Ret. Med. Secy., 84
Josephine R. Reis of Claryville, a retired medical secretary and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 84 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Victoria Gorlik Zawislak, she was born November 20, 1916, in Gowanda. She was the widow of Woodrow W. Reis.
A former resident of Middletown and Newburgh, she had been a 21-year employee of Highland Hospital in Beacon before retiring.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Bruning of Claryville; and a grandson, Patrick Cunningham of Morristown, N.J. She was predeceased by a son, Roger Reis, a brother, Edward Zawislak and a sister, Victoria Rutkowski.
Graveside services and burial were held Saturday at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh with the Rev. William Scafidi officiating.

Madeline Martibello Bonanza
Retired Nurse, 83
Madeline Martibello Bonanza of Lake Huntington, died on Sunday, October 16, 2004 at Robert Woods Hospital, in New Brunswick, NJ. She was 83.
The daughter of the late Salvatore and Frances Catapano Furino, she was born November 28, 1920 in Brooklyn, N.Y. After having worked as a nurse at Wycoff Heights Hospital for over 20 years, Madeline moved to Lake Huntington where she was a resident for more than 30 years.
Madeline was a member of the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance and a member of the Catholic Daughters.
Survivors include her husband Frank, at home; three children, Rose Bonanxa DiMartino, of Willmington, NC, Frances Failla of Sugarmill Woods, FL and Thomas and his wife Stella, of Cochecton; two sisters, Nancy Perello, of Queens and Josephine Forenco of Loing Isalnd; two brothers, Salvatore Furino of State Island and Frank Furino of Cochecton, seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Bonanza; two sisters, Anna Furino and Julia Rottuno; and by two brothers, Louis Furino and Fred Furino.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 20, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rasumussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church in Narrowsburg.
Entombment will follow in St. John Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens.

Nancy P. Harris
Ret. Telephone Worker, 75
Nancy P. Harris, of Ballston Spa, N.Y. died on Friday, October 15, at Saratoga Hospital, in Saratoga Springs. She was 75.
Born on November 22, 1928 in Saratoga Springs, she was the daughter of the late Grace and Kenneth Potter. She was a graduate of the Ballston Spa High School.
Mrs. Harris worked for New York Telephone in Monticello for several years and later lived in Missouri and New Jersey before moving to Ballston Spa in 1984. She was an avid reader and enjoyed attending theatrical and musical performances, traveling, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Albert J. Harris; three sons, Daniel Harris and his wife, Julie of Saratoga Springs; John Harris of Wauconda, Illinois; and Marin Harris and his wife, Sharon, of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Jessica Harris of Rome, Italy; and Lily and Sam Harris of Charlotte, North Carolina; one brother, Kenneth (Sam) Potter of Saratoga Lake; four sisters, Sarah Welch, of Burnt Hills; Ann Woodruff, of Saratoga Springs; Elizabeth Bernon, of Ballston Spa; and Patricia Higgins, of Florida; as well as several neices and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, October 18, at the Armer Funeral Home in Ballston Spa. Burial will be in the Powell Wiswall Cemetery, in Ballston Spa, at a later date.

Richard Krongel
Ret. Baker, 88
Richard "Dick" Krongel died Friday, October 15, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. A seventy year area resident, Richard resided in Kohlertown with Dorothy, his wife of 61 years. He was 88.
He was born April 8, 1916 in New York City, the son of Alex and Bessie Frost Krongel. For many years, he was associated with Krongel and Sons Bakery in both Callicoon and Jeffersonville. He later founded the Krongel Agency, an insurance and real estate firm, which he operated with his wife before retiring in 1983.
A World War II Army veteran with service in the Aleutian Islands and in the Pacific Northwest, he was a founding member of the H. Russell Kenyon VFW Post 5808, Callicoon, N.Y. Additionally, he was chair of the community American Heart Association Fund Drive for many years, a past president and member of the Sullivan County Board of Realtos, and a member of the Jeffersonville Synagogue.
A family statement noted, " Whatever Dad did, he did with gusto. He was an enthusiastic photographers, an avid gardener and baker. Sharing his bounty with friends and family was as important to him as production itself. Above all, he was a devoted family man. His steady hand and wise counsel will be missed by all who knew and loved him."
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara and her husband, EC Hamilton; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kathy Krongel of Newton, Ma. as well as two grandchildren, Allison and David Krongel; his sister, Annette Tofield, of Anaheim, Ca.,; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Irving and sister-in-law, Sophie Krongel, as well as his brother-in-law Aaron Tofield and his beloved nephew, Jeffrey Krongel.
Family and friends were able to call from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Monday, October 18, 2004 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Main Street, Jeffersonville. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial was made in the Jeffersonville Synagogue Cemetery on Route 52 between Youngsville and Jeffersonville.

William "Bill" Kelly
Plant Engineer for NY Telephone, 71
William "Bill" Kelly of Sarasota, Fl., an outside plant engineer for New York Telephone Co., died Friday, September 10, 2004. He was 71.
He was born on June 25, 1933 in the Bronx. He moved from Grahamsville in 1999 to Sarasota, Fl. He was in the USMC in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Sarasota, Fl.
His survivors include a wife, Bonnie of Sarasota, a daughter, Lori Wadeson of Georgia, three sons William A. Kelly of Ohio, Steven F. Kelly of Virginia and Craig A. Kelly of Maryland, two sisters Betty Duerr of New York and Helen Kelly of Massachusetts, a brother Ed Kelly of New York, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2004 at Palms Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fl. from 6 to 8 p.m.. Services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church of Sarasota, Fl. Burial will be after the services at Palms Memorial Park.

Arthur Friedman
Ret. Shop Owner, 73
Arthur Friedman was a lifetime resident of the Grossinger Resort in Liberty. He was the retired owner/operator of the Mon Ami Shop at the former Grossingers Resort in Liberty. He died on Friday, October 15, 2004 in the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 73.
He was a veteran serving in the Army during the Korea War. He was born in Liberty on November 30, 1930 to Abraham Friedman and Rose Grossinger. He was an avid golfer and lover of the game. He was a past member of the Liberty ELKS lodge and the Liberty Lions Club. He was the only Grossinger still living on the resort property in Liberty. He grew up at the Grossinger Resort not only with his parents but his Aunt Jenny and Uncle Harry Grossinger and his cousins Paul Grossinger and Elaine Grossinger-Etess.
He is survived by his wife Renee Levine Friedman at home; his son Robert Friedman and his wife Kelly of Horsham, Pa.; his daughter Randi Ceneviva and her husband Kevin; his grandson Dominic Alexander Ceneviva; as well as several cousins; and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Congregation Ahavath Israel Synagogue on Chestnut Street in Liberty. Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiated.
Burial was made in the Ahavath Israel Cemetery on Ha-San-Na Road in Liberty.
The family will be observing Shiva at the family home at the Grossinger Resort from Sunday, October 17 through Tuesday, October 19.
Sarah Bresky Findling
Homemaker, 89
Sarah (Sally) Bresky Findling, an 80 plus year resident of South Fallsburg, died on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 89.
The daughter of the late Yetta and Jacob Bresky, she was born on November 15, 1914 in Wishnewa, Poland.
She was a longtime member of the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, a Life Member of Hadasah, and a longtime member of the American Contract Bridge League, also an avid Bridge player all of her adult life, achieving the highest possible status, that of Life Gold Master.
She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Samuel R. (Bob) Findling at home in South Fallsburg, her sons, Alan Findling of South Fallsburg, Harvey Findling and his wife, Lynn of Mountaindale and Leonard L. Findling and his wife, Gale of Woodridge; his grandchildren, Minday Findling-Repko and her husband, Jan of Delray Beach, FL, Daniel Findling and his wife, Lenora of South Fallsburg, Marc Findling and his wife, Michelle of Irvington, Stephanie Findling Gitnik and her husband, Brian of Port Chester and Fillip Findling of North Woodmere; and her great-grandchildren, Candice (Nicki) Findling, Brianna E. Gitnik and Jillian S. Findling, and her great-great-grandson, Jerimiah Findling and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Benjamin Bresky, her sister Sylvia Bresky-Feldman and her daughter-in-law, Joanne Findling.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 17, 2004 in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. on 388 Broadway in Monticello. Rabbi Isaac Gottlieb officiated. Interment will be in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery in Glen Wild.
The family will be sitting Shiva at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Findling, 36 Krieger Boulevard, Woodridge from Sunday, October 17 through Tuesday evening October 19, 2004.

Jerome Pichert
Ret. Engineer, 89
Jerome "Uncle Jerry" Pichert of Glen Spey, a longtime area resident, and a retired electronics engineer, died Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at Elant Nursing Home in Goshen. He was 89.
"Uncle Jerry", as his friends called him, was the son of the late Jerome and Rose Mazac Pichert, and was born on February 10, 1915 in London, England. He arrived at Ellis Island at only 47 days old.
His father was a custom ladies tailor and managing editor of a Czech monthly magazine, "The Astorian". His family lived in New York City for 3 years and then the next 18 years they resided in Astoria, Queens. At the age of 5, he was involved in the Delnicky Americky Sokol, Astoria branch, a Czech cultural and gymnastic organization. At age 18, he was their recording secretary, keeping the minutes in the Czesky language. He was also a lifetime member. He attended Bryant High School in Long Island City. His higher education was obtained at Bridgeport Engineering Institute, an evening college in Bridgeport, CT.
In 1936, he took a position with Machlett Laboratories in Springdale, CT as a product development engineer. A position he held for 20 years. He was a veteran member of the Springdale Volunteer Fire Co., having held the position of secretary and president. He was also active in the suburban Stamford Kiwanis Club, also holding the office of president.
In 1956 he moved his family to Centerport, Long Island for a position with Amprex Electronic Corp., x-ray division which is a subsidiary of North American Phillips Co. While there he was credited with several patents in the x-ray vacuum tube field.
Since 1945 and before it was incorporated, he was an active member of the Lumberland Fire Company. He served Lumberland on several boards in particular as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for 10 years. A member of the Lumberland Lions Club, serving as vice president in 2002, he received the prestigious citation of Lion of the Year for 2003. he was a longtime member of the Buckeye Hinting Club. he enjoyed hunting, gardening and travel. He traveled extensively throughout his retirement through western Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He also visited the island of Tahiti.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Pichert, at home; a son, Jerome Wayne Pichert and his wife, Laurie, of St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, Alexandra Rose Pichert, Matthew Dylan Pichert, and Chirstian Thomas Pichert, all of St. Paul, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Bellmont and his sister, Bertha Kudola.
The Lumberland Lions conducted services on Saturday, October 16, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home on 154 E. Main Street in Port Jervis. The Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst officiated.
Burial was in the Glen Spey Cemetery.
