Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Totten of White Sulphur Springs, a lifelong area resident and a fiscal administrator for the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 48 years of age.
The daughter of Mary Kelly Rowan Durkin and the late Thomas Rowan Sr., she was born September 5, 1953, in Monticello.
Mrs. Totten was an active member of her community, a member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Liberty Indian Booster Club and the Thursday Night Ladies Bowling League at Liberty Lanes.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Thomas Totten, at home; her mother of Callicoon Center; a son, Thomas Totten Jr. of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Erica Lyn Totten of Goshen; five brothers, Thomas Rowan of Yonkers, Anthony Durkin of Callicoon Center, John Durkin of Mt. Vernon, Robert Rowan of Cooks Falls and Walter Durkin Jr. of Gastonia, N.C.; four sisters, Mary Quinn of Montgomery, Pat Durkin of Callicoon Center, Carolyn Bivins of Willowemoc and Evelyn Ruppert of Kenoza Lake; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by her step-father, Walter Durkin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.

Max H. Otto, 93
Ret. Farmer/Machinist
Max H. Otto of Shohola, Pa., died Tuesday, October 2, 2001, at the Twin Cedars Assisted Living Center in Shohola, Pa. He was 93 years of age.
The son of the late Richard Otto and Jenny Fuchs Otto, he was born August 7, 1908, in Dresden, Germany. He was the widower of Leona Kelb Otto who died in 1999.
A retired farmer and a retired machinist, he worked at Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis. Mr. Otto was a member of the Milford Hiking Club in Milford, Pa., and a member of the former Raymondskill Grange.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bruce Harding of Shohola, Pa.; two grandchildren, Linette of Shohola, Pa., and Jonathan of Barryville; a niece and a nephew.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Stroyan Funeral Home in Milford with the Rev. Donald Coy and Rev. Douglas Lee officiating.
Interment will be made in the German Hill Cemetery in Shohola, Pa.
Francis J. Feely

Francis "Frank" J. Feely of Middletown, a vice president for Marsh and McLennan, has been missing since Tuesday, September 11, 2001, in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York. He was 41 years of age.
The son of Francis J. and Patricia Walker Feely, he was born September 25, 1959, in Brooklyn.
A 13-year resident of the Middletown area, he was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Otisville.
Mr. Feely is survived by his wife, Lori Nelson Feely, and four daughters, Jennifer, Lauren, Stephanie and Caitlin, all at home; his parents of Middletown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Denise Feely of Winterton and Stephen and Donna Feely of Kiamesha Lake; a sister, Alice Feely and her partner, Shelly Zabrowsky of Brooklyn; many dear cousins; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Otisville with Father John Lundberg officiating.

George Smith
Ret. Farm Worker, 81
George Smith of Goshen, a retired farm worker, died Tuesday, September 25, 2001, at the Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late George and Louise Palmer Smith, he was born May 10, 1920, in Poughkeepsie.
Mr. Smith is survived by many friends and the staff at the Orange County Residential Health Care Center in Goshen.
A Funeral of Remembrance was held Monday at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown.
Interment was made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.
John Harlan Race
Ret. Safety Insp., 72
John Harlan Race of Beach Lake, Pa., a retired safety inspector for OSHA and an area resident since 1962, died Saturday, September 29, 2001, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late William and Ruth Noble Race, he was born March 18, 1929, in Canton.
Mr. Race was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was also a member of Livingston Manor Lodge #791, F.&A.M., the Narrowsburg Fire Department, a former Town of Tusten constable, a former Town of Tusten Dog Warden and a former hunter safety instructor.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Race, at home; three children, Joyce Scherer of Lockport, Karen Pelkey of Lakeland, Fla., and Ronald Ness of Lewisburg, W. Va.; three sisters, Ilene Friot, Ruby Gates and Sharon Parshley; two brothers, Mike Race and Gilbert Race; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday evening with the Rev. George Gallandorn officiating.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Painter, 37
Mark D. Brown of Forestburgh, a self-employed painter and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. He was 37 years of age.
The son of Edna LeClaire Cheyne and the late Ivan Brown, he was born September 19, 1963, in Newburgh.
He was an avid fisherman.
Mr. Brown is survived by his mother and step-father, Edna and Ray Cheyne of Walden; a daughter, Vanessa Beth of Monroe; his soul mate, Glen Slapo, at home; three sisters, Kathie Spignardo and her husband, Frank, of Newburgh, and Rosa Lynn Brown and Marlena Brown, both of Goshen; seven brothers, Ivan Brown Jr. of Pennsylvania, Robert Brown and his wife, Debbie, of Moyock, N.C., William Brown and his wife, Sis, of Florida, N.Y., Richard Brown of Newburgh, Keith Cheyne and his wife, Diane, of Liverpool, Guy Cheyne and his wife, Debbie, of Baldwinsville, and Brian Cheyne of Maybrook; his stepmother, Ruth Brown of Goshen; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Sunday at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown
A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Church of the Assumption in Maybrook.
Interment was private.

Harold E. Roosa of Ferndale, a retired front doorman at the Concord Hotel in Kiamesha Lake, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his home. He was 48 years of age.
The son of Everett "Strech" Roosa and the late Florence McGuire Roosa, he was born January 12, 1953, in Liberty.
He is survived by his father of Ferndale; his wife, Marie Smith Roosa, at home; a step-daughter, Melissa Burns of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Patricia DeJes and her husband, Henry, of Liberty; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Renee Roosa of Knoxville, Tenn., and Michael and Donna Roosa of Youngsville; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at the Roosa home in Ferndale on Saturday.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Victor G. Toscarelli
Electronics Repairman, 49
Victor G. Toscarelli of Wurtsboro, a skilled electronics repair serviceman, an excellent computer technician and a 15-year area resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, He was 49 years of age.
He was born June 23, 1951, in Brooklyn.
An exceptional songwriter, composer and performing musician, he held a Ph.D in Computer Technology.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a father figure to all that knew him well. He will always remain a part of us in our hearts, as well as our spirits. Remembrance of his personality, skills and his musical abilities will enchant us for the rest of our lives. Weep not for him, for the memories of his smile and his voice shall carry us to the edges of the earth with happiness."
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy, and a son, Michael J.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St., Wurtsboro.

Ret. Floor Lady, 89
Catherine Riebow, a retired floor lady for Berger Machine Co. in Maspeth and a former longtime resident of Queens, died on Sunday, June 24, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Peter and Rose Bittenbinder Niesz, she was born April 12, 1912, in Elizabeth, N.J. She was the widow of Bernard Riebow who died in 1971.
Mrs. Riebow was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
She is survived by a son, Richard Riebow of Queensbury; three daughters, Frances Herman of Neversink, Ann Levine of Centereach and Catherine "Cookie" Uettwiller of Lindenhurst; two sisters, Anna Salverson of Maspeth, Queens, and Alice Hansen of Goshen; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Peter Neisz and William Niesz, and a sister, Barbara Rellinder.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. with the Revs. Richard and Kathy Ienuso officiating.
