Timothy L. Dobell
Fuel Oil Delivery Driver, 52

Timothy L. Dobell of Bethel, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 52.
The son of Reuben and Agnes Hamilton Dobell, he was born September 14, 1954 in Livingston Manor. He was the widower of Marlene Smith Dobell.
Mr. Dobell was a fuel oil delivery driver for County Petroleum.
He is survived by a daughter, Heather Dobell, and a son, Adam Dobell, both at home; a stepfather, John Jost of Livingston Manor; one sister, Gige Dobell of Missouri; three brothers-in-law, Andrew Smith and his wife Linda of Cochecton, Franklyn "Randy" Smith and his companion Patricia Collins of Rochester and Matthew "Sam" Smith and his wife Dena of Bethel; one grandson, Nathan Henry Dobell; and nieces and nephews, Albert, Megan, Douglas and Jeremy Smith.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corps, White Lake, NY 12786.

Marianne Garn
Homemaker, 83

Marianne Garn, formerly of Monticello, died Sat., Dec. 30, 2006 in Sarasota, Fla. She was 83.
She was born August 21, 1923 in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Isabel Ferguson.
She was a graduate of Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth H. Garn, her sister, Susan; and brother-in-law, Ralph Howard of Washington, D.C.; her daughter, Lisa DeMaria of New York City; and son, K.C. Garn of Lake Huntington. She is also survived by her grandsons, Andrew, Christopher, Luke and Matthew DeMaria and Kienan Garn.
A memorial service was held Wednesday at Pine Shores Presbyterian Church, Sarasota, Fla.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Arthritis Foundation, 501 Village Green Parkway, Suite 5, Bradenton, FL 34209.

Dean C. Brown
Retired Deputy Sheriff, 54

Dean C. Brown of Burlingham, a 30-year area resident, died Dec. 20, 2006 at home. He was 54.
The son of the late Charles L. Brown and Florence Stanley Brown, he was born February 3, 1952 in Yonkers.
He was a retired Deputy Sheriff for the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department.
Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Klemm Brown, at home; two daughters, Lisa Brown Nauta and her husband Jason of Middletown, and Leslie Brown of Harriman; and one sister, Suzanne Brown Ward of California. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Glenn G. Brown.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Albert L. Mydosh
Proprietor, 86

Albert L. Mydosh Sr. of Otisville, a lifelong area resident, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at ORMC - Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 86.
The son of George and Mary Cichon Mydosh, he was born January 28, 1920 in Sussex, NJ. He was the widower of Mary Congiolosi Mydosh who passed away April 10, 1996.
Albert was retired from Mydosh and Sons Septic Service which he established in the late 1940s in Otisville. He was a member of Holy Name Church in Otisville.
A family statement said, “He was a loving father and grandfather and was always there to help a family member or friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.”
He is survived by four sons, Albert Mydosh Jr. and his wife Nancy of Middletown, Frank Mydosh and his wife Joyce of Otisville, Tom Mydosh and his wife Tammy of Otisville and George Mydosh and his wife Lorena of Cuddebackville; three daughters, Helen Ryan and husband Vince of Bloomingburg, Maime Mydosh of Vernon, Fla. and Patricia Williams of Vernon, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, Teresa Collins, Alex Mydosh, Helen Felice, Vince Ryan, Daniel Ryan, John Ryan, Rita York, Raymond Davis, Amanda Mydosh, Cindy Marker, John Williams, Brittany Williams, Angelina Mydosh, Tina Mydosh, MaryEllen Mydosh, Jennifer Mydosh and Tommie Mydosh; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, Congiolosi Mydosh; sisters, Katie Wisneski, Rosie Shuback, Anna Lysogarski, Frances Weeden and Mary Omiski; brothers, John Mydosh, Chester Mydosh, Joseph Mydosh, Frank Mydosh and Walter Mydosh; son-in-law, John Williams; grandson, Steve Williams; and granddaughter, Brittany Bedford.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Name Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville. Father Peter Tran Van Phat will officiate.
Interment will be made in Holy Name Cemetery, Otisville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Name Church, P.O. Box 597, Otisville, NY 10963 or to the charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements are by Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, Middletown.

Dorothy Miller
Retired Tele. Operator, 81

Dorothy Miller of Middletown, a 40-year area resident, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006 at ORMC - Horton Campus, Middletown. She was 81.
The daughter of Cooney Martinez and Lydia Haley Martinez, she was born March 30, 1925 in New Orleans, La. She was the widow of the late Jack Miller.
Dorothy was a retired telephone operator for General Telephone in Middletown. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Middletown and the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
She was a loving mother and best friend. She always thought about her children.
She is survived by her four sons, Henry Miller and his wife Yolanda of Canyon Lake, Tex., Anthony Miller of Los Angeles, Calif., Harry Miller of Middletown, and Robert Miller of Otisville; one daughter, Ida Miller of Bloomingburg; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Miller; a son, Jack Miller Jr.; and six siblings.
A Funeral Mass was offered Thursday at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Cottage Street, Middletown. Interment was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Middletown. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home.

James M. Garland
Process Engineer, 59

James M. Garland of Middletown died unexpectedly Monday, January 1, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton. He was 59.
Born in Port Jervis on March 10, 1947, he was the son of Edward J. and Kathryn Worden Garland.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a 1st Class Petty Officer aboard the USS Midway CVA-41 during the Vietnam War.
He was a graduate of Orange County Community College, Mount St. Mary's and RPI, where he received two Master’s of Science degrees.
He was employed as an Advisory Process Engineer for IBM, East Fishkill, where he invented a method of resizing sintered ceramic subtrates. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of BPOE Lodge #1097, Middletown.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Maureen A. Provost Garland, at home; three brothers, Edward Garland and his wife Patricia of Cottekill; Patrick Garland and his wife Darlene, Daniel Garland, and Stephen Garland and his wife Tami, all of Middletown; three sisters, Kathleen and her husband Randy VanKeuren of Coconut Beach, Fla., Alice and her husband Anthony Belfiglio of Middletown, and Maryann and her husband John Ramm of Aneheim, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Ann Marie and her husband, Michael Davis, and Patricia and her husband, Roger Smith, of New Mexico; two brothers-in-law, Larry Provost and his wife, LouAnn, of Fallsburg and Frank Provost and his wife, Melanie, of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Morse Funeral Home, 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown, with Elk services at 7:30 p.m. and prayer service at 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Middletown.
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown.

Rose Garfinkel
Former Hotel Owner, 91

Rose Garfinkel of Liberty, a former owner and operator of the New Edgewood Hotel in Loch Sheldrake, with her late husband, Joseph, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 91.
Rose was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of Samuel and Anna Aronowitz Karlitz.
Rose was a member of the Hurleyville Synagogue, a 27-year member of the CRMC Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer who was very dedicated to the hospital and put in numerous hours during the year. She was a very active participant in the Senior Companion Program and the Office for the Aging’s R&SVP Program.
She is survived by her son, Gerald Garfinkel and his wife Doris of Chevy Chase, Md.; her daughter, Sheila Lashinsky of Monticello; two sisters, Helen Russin and her husband Irving and Tess Dreyfack and her husband Raymond, all of Coconut Creek, Fla.; a brother, Irving Karlitz of Hallandale, Fla.; five granddaughters, Elizabeth, Mindy, Sarah, Rebecca and Johanna; and five great-granddaughters, Chelsea, Rachel, Megan, Jessica and Sierra; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiated.
Burial was made in the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery.
Shiva will be observed at the home of Sheila Lashinsky in Monticello until Sunday.
Donations in memory of Rose may be made to the CRMC Hospital Auxiliary, Harris, NY 12742 or to Landfield Avenue Synagogue or the Mitzvah Fund of Landfield Avenue Synagogue, Monticello, NY 12701.

Sharon Lee Clark

A memorial service for Sharon Lee Clark, 47, formerly of Pond Eddy, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main Street, Port Jervis. The Rev. Paul Wells will officiate.
Burial will be made in the Glen Spey Cemetery in Glen Spey.

Jose Alfredo Rivera Sr.
Ret. Carpenter, 78

Jose Rivera Sr., a 34-year resident of Jeffersonville and a carpenter, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Raphaelo E. and Alexandria Arroyo Rivera, he was born August 11, 1922, in Puerto Rico. He was the widower of Antonia Ortiz Rivera.
He is survived by a daughter, Margaret Rivera Harris of Wallington, N.J.; two sons, Enrico Rivera of Midland, Tex., and Jose Alfredo Rivera Jr. of Callicoon; two sisters, Noemi Mora of Puerto Rico and Alba Colon of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Dialysis Society, Monticello, N.Y. 12701.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonvile.
