Retired Waitress, 81
Evelyn Santangelo of Roscoe, formerly of White Lake, a retired waitress and longtime area resident, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe. She was 81.
The daughter of the late Eldwood and Gertrude Muranie Cross, she was born October 6, 1925 in Mountaindale.
Evelyn had worked at the Red Coach Diner in Westwood, N.J. and later at Gager’s Diner in Monticello.
Survivors include her sister, Versa Amback and her husband James of Roscoe; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Ellenor Fletcher; two brothers, Jacob E. Croiss and Bernard Brown; a stepsister, Bernice; and a stepbrother, Floyd Eggleton.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 7 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening, February 7, at 8 p.m., in the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Guice will officiate.
Private burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Bethel.

Shaun Baker
U.S. Air Force Master Sgt., 43
Master Sergeant Shaun Baker, an Air Force Master Instructor and Senior Maintenance Manager on F-16 aircraft, died January 28, 2007 of complications from heart and kidney failure in his home in Phoenix, Ariz.
A native of Livingston Manor, he enlisted at 19 in the U.S. Air Force. His 23-year career took him to many countries. After basic training he was assigned to Hill Air Force Base, Utah, as an F-16 Integrated Avionics Communication, Navigation and Penetration Aids System Specialist.
He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal four times and the Air Force Achievement Medal. He was a kind, gentle and generous man who always took the time to help a person in need.
He always loved the outdoors and enjoyed the freedom to go where he wanted and do what he wanted. He was an avid gun enthusiast reloading his own ammunition and never missed a change to go out in the dessert and refine his skills. He enjoyed working on his house and his vehicles ensuring everything was working as it should.
He is survived by his father and mother, Jack and Helen Baker; three brothers, Brad of New York, Jackie of Virginia, and Gary of California, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, with Msgr. William Collins officiating. Burial with full military honors was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home.
Stanley Czernik
Retired Serviceman, 61
Stanley Slawomir Czernik of Woodbourne embarked on his quest for eternal knowledge after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 61.
The son of the late Bronislaw and Lydia Czernik, he was born in 1945 in a work camp in Germany. He and his family came to America and he became a U.S. citizen when he was four years of age.
Throughout his life, Stanley was an adventurer. He looked at every situation as an opportunity to gain knowledge and to grow as a person. His true passions were aviation and electronics.
Stanley enlisted into the U.S. Air Force where he served during Vietnam and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Shortly after his honorable discharge, he moved to California and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he spent 30 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his enlistment in the Navy and Air Force, he received numerous medals and commendations for his outstanding service and professionalism including a Presidential Unit Citation during his time in the USAF. He was a world traveler who enjoyed his time in the military. He retired from the military in 1989 and returned home to New York to be close to his family. After returning, Stanley spent several years in the Child Protective Division of the Department of Social Services until his retirement. He received a certificate of appreciation from the Sunnyvale Elementary School for his volunteer work.
He is survived by his wife, Mitsuko Czernik; two sisters, Irene Morosky of Ellenville, and Ann Barry and her husband, Cliff of Grahamsville; three nieces: Laura Donovan of Woodbourne, and Fawn and Elayne Morosky of Ellenville; one nephew, Cliff Barry Jr. of Woodbourne; and four grandnephews, Morgan and Zachary Donovan, Christopher William Barry and Gabriel Morosky.
He was predeceased by his father, Bronislaw Czernik in September 1996, and his mother, Lydia Czernik in April 2000.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 10 at St. Peter's Church, Broadway & Liberty St., Monticello.

Homemaker, 86
Ella Donnelly, late of Glen Spey, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis. She was 86.
The daughter of Karl and Mariya Lavinovitch Kiepe, she was born in Hamborn, Germany. She lived in Riga, Latvia until the age of 18. She emigrated to the United States in 1938.
She was married to the late Thomas J. Donnelly. She was a member of Most Precious Blood R.C. Church, Walden.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Donnelly and his wife Sandra of Mary Esther, Fla. and Charles Donnelly and his wife Ann of Glen Spey; five grandchildren, Annette Konecni and her husband Anthony, Noelle Capuzzi and her husband Matthew, Leslie and Erin Donnelly, and Zack Rutherford; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Theresa, Oliva, and Avery Konecni, and Cole Capuzzi. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Theresa Petty, in 1991.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home with the Rev. Bernard MacDonald officiating. Burial was made in Wallkill Valley Cemetery, Walden.

Manny Marrero
Freelance Artisan, 46
Manny Marrero, a freelance artisan contractor and a longtime Monticello resident, died unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, February 4, 2007. He was 46.
The son of Raquel Marrero Rodriguez and Manuel Marrero, he was born November 27, 1960 in Matanzas, Cuba.
His family immigrated to the U.S. in the mid-1960s, and he graduated from Monticello High School in 1979 and began working with his uncle in the construction business. He operated an electronics service business under the name of Mantronics, Inc. and was a co-owner of Yellow Cab for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and ride four wheelers, snowmobiles and motorcycles, and was passionate about collecting guns. Most of all, Manny had a good heart and possessed an ability to repair or build anything. He would not hesitate to lend a helping hand to a friend in need.
Survivors include his mother, Raquel Marrero Rodriguez; his father, Manuel Marrero and his wife, Maria; a devoted daughter, Nichole Rachel Marrero and her companion, Erik Brodie; a brother, Lizvaldo "Lee" Marrero; two sisters, Diana and Jennifer Marrero, all of Monticello; his former wife of 20 years, Jill Farrow; aunts and uncles Jose and Maria Rodriguez, Oswaldo and Claudina Rodriguez, Martha Rodriguez, Hilda Rodriguez, Frank and Aleyda Corces, Donna Rodriguez, Ledio and Eva Marrero, and Orlando Marrero; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Ramona Zamora and Jose Rodriguez; paternal grandparents, Manuel Marrero and Celia Delgado; aunts and uncles, Oscar Rodriguez, Silvia Rodriguez, Armando and Carmen Triana and Humberto Rodriguez.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday at St. Peter's Church in Monticello with Fr. John Tran officiating. Burial was made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.

Dolores Pavlick,
Formerly of Monticello, 77
Dolores L. Pavlick of Davenport, Fla. died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007.
She was born in Providence, R.I. and enjoyed a very happy family life in Monticello for 35 years. She moved to Davenport, Fla. nine years ago. She was trained as a secretary and began her career on Wall Street after high school.
In 1953 she married Hank; in 1959 they moved to Monticello, where they raised three children. After her parents retired and moved to the area a few years later, she returned to work as Office Manager for the area's first department store; later an Assistant Administrator at Hamilton Ave. Hospital, and was secretary of Quickway Metal Fabricators. She ended her career at Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee, Fla. in 2006.
She lived an active, fun-loving life filled with interests and hobbies. She enjoyed the backyard pool, boat and motor home and sharing these with friends and family. She loved all things Christmas, any outing with the grandchildren, the annual family picnic and clambake, hosting Thanksgiving dinner or any family gathering, and collecting and displaying more than a few chochkas.
She was predeceased by her parents, Armand and Evangeline "Vange" Almeida.
She is survived by her loving husband, Henry "Hank" Pavlick of Davenport, Fla.; sons: Gary Pavlick of Albany, Allan Pavlick and wife, Sue, of Slate Hill, and Jeff Pavlick and wife, Barbara, of Park City, Utah; a brother, Armand Almeida of Salt Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Robyn, Lauren, Jesse, Karen, Michelle, Ashley and Kristen; a niece, Diana, and nephew, Larry.
She was a communicant of Saint Faustina Parish. She will be lovingly remembered by all.

Technician, 58
Ethel Marie Roe of Middletown, a Central Service Technician having retired from Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, died Monday, February 5, 2007 at home surrounded by her family. She was 58.
The daughter of the late Edward P. and Lettie Johnson Brewer, she was born March 26, 1948 in Middletown.
Ethel was a Registered Molly Pitcher at Ft. Still in Oklahoma, the highest civilian award for artillery.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice L. Roe Jr. at home, and her daughters, Denise Goodwin of Middletown, Theresa Pearson and her husband, William IV, of Bloomingburg, Pamela Bedford and her husband, Raymond, of Fulton, and Sandra DeGroat and her husband, Charles, of Middletown; four brothers, Joseph Johnson of Otisville, Edward Brewer of Crawford, James Brewer of Otisville, and Francis Brewer and his wife, Adele, of Middletown; 15 grandchildren; two and a half great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.

Martin Miesner
Retired Gas Serviceman, 91
Martin J. Miesner of Tennanah Lake, a retired gas serviceman for Brooklyn Union Gas Co. and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. He was 91.
The son of the late Paul W. and Helena Lutgen Miesner, he was born May 31, 1915 in Fremont.
Martin had attended the United Church of Roscoe and was a member of the Couple's Club, the Roscoe-Rockland Senior Citizens, and a life member of the National Rifle Association.
A family statement said, "He enjoyed working with his son, Paul, helping with chores and haying. He will be sadly missed by the family."
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy A. Bensch Miesner, at home; two daughters, Kathryn Carlson and her husband, David, and Helen Barlett and her husband, Robert; one son, Paul W. Miesner and his wife, Lorraine; six grandchildren, Paul Carlson and his wife, Jenny; Jeanne Carlson Seale and her husband, Colton; Matthew Barlett and his wife, Julie; James Barlett, Karen Barlett, and Helen Rose Miesner, and three great-grandchildren, Brady, John Paul and Maggie Carlson.
