Florence R. VanDunk
Homemaker, 59

Florence Rose VanDunk of Otisville, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 59 years of age.
The daughter of Rose Mapes DeGroat and the late George DeGroat, she was born June 11, 1941, in Chester. She was the widow of Rudolph James VanDunk Sr.
She is survived by her mother of Cuddebackville; a son, Rudolph James VanDunk Jr. of Otisville; three daughters, Patricia Hall of Queens, Trudy Russell of Roscoe and Rebecca VanDunk of Otisville; two brothers; five sisters; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Christine Epps.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Donovan Funeral Home in Goshen with the Rev. David Kingsley officiating.
Burial will be made in the Hillside Cemetery in Middletown.

Mary V. Bornstein, 99
Ret. Owner Grandview Inn

Mary V. Bornstein, a 13-year resident of Vero Beach, Fla., and the retired owner of the Grandview Inn boarding house in Yulan, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at her home, following an extended illness. She was 99 years of age.
She was born January 6, 1902, in Poland.
Mrs. Bornstein was a Gold Star Mother and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, a member of the Yulan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a benefactor of St. Anthony's Church in Yulan.
She is survived by three sons, Joe Oset of Niagara Falls, Stanley Oset of Jacksonville, Fla., and Chester Oset of Yulan; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Anthony's Church in Yulan with the Rev. Evan Greco officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Eldred.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldred American Legion Post, P.O. Box 63, Eldred, N.Y. 12732.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.

Marion Elkins, 61

Marion Elkins of Middletown died Monday, April 16, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 61 years of age.
The daughter of the late Max and Leah Breslo Elkins, she was born October 25, 1939, in Michigan.
She is survived by many friends at the Rehab Program and the Middletown Park Manor Community.
Friends may call at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Emmet Murphy officiating.
Private burial will be made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

Nicholas W. Houman
Ret. Maintenance Man, 76

Nicholas "Nick" W. Houman of Monticello, a former maintenance man for Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello and a longtime area resident, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 76 years of age.
The son of Jacob and Adelaid Rynerson Houman, he was born May 25, 1924, in Forest City, Pa.
Mr. Houman was a member of the Monticello Fire Department and the Exempt Firemen's Association. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and the Korean War, he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Victory Medal in the latter conflict. He was a member of the Sgt. Andrew Brucher Post No. 5499, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in White Lake.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Rumsey Houman, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Sue Houman of Monticello; two daughters and sons-in-law, June and Edward Brown of Woodbourne and Sue and Pat Curtis of Rock Hill; four grandchildren, Kelly Soller and her husband, Brian, Heather Brown, Kristopher Curtis and Jennifer Houman; two sisters, Elsie Guszick and Rosemarie Degma, both of Forest City, Pa.; three brothers, William Houman of the state of Florida and Jacob and Ronald Houman, both of Monticello; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Houman, and two sisters, Barbara Ann and Theresa.
Services were held Thursday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Robert Hoag officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550 or to the Monticello Fire Department, 8-10 Pleasant St., Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

Irma S. Titus
Retired RN, 80

Irma S. Titus, a former Stroudsburg, Pa., resident and a retired registered nurse, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at the Easton (Pa.) Hospital. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Bertha Tumm Stretz, she was born October 3, 1920, in Binghamton. She was the widow of Francis W. Heery, MD, and Frederick J. Titus.
She did her nurse's trainng at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and held various visiting nurse positions in the area. After moving to Florida, she worked as a realtor for several years. She was a past president of the Stroudsburg (Pa.) Women's Club and was a Grand Master Bridge player.
Mrs. Titus was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rileyville, Pa.
She is survived by three sons, Francis W. Heery Jr., and his wife, Karen, of Sedalia, Colo., James A. Heery and his wife, Patricia, of High Point, N.C., and William J. Heery, and his wife, Mary, of Westport, Conn.; a daughter, Susan Mickley and her husband, Louis, of Bethlehem, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Michael Titus Heery, who died in 1981.
Friends may call at the Thomas Funeral Home, 401 North Fifth St., Stroudsburg, Pa., on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Gunning officiating.
Private burial will be made at the family home in Wayne County, Pa.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, c/o Noreen Manda, P.O. Box 430, Shawnee-on-Delaware, Pa. 18356.

Marjorie Dennison
Homemaker, 58

Marjorie M. Dennison of Monroe, a homemaker and a 30-year area resident, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at her home. She was 58 years of age.
The daughter of the late Percy and Minnie Reinhardt McMahon, she was born November 17, 1942, in Westwood, N.J. She was the widow of Anthony Dennison.
She is survived by four sons, Nelson Howard of Sloatsburg, Timothy Howard of Monroe, Donald Howard of Newburgh and Robert Howard of Middletown; three daughters, Patricia Howard of Newburgh, Michelle DeGroat of Wurtsboro, and Robyn King of Newburgh; three sisters, Audrey Croci of Wurtsboro, Joyce Mann of Mahwah, N.J., and Patricia Humble of Grand Junction, Colo.; a lifetime friend, William H. Mann of Monroe; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Dennis McMahon.
Services were held Wednesday at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Washingtonville with the Rev. Edward Mann officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Dr. Robert E. Knack
Radiologist, 67

Dr. Robert E. Knack of Vestal, a radiologist, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, following a long illness. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Edward and Mary Stewart Knack, he graduated from Jeffersonville Central School in 1951.
The class valedictorian at Albany College of Pharmacy in 1955, he received his medical degree from Albany Medical School in 1959 and completed his residency program in radiology at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He began his career as a radiologist at Lourdes Hospital in 1963.
Dr. Knack was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After becoming board certified in nuclear medicine in 1972, he was director of nuclear medicine in Lourdes Hospital from 1972 to 1998. He was chairman of Riverside Radiology Associates and was a member of the Broome County Medical Society. He was a key player in bringing mammography and state-of-the art technology to the Binghamton area.
In a family statement, it was said, "Dr. Knack was a compassionate, loving man who will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known him."
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Knack, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Lois and Scott Hage of Vestal; a granddaughter, Trisha; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Al Siegel of Detroit, Mich., June Knack of California and Mary Alice and Harvey Coles of Boston, Mass; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Sue Knack of Jeffersonville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services were held at the Allen Memorial Home in Endicott with the Rev. David C. Seaver, Chaplain of Spiritual Care at Lourdes Hospital, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lourdes Hospital Fund, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

Eileen F. Dillon
Homemaker, 90

Eileen F. Dillon of Fallsburg, a homemaker, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 90 years of age.
The daughter of the late Henry and Florence Woodley Winter, she was born March 17, 1911, in Eureka, Calif. She was the widow of Errol E. Dillon.
Mrs. Dillon was a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
She is survived by a son, Patrick Dillon of Fallsburg; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Rommel, Kim McCullay and Siddartha Dillon; a great-granddaughter, Sydney Williams and a former daughter-in-law, Marguerite Chandler. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Breeden and Marjorie Ray.
Services were held Wednesday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello.
Burial will be made in Ocean View Cemetery in Eureka, Calif.

Lois H. Phillips
Homemaker, 96

Lois Hutchinson Phillips of Rochester, a homemaker, died Saturday, March 31, 2001. She was 96 years of age.
The daughter of the late George A. and Jennie L. Main Hutchinson, she was born March 4, 1905, in Ferndale. She was the widow of Chester Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was a former member of the Harris Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Beverly A. Kinde; three grandchildren, Gwynne Phillips-O'Marra, James Phillips and his wife, Kim, and Stephen Phillips and his wife, Vickie; two great-grandchildren; Shamus and Timothy O'Marra; and several nieces and cousins.
Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
