Carpenter, 79
Claus Schons of Jeffersonville, a self-employed carpenter, died Monday, January 29, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris, as the result of injuries sustained in a vehicular accident. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Nicholaus and Margaretha Arenz Schons, he was born October 24, 1921, in Trier, Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Lanese Schons, at home; three daughters, Michele Morganthaler of Mastic, Renee Prarie of Youngsville and Claudette Darson of Syracuse; five sons, Craig Lanese of Jeffersonville, Wayne Lanese of Stroudsburg, Pa., Dean Lanese of Derry, N.H., Tim Lanese of Youngsville, and Claus Schons Jr. of Mastic; a sister, Jennie Joyce of Southhold; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Francis Church in Youngsville on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father Robert Nee, OFM, officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Sharon L. Clark
Registered Nurse, 47
Sharon Lee Clark of Midlothian, Va., formerly of Glen Spey, a registered nurse at the Chesterfield Mental Health Clinic in Chesterfield, Va., died Monday, January 29, 2001, at the Chippenham Hospital in Chesterfield, Va. She was 47 years of age.
The daughter of Vernon and Rita Ealin Clark, she was born February 22, 1953, in Port Jervis.
Miss Clark attended the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church in Pond Eddy. She was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of America, the Richmond AIDS Ministry in Richmond, Va., the Virginia Nursing Association and a board member of the Professional Marriage and Family Therapists.
She is survived by her father of Port Jervis; her mother of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; a brother, Michael Clark of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; a niece, Catie Clark; and several aunts and uncles.
Services and interment will take place in the spring at the Glen Spey Cemetery in Glen Spey.
Due to her ministry and research of AIDS, memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond AIDS Ministry, Richmond, Va. 23200.
Azalee Dais
Adult Care Vol., 70
Azalee Dais of Youngsville, who retired in 1994 as Director of Patient Care and Assistant Administrator at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at her home. She was 70 years of age.
The daughter of Ila Pertelle Hughes Taylor and the late Arthur Hughes, she was born May 23, 1930, in South Carolina.
Mrs. Dais was a U. S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. She was a graduate of Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor's degree from New York University and her Master's degree from Columbia University. She was a member of St. Francis Church in Youngsville and was instrumental in the opening of the Sullivan County Adult Care Center where she was a volunteer in the adult day care program. Mrs. Dais was also a member of the Community Services Board of Sullivan County.
She is survived by her mother of Liberty; two daughters, Alyssa Solis of Maryland and Alana Dais, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Helen Dais of Syracuse and Alistair and Barbara Dais of Maryland; and six grandchildren, Alyson, Abigail, Antoinette, Cameron, Alixx and Trey.

William J. McGregor
Warehouse Mgr., 70
William J. McGregor of Washingtonville, a warehouse manager for A&P and a 15-year area resident, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at his home. He was 70 years of age.
The son of Edith Nelson McGregor and the late William McGregor, he was born December 26, 1930, in the Bronx.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. McGregor was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Council #5890, Knights of Columbus, in Washingtonville.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. We will miss you, Papa."
He is survived by his mother of Washingtonville; his wife, Grace McGregor of Washingtonville; three sons, Michael J. McGregor of New City, William J. McGregor of Bloomingburg, and Anthony J. McGregor of Washingtonville; four daughters, Eileen M. McGregor of California, Lillian M. Garcia of Liberty, and Esther M. and Lydia M. McGregor, both of Washingtonville; a brother, Malcolm McGregor of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Victor and Robert Garcia, and Sean, Christie, Katherine and Victoria Mc Gregor; and many nieces and nephews.

Malcolm L. Back Jr. of Jeffersonville, the owner of Malcolm Back Jr. Sanitation Company in Jeffersonville and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late Malcolm L. and Margaret Weissinger Back Sr., he was born March 6, 1940, in Hackensack N.J.
Mr. Back was a member of the Bucktail Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Scardefield Back, at home; a daughter, Alyssa Back of Jeffersonville; a brother, Paul Back of Groton, Mass.; his mother-in-law, Helen Scardefield of Jeffersonville; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. Kristen Anderson officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Walter Warner of Jeffersonville, a mechanic, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his home. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Estella Warner, he was born October 11, 1931, in St. Vincent, West Indies.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Gonzalez Warner of Jeffersonville; a son, Walter Warner of Jeffersonville; many brothers and sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with Father Robert Nee officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Edward C. Bisland
Ret. Engineer, 70
Edward C. Bisland of McCandless, Pa., a former Glen Spey resident and a retired engineer for Westinghouse Corp., Dravo and Blawnox Corp., where he worked in software for satellite tracking, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, in McCandless, Pa. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late Edward and Marion Stearns Bisland, he was born May 8, 1930, in Sparrowbush.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a captain with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member and past master of Avalon Lodge #675, Free and Accepted Masons, in Avalon, Pa. Mr. Bisland received his undergraduate degree from the American University in Washington, D.C., and his engineering degree from Carnegie Tech, now CMU. He was pursuing a degree in computer science from Point Park College. An avid hunter and sportsman, he was a member of the North Boroughs Sportsmen's Club and the Allegheny County Rifle Club. He was a Christian Scientist by faith and had been active in the Avalon Church until its closing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Alston Bisland, at home; two daughters, Cynthia B. Kinney and her husband, Thomas, and Marcia Bisland, all of Bellevue, Pa.; two brothers, Roger Bisland of Glen Spey and Alfred Bisland of Lynnhaven, Fla.; a granddaughter, Stephanie L. Kinney; a cousin, Lillian Angelakos of Glen Spey; and an aunt, Ethel Wachter of Long Island.
Services were held in Avalon, Pa.
Marguerite Washburn
Homemaker, 75
Marguerite "Midge" Washburn of Unadilla, a homemaker, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at the Fox Hospital in Oneonta. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Fred and Elizabeth Fuller Cornell, she was born July 3, 1925, in the Town of Colchester. She was the widow of Wilfred Washburn.
Mrs. Washburn was a member of the Unadilla Baptist Church and a member of the Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, in Unadilla.
She is survived by two sons, Wilfred Washburn Jr. and David Washburn, and two daughters, Mary VanFalkenberg and Louise Sites, all of Unadilla; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Helen Bishop and Barbara Dirig, both of Hancock; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two children, Louella Wright and William Washburn, and a sister, Charlotte Comfort.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Unadilla Baptist Church in Unadilla.
Burial will be made in the Unadilla Cemetery.

Louise Knecht
Homemaker, 87
Louise Knecht of Narrowsburg, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at her home. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Wilhelmina Scheidel Harder, she was born August 2, 1913, in New London, Conn. She was the widow of Francis "Red" Knecht.
Mrs. Knecht was a member of the United Methodist Church in Narrowsburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Emily Hallock and Dorothy Foster, and a son, Francis Knecht, all of Narrowsburg; two sisters, Emily LaBarr of Sussex, N.J., and Lillian Jaycox of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Pauline Glackin and Wilhelmina Blakelock, and a brother, Alfred Tyler.
Services were held Saturday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Steven Knutsen officiating.
Interment was made in the Lava Cemetery in Narrowsburg.
