed by services by The Order of the Eastern Star and the Hoffman Masonic Lodge.
Garett Vandershaff and the Circleville Fire Department conducted a firematic service of remembrance at the funeral home.
Cremation will be private, at the convenience of the family.

Lewis B. Smith

Lewis B. Smith of Old Liberty Road, Monticello, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 8, 2007 following a short illness. He was 86.
He retired from the New York Telephone Company in Monticello after 32 years of service and thoroughly enjoyed his 30 years of "taking it easy" since then.
Mr. Smith was a direct descendent of one of the pioneer families of Sullivan County. His great great grandfather was Nehemiah Smith, Jr. who settled near Monticello in 1803. Born in Monticello December 18, 1920 he was the son of Charles and Addie Wright Smith. He was a WW II veteran serving in the US Army Signal Corps from 1942-1945 with time in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was a charter member and past president of the Hagan Hunting Club of Monticello, member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Kingston chapter, a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church and Monticello Elks Lodge #1544. Dad, "Pa-Pa," was always a farmer at heart probably best known for his summer vegetable stand and sweet corn sold locally for 50 years.
He was married for 59 years to Shirley Wright Smith at home.
He is survived by two sons, Glenn L. Smith and his wife, Patricia of Monticello, Gary L. Smith and his wife Bonnie of Rock Hill; three daughters, Kathy Beseth and her husband, Steve of White Sulphur Springs, Linda Freaney and her husband, Michael of Swan Lake, and Lauren Frunzi and husband, Gary of South Fallsburg; as well as eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Tully, Adam Smith, Shawn Smith, Michael Beseth, Kimberly White, Patrick and Kellie Freaney, Peter, Kristin, Gary and Matthew Frunzi; and nine great-grandchildren; sisters Emily Bernhey of Landing, N.J. and Edith Porter of Hurleyville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers Rev. Arthur Judson Smith, Roy Smith, Alton Smith, and sister Ethel Misner.
Visitation will be at the Monticello United Methodist Church Tuesday September 11 from 3 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 12 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Thomason officiating.
Burial will be in the Hurleyville Cemetery.
During visitation and the funeral, parking is available in the church parking lot off Lakewood Avenue behind the church.

Retired Police Officer, 52
Martin R. Polignone Sr. of Washingtonville, a 20-year area resident, died Thursday, August 30, 2007 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. He was 52.
The son of the late Stephen Polignone and Edna Capozzi Polignone, he was born on January 6, 1955 in Jersey City, N.J.
He retired after 21 years as a police officer for the NYPD’s 50th Precinct in the Bronx. He was a part-time police officer for the Village of Montgomery, and a member of the Orange County Shields.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Lopez of Washingtonville; two sons, Martin R. Polignone Jr. and Joseph S. Polignone of Monroe, and their mother, Ursula Polignone of Monroe; two sisters and one brother-in-law Yvonne E. Butterfield of New Windsor and Leslie E. Moore and her husband Andrew of Wurtsboro; a granddaughter, Kyla “Pretty Girl” Polignone; and nieces & nephews.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, September 5 at St. Mary’s Church, 42 Goshen Ave., Washingtonville, with the Rev. John J. Keaveney officiating.
Interment was made in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Washingtonville.

Richard M. Bonney of Wurtsboro, a machine operator at Nexxons in Chester, died Monday, September 3, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 58.
The son of the late Robert and Julie Roach Bonney, he was born on February 3, 1949 in New York.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Langone Bonney, at home and his children, Richard Bonney Jr. and Michael Bonney, both of Pennsylvania and Dawn Bonney at home. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters, grandchildren and nieces and nephews, as well as his in-laws.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, September 8, at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Middletown.
Burial was made in St. Joseph Cemetery, Middletown.

Natalie Riordan of Bullville, died Sunday, September 2, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 48.
The daughter of William and the late Estelle Raven, she was born November 18, 1958 in Brooklyn.
Known to her friends and family as “Nat-Nat,” she was a loving and caring friend who took care of everyone. She will be remembered as a very sweet lady who was the World’s Greatest Mom.
Nat is survived by her loving husband, James Cambareri, at home; her daughters, Dara Riordan and her husband, Richard Morgan and Melissa Hogle, all of Bullville, and three sons: William and Darren Riordan of Bullville and Pito Espiritusano and his wife, Alaja of the Bronx. She is also survived by her sister, Heidi Kennedy, her husband, Mike and children, Stephanie and Brandon, all of Monticello; Natalie’s father, William Raven; brother, Nathan Raven and his daughter, Cassie of Pine Bush; brother, Mark Raven of Monticello, and sister, Maureen DeGroat and her children, John DeGroat and Angelina and her son, Joseph DeGroat, all of Monticello, and her beloved grandson, Richard Morgan who she called “Pumpkin Face.”
A graveside service was held Thursday, September 6, at Wallkill Cemetery, Middletown. Rabbi Goldman officiated.

Truck Driver, 45
James A. Patterson of New Paltz, a truck driver, formerly of Marlboro and lifelong area resident, died September 7, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He was 45.
The son of Jerry D. Patterson Sr. and the late Vicenzia "Vivian" Fratto, he was born August 20, 1962 in Newburgh.
James was an avid hunter, motorcycle enthusiast and he worked for Metro North for 13 years.
A family statement reads, "James was a fun-loving guy who was liked by all who knew him. He was especially loved by his wife and children. He was a loving son and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him."
Survivors include his father, Jerry D. Patterson and wife, Roberta; wife at home, Eileen Donohue Patterson; son, Jesse James Patterson at home; daughter, Shelby Lynn Patterson at home; brothers, Joseph F. and Jill Patterson of Newburgh and Jerry D. and Barbara Patterson of Marlboro; sisters, Jane E. and Bill Culligan of Monticello and Jennifer V. and Milton Madonia of Montgomery; nieces and nephews, Jenna and Jaclyn Patterson, Brook and Jay Patterson, James, Jordan, Jerianne Wagner, Daniel, Burgandy Modonia, Brian, Krystal Donohue, Shane, Chelsea Williams, Brandon Murry, Shawn and Stephen Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11 at the DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Rt. 9W, Marlboro. Father Jerry Brooks will officiate. Cremation will follow.
