Charlene Faitell of Monticello, a distribution supervisor for the Times-Herald Record in Middletown, died of injuries sustained in a vehicular accident on Saturday, May 26, 2001, in Monticello. She was 49 years of age.
The daughter of Bennett and Hilde Rissel Bernstein, she was born December 30, 1951, in Germany.
She is survived by a son, Michael Faitell and a daughter, Megan Faitell, both at home; her father of Swift Water, Pa., her mother of Wantagh; a sister and brother-in-law, Sheryl and Paul Manz of Monticello; and two nieces.
Services were held Wednesday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Irwin A. Tanenbaum officiating.
Burial was made in the Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello.

Alice M. Wetmore
Ret. Seamstress, 83
Alice M. Wetmore of Port Jervis, a retired seamstress for LO-Ree Inc., in Otisville, and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at St. Teresa's Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles and Helen Roof Mosher, she was born July 14, 1917, in Roscoe. She was the widow of George Wetmore.
Mrs. Wetmore was a member of the Wurtsboro United Methodist Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wurtsboro Fire Department.
She is survived by a son, William Wetmore of Wurtsboro; three daughters, Helen Cannon of Newburgh, Dorothy Kallas of Sparrowbush and Patricia Kelly-Crawford of New Vernon, Ind.; a sister, Lillian DePuy of Kerhonkson; a brother, Roland Towne of Greenfield Park; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, William Kelly; a sister, Anna Ortiz; and a brother, Earl Mosher.
Services and interment were private.

Judith M. Schacht
Ret. Businesswoman, 82
Judith "Judy" Schacht of Boulder, Colo., a former Monticello resident, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Simon and Anna Glaser, she was born April 17, 1919, in Philadelphia, Pa. She was the widow of Ben Schacht.
After graduating from Monticello High School in 1936, she worked as a telephone operator. She and her late husband were the founders and owners, for more than 25 years, of Men's World and Boys' Town which was at the time one of Monticello's premier retail clothing stores. After moving to Colorado in 1974, Judy was an avid world traveler and active in various charitable work.
Mrs. Schacht was active in the Ileitis Foundation and the Boulder Library Home Book Program. She enjoyed sewing and handweaving and was a member of the hand-weaver's guild of Boulder, Colo.
She is survived by three children, Renee Yablon and her husband, Michael, of Loveland, Ohio, Barry Schacht and his wife, Jane Patrick, and Daniel Schacht, all of Boulder, Colo.; and five grandchildren, Kirsten Yablon of Chicago, Ill., Joshua Yablon of Minneapolis, Minn., Nora Schacht and Sydney and Celia Schacht, all of Boulder, Colo.

Allen James Herbert Doolittle of Middletown, a building service employee at Orange County Community College and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, in the Town of Wallkill. He was 21 years of age.
The son of Timothy Doolittle and Cheryl Ashley DeGroat, he was born March 7, 1980, in Middletown.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Doolittle is survived by his mother and step-father, Cheryl and Sid DeGroat of Monticello; his father and step-mother, Timothy and Cherie Doolittle of Middletown; a sister, Rebecca Ashley of Middletown; four brothers, Timothy Doolittle, Matthew Doolittle and Anthony Doolittle, all of Middletown, and Brad DeGroat of Monticello; his maternal grandmother, Sylvia Ashley of Cooperstown; his paternal grandparents, Paul and Joan Doolittle of Middletown; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held Thursday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home in Middletown.
Burial was made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Phillipsburg.
Mildred G. Heck
Homemaker, 96
Mildred G. Heck of Montgomery, a longtime area resident and a homemaker, died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the home of her longtime friend, Astrid Mans in Montgomery. She was 96 years of age.
The daughter of the late George and Jean Nelson, she was born November 10, 1904, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Fred Heck.
The late Mr. and Mrs. Heck, and their son, the late Frederick J. Heck, owned the Knickerbocker Pony Track in Closter, NJ., and raised horses in Montgomery. They raced at Monticello Raceway and other area tracks.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Francesca Heck of Montgomery; three grandchildren, Brenda Messenger of Monticello, Frederick J. "Rick" Heck Jr. of Maybrook, and Susan-Ann Ponesse of Montgomery; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the son mentioned above; a daughter, Barbara Heck Nasuto; a sister, Ida Bonistalli; and two grandchildren, Anthony Nasuto Jr. and Michal J. Heck.
Services were private.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
George Slater Sr.
Ret. Dairy Farmer, 79
George L. Slater Sr. of Kenoza Lake, a retired dairy farmer and lifelong area resident, died Friday, May 25, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late David and Margaret Shuman Slater, he was born January 10, 1922, in Jeffersonville.
Mr. Slater was a 39-year member of the Kenoza Lake Fire Department and served as chief for 10 years, commissioner for 25 years and chairman of the commissioners for four years. He was also a member of the Eastern Milk Producers Co-op., a delegate to the Eastern Breeders Association and to the Dairymen's League. He served as a committeeman for the Sullivan County Soil and Water Conservation District, was a member of Bear Tree Hunting Club and a member of the defunct Hortonville Grange.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Gabel Slater, at home; two sons, George Jr. and his wife Melissa Slater of Kenoza Lake, and David Slater of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Margaret Slater and her companion, Roland Besimer of Bethel; two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Christopher Slater of Kenoza Lake; two sisters, Beatrice Koberlein and her husband, Arthur, of Beach Lake, Pa., and Martha Terwilliger of Cochecton. He was predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Egbert Slater, and a sister, Inez Gabriel.
Services were held Monday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. William Hagerty officiating.
Burial was made in the Bauernfeind Cemetery in Callicoon.

William A. Feiler
Tool & Die Maker, 58
William August Feiler of Dover-Foxcroft, Me., and a former resident of Milanville, Pa., died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 58 years of age.
The son of the late William Karl and Bertha Bohner Feiler, he was born February 14, 1943, in Jersey City, N.J.
Upon graduation from Fort Lee High School in 1961, he served as an apprentice in his father's machine shop, Metro Mfg., in North Bergen, N.J., a company chosen to produce parts for Telstar, the first satellite launched by NASA capable of cross-ocean relay.
He and his wife moved to their Milanville country home (which he built) and he continued tool and die making. In 1975 he started his own machine shop as his father and grandfather had done before him.
Mr. Feiler was an avid sportsman and angler and had tested his ability throughout the United States, Canada, the Bahamas and Africa. He was well noted for his turkey-calling abilities and was always willing to show "how it's done." Always one to take on a challenge, Mr. Feiler succeeded in growing warm climate hard-shelled gourds in the cold climate of Maine which he and his wife turned into ornately decorated lamps, bowls and birdhouses. They were also avid gardeners and shared their harvest.
Mr. Feiler was a member of Buck Run Archery Club, Pip-Inn Sporting Clays Club, a past trustee of Piscataquis Valley Snowmobile Club, and a member of Delaware Lodge #561, Free and Accepted Masons, in Callicoon.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Davis Feiler, at home; two daughters, Andrea Lynn Feiler of Phoenix, Ariz., and Erica Loraine Miller of Milanville, Pa.; a son, William Frank Feiler of Groton, Conn.; a grandson, William James Miller; a sister, Eleanor Bertha Crum of Milanville, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the family home in Maine on May 20 with the Rev. Kenneth Dale officiating.
A memorial celebration of his life will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at the Central House in Beach Lake, Pa.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 5, in Ellenville for Sylvia Deutsch, a retired bookkeeper and secretary in her late husband's business, All Phase Electric Co., former 40-year resident of Liberty, and a resident at the Nesconset Nursing Center in Long Island. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Sam and Anna Pressman Nathanson, Mrs. Deutsch was born March 17, 1913, in Dubno, Russia. She was the widow of Bernard Deutsch who died in 1990.
She lived in Russia during the hectic, historic times until the start of the Russian Revolution. Unable to emigrate until seven years after her father's trip to the United States, because of World War I, she and her mother made the arduous journey in 1917.
After graduating high school, she moved during the depression years with her family from the Bronx to Monticello where her mother operated a rooming house for summer vacationers and her father owned a tailor business. After living in Ferndale and Swan Lake, she settled in Liberty in 1945 and remained there until moving to Long Island in 1985.
She is survived by four children, Ronald Deutsch of Mendocino, Calif., Elaine Maibaum of El Cerrito, Calif., Dale Deutsch of Stony Brook and Barry Deutsch of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Anthony of Amsterdam, Netherlands, and Christopher of Davis, Calif.; and two sisters, Estelle Salberg of Van Nuys, Calif., and Beatrice Eisman of San Francisco, Calif.
Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum will officiate at the June 10 memorial service to be held at the Nevele Grand Resort in Ellenville and an unveiling ceremony which will be held at the Workmen's Circle Cemetery in Ellenville.

Pearl G. Howard of Middletown, a retired housekeeping supervisor at the Middletown Psychiatric Center and a lifetime area resident, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the Orange County Residential Healthcare Center in Goshen. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles Edgar and Georgianna Hayes Baird, she was born February 23, 1915, on the Laura Mullock Farm in the Town of Mount Hope.
In a family statement, it was said, "Even in pain she was able to make people laugh! At a recent admissions in-take, she was asked about the happiest time in her life, she replied, "When I got a divorce and spent a month in Hawaii." Asked if she spoke a foreign language, she said, "No! But I cuss and swear once in a while."
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Eleanor Howard of Bloomingburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beatrice and John Smith of Goshen and Edna and Edward Machnicki of Middletown; seven grandchildren, Laurie Traverse and her husband, Blace, Kevin A. Goes of Middletown, William Charles Monaco and his wife, Gabriella of Coburg, Germany, Carol Ann Allen of Westminster, Colo., Georgianna Schurr and her husband of Maryland, Donna Iorico and her husband, Jason, John Rivera and his wife, Susan, and Louis Rivera and his wife, Jeanine; nine great-grandchildren, Erich Traverse, Kevin Goes Jr., Monica Yu Goes, Andrea Traverse, Kelsey, Nicholas and Brianna Rivera, and Kaycee and Carmen Iorio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her weekly phone calls and letters will be sorely missed by her lifelong friend, Carrie Reynolds, and "special cousins" Charles Hayes, Audry Rich, Beatrice Dougherty and special friend, Jack. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Brenda Eun Sun Goes who died in November of 1999.
Services were held Tuesday at the Morse Funeral Home in Middletown with the Rev. Virginia Hoch officiating.
Burial was made in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Middletown.
