Greta Irene Rorbach Spriggs, a resident of the Canton Christian Home in Canton, Ohio, a former resident of Livingston Manor and a retired 37-year school teacher, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in Ohio. She was 89 years of age.
She was born January 25, 1911, in Johnsonburg, N.J., and was the widow of Harold Spriggs.
Mrs. Spriggs was a 50-year member of Sullivan Chapter No. 298, Order of the Eastern Star, in Livingston Manor and a member of the Church of the Savior United Methodist Church in Canton, Ohio. Before moving to Ohio, Mrs. Spriggs was a member of the Livingston Manor Presbyterian Church. She attended school in New Jersey and earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the State University in Oneonta.
In a family statement, it was said, "She will be missed by her friends and by the family of William and Nancy Harvey who loved her as 'Aunt Greta'." In a note from Mrs. Harvey, she relates to friends of Greta ÷ "You were, indeed, good and precious friends of Greta. She was blessed and thankful for your caring friendship her whole life. She spoke of you often because of this relationship and she spoke of it with deep appreciation."
She is survived by a nephew, Lewis, and a niece, Charlene. She was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude and Helen, and by a brother, Fred.
A memorial service was held May 18 at the Canton Christian Home with Dr. William R. Harvey and Canton Christian Home Chaplain Ronald Iwanusa officiating.
Interment was made in the Johnsonburg Christian Cemetery in Johnsonburg, N.J.

Edward B. Johnson
Ret. Jeweler, 85
Edward B. Johnson of Forestburgh, the retired owner of Johnson & Elliott Jewelry Store in Monticello and a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 85 years of age.
The son of the late William E. and Emily Bullard Johnson, he was born November 14, 1914, in New York City.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Johnson is survived by a sister, Dorothy Tully of Tacoma, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Harris Funeral Home in Roscoe.
Ethel W. Bonner
Homemaker, 80
Ethel W. Bonner of Syracuse, a former longtime Monticello resident and a homemaker, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at St. Camillus Rehabilitation Center. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Doc and Rosie Carter Walker, she was born October 23, 1919, in Bromley, Ala. She was the widow of Freeman E. Bonner who died in 1992.
Mrs. Bonner was a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello where she was a past treasurer, secretary, and church pianist, as well as a member of the Missionary Board and Mother's Board.
She is survived by three sons, Edward Freeman Bonner of Kalamazoo, Mich, Allan Bonner of Monticello and Frederick Bonner of Bloomingburg; two daughters, Rachel Kgama and Alice Dunn, both of Syracuse; two brothers, Rev. Percy Walker of Troy and Rev. Leon Walker of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held Wednesday at the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello with the Rev. Mervin Armstead officiating.
Interment was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
Funeral arrangements were made by Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello.
Anne LaPolt
Homemaker, 83
Anne LaPolt of Smallwood, a homemaker, died Friday, May 19, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late James and Anna Foley, she was born June 7, 1916.
Mrs. LaPolt was a member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Smallwood-Mongaup Valley Fire Department and secretary of the Democratic Club.
In a family statement, it was said, "We have lost a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, sister and friend. Anne loved life - she embraced each day with her vivacious personality and smile. She gave of herself freely to family, friends and neighbors. Anne was a special woman. She loved people and saw the good in everyone. She was always the optimist. She was as enthusiastic about everyone's good fortune as her own. If you asked her, she was the richest person on earth and had anything she possibly needed, yet lived humbly. She had the heart of an angel and the devilishness of a leprechaun. She will be greatly missed by all of us whose lives she touched. May the road rise up to meet you, the wind always be at your back, the sunshine warm upon your face. May God hold you in the palm of His hand until we meet again."
She is survived by a son, Gerald Chack of Rock Hill; a daughter, Susan Buell of Memphis, Tenn.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Wednesday at St. Peter's R. C . Church in Monticello.
Cremation was private.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
Daniel H. Stamm, 63
Daniel H. Stamm of Bloomingburg, a longtime area resident, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his home. He was 63 years of age.
The son of the late Henry and Sarah Louise Rockett Stamm, he was born March 15, 1937, in Weehawken, N.J.
Mr. Stamm was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Rock Hill, an active member of The Gideon Society and a member of the Christian Sportsman's Club.
He is survived by his wife, Judith M. Manninger Stamm of Bloomingburg; a son, Greg Stamm of Sandy Hook, Conn.; four daughters, Judy Birdsall of Somers, Elisabeth dePicciotto of Manhattan, Christine Griffin of Denver, Colo., and Kathleen Bederaux-Cayne of Seymour, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Josh G., Jenni, Sarah, Laura, Samuel, Joshua W. and Haley; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Thursday in the Rock Hill Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Interment of the ashes will be private.

Alice A. Halstead

Alice A. Halstead of Wurtsboro, a retired factory worker for Rosenstock in Ellenville and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Latus and Mary Every, she was born July 17, 1910, in Kripplebush. She was the widow of Theodore R. Halstead, Sr.
Mrs. Halstead was a member of Community Church of Wurtsboro.
She is survived by six sisters and three brothers-in-law, Rose and Tom Winship and Mary and Dave Geer, all of Middletown, Ruth and Harold Wood of Enfield, Conn., Ina Ploss of the state of Florida, Myrtis Quick of New Paltz and Mildred Yerry of Stone Ridge; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Theodore R. Halstead Jr., a daughter, Catherine Martin and two brothers, Victor Every and Preston Every.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 173 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro, on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Neuviller officiating.
Burial will be made in Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Harold P. Wagner
Machinist, 66
May 30, 2000 -- Harold P. Wagner of Middletown, a machinist with Pittsburgh Monroe Tube Company in Monroe and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was 66 years of age.
The son of Martha Winand Wagner and the late Philip E. Wagner, he was born September 15, 1933, in Middletown.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a member and commissioner of the Mechanicstown Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Utter Wagner, at home; his children, Sherry Longwell of Bloomingburg and Denise Arciero of Walden; his mother of Cuddebackville; a brother, Robert Wagner of Wurtsboro; a sister, Dorothy Mann of Middletown; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services and burial were private.

Stuart Ackerson
Ret. Farmer, 77
June 9, 2000 -- Stuart "Doug" Ackerson, a 20-year resident of Narrowsburg, formerly of Vernon, N.J. and a self-employed farmer, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Stuart Jacob and Helen Fleetwood Ackerson, he was born September 27, 1922, in Oak Ridge, N.J.
Mr. Ackerson was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hardyston, N.J., and an honorary Vernon (N.J.) Township fireman.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Sanders of Vernon, N.J.; a son, Pete Ackerson of Lake Wallenpaupack, Pa.; a brother, Ralph Ackerson of Spartanburg, S. C.; a sister, Jeanette Potter of Ohio; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held in July.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
