Paula Blum Houston of Mountaindale, a secretary for the Sullivan County Department of Community Services in Liberty and a lifelong area resident, died at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 60 years of age.
The daughter of the late Al and Minnie Ziskind Blum, she was born October 7, 1940, in Monticello.
She is survived by her husband, John Robert Houston, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jason and Mary Houston of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Ben and Kim Houston of Miami, Fla.; a granddaughter, Nicole Houston; a sister, Selby Feldman of Woodridge; two uncles, Zelick Blum of Mountaindale and Hyman Blum of Miami, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial was made in the Mountaindale Synagogue Cemetery in Glen Wild.

John H. Hyzer
Ret. Blacksmith, 86
John H. Hyzer of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a blacksmith by trade, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late John Harvey and Flora Corcoran Hyzer, he was born March 8, 1915, in Livingston Manor.
Mr. Hyzer operated Hyzer's Blacksmith Shop in Liberty and was the last blacksmith in the village. He was a 50-year member of the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Sullivan County and a past president of the Liberty Cemetery Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Hyzer, at home; three sons, Allen Hyzer of Livingston Manor, and Donald Hyzer and John Hyzer Jr., both of Andover, N.J.; two step-sons, Daniel Hurley of Grahamsville and Michael Aziz of New York City; a daughter, Janet Fredrick of Derry, Pa.; a sister, Sarah Welton of Livingston Manor; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Donna Lepsky officiating.

Stacey Merklin
Homemaker, 56
Stacey Ann Merklin, a 20-year resident of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and a homemaker, died Thursday, December 28, 2000. She was 56 years of age.
The daughter of the late John J. and Marion "Skip" McCaffery Knapp, she was born December 12, 1954, in Monticello.
In a family statement, it was said, "She loved family and instilled values, morals and most of all, happiness into the hearts of many. She loved cooking and family gatherings. She was the matriarch of our clan, always strong and always present. Stacey Ann Merklin will be greatly missed and treasured as a strong woman, wonderful sister, wife, mother and an inspiration to all."
Mrs. Merklin is survived by her husband of 28 years, James Merklin; a daughter, Johna Rose and her fiance, Mark Norman; a son, Ryan James; a sister, Rose Knapp Traub; a sister-in-law, Tracy Merklin; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Traub and Tim Merklin; four nephews, Justin and Brandon Traub and Jordan and Kristopher Merklin; and many loving aunts, cousins and friends.
Graveside services and committal will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Hurleyville Cemetery in Hurleyville.
Local arrangements were made by the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty.

Committal services and interment of the cremains of the late Charles A. Greene of Liberty, who died on December 25, 2000, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2001, at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty. Mr. Greene was 81 years of age.
Arrangements were made by the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty.
Albert H. Hauser
Ret. Const. Supt., 95
Albert H. Hauser of Callicoon Center, a retired superintendent of bridge construction for the Lane Construction Co. in Fultonville and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at his home. He was 95 years of age.
The son of the late Adam and Margaret Kraft Hauser, he was born in Callicoon Center on August 17, 1905. He was the widower of Frances Edwards Hauser.
Mr. Hauser was a member of the Catskill Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Sullivan County Beekeepers Association, the Callicoon Center Schuetzen Verein and Delaware Lodge No. 561, Free and Accepted Masons, in Callicoon.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert W. and Elva Hauser of Callicoon Center; two daughters and a son-in-law, Audrey McCullough of Kingston and Carla and Frank Hahn of Callicoon; a sister, Katherine Borden of Liberty; five grandchildren, Donna Ihlefeldt of Jeffersonville, Charles McCullough of Olympia, Washington, Lisa Rosenberger of Hortonville, Dane Hauser of Callicoon Center and Beth Brothman of Budd Lake, N.J.; and ten great-grandchildren, Adam and Tiffany Hauser, Austin and Elyssa Ihlefeldt, Jessica, Kimberly and Michael Rosenberger, Erin and Elise McCullough and Samuel Brothman.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Paquet officiating.
Burial will be made in the Callicoon Center Cemetery in Callicoon Center.

Dorothy I. Barbuti of Deland, Fla., a homemaker and former Sullivan County resident, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at her home. She was 57 years of age.
The daughter of Leonia Kuttner, she was born in the Bronx. She moved to Deland in 1989 from Otisville.
Mrs. Barbuti was a member of the Central Florida Corvair Club. She enjoyed crocheting and collecting bears and birdhouses.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, James Barbuti, at home; two sons, James Barbuti of Otisville and Frank Barbuti of Lake Mary, Fla.; three daughters, Emeley Nicholson of Walden, Yvonne Decker of Maybrook and Patricia Barbuti of Orange City, Fla.; her mother of Lew Beach; a brother, Frank Kuttner of Livingston Manor; two sisters, Mary Joe Rampe of Livingston Manor and Stephanie Brown of Clinton; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Jacquelynne Edwards.
Services will be held Friday at the Allen-Summerhill Memorial Chapel in Deland, Fla.
Burial will be made in Deland Memorial Gardens in Deland, Fla.
Jane Kingsley

Jane Kingsley of Monticello, a homemaker, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Tree Tops Nursing Home in Mohegan Lake. She was 62 years of age.
The daughter of Marie Petri and the late Charles Petri, she was born January 28, 1939, in the Bronx.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles Kingsley, at home; her mother of Peekskill; a son, Charles Kingsley of Monticello; two daughters and a son-in-law, Terry and Ken Wallack of Wolf Lake and Melissa Lanza of Monticello; two granddaughters, Nicole and Chelsey; four brothers, Charles and Peter, both of Florida, Martin of California and Raymond of Indiana; a sister, Marilyn of New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph's Church in Wurtsboro with the Rev. Peter Madori officiating.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Mary C. Madeo
Volunteer, 76
Mary C. Madeo of Hurleyville, a 47-year area resident, died of cancer Monday, April 2, 2001, while visiting her family in Key West, Fla. She was 76 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles and Deborah Devlin Wondrasch, she was born April 18, 1924, in the Bronx.
Mrs. Madeo was a member of St. Peter's R. C. Church in Monticello. She was a volunteer for the Monticello Soup Kitchen and also operated the South Fallsburg Day Care Center during the latter part of the 1960s. She was head of the South Fallsburg Housing Authority in the 1970s, served as manager of the Sullivan County Community College Bookstore; worked for the Sullivan County Department of Social Services in Liberty in the 1980s and was a volunteer for the Help Line of Sullivan County.
In a family statement, it was said, "Mary was committed to family, friends and community. Her capacity for giving was boundless."
She is survived by her husband, Fred Madeo, at home; three children and their spouses, Suzanne and James Witzenburg of Long Island, Karl and Linda Schempp Madeo of Ithaca, and Kevin and Betsy Madeo of Key West, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christopher and his wife, Lisa, Witzenburg, Stefan Witzenburg, Anica Madeo and Bo Madeo; a great-granddaughter, Isabel Witzenburg; a brother, William Wondrasch of St. Charles, Ill.; and a sister, Theresa Mardon of the Bronx. She was predeceased by three brothers and sisters.

James E. Mc Namara of Brooklyn, a retired truck driver for Whale Co. in Brooklyn and formerly of Kauneonga Lake, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Community Hospital in New Port Richey, Fla. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late John and Margaret Moran Mc Namara, he was born April 27, 1930, in Brooklyn.
He was a member of Local 553 in Brooklyn.
Mr. Mc Namara is survived by his wife, Joan Mc Namara of Brooklyn; a son, James Mc Namara Jr. of Liberty; three daughters, Debbie De Vito of Loch Sheldrake, Michelle Dallessandro of Holiday, Fla., and Ann-Marie Hummel of Forestburgh; several brothers and sisters, seven grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Robert.
Funeral services were held at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Kauneonga Lake on Thursday.
Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.
