Robert Darryl Emmett of Hortonville, a chef at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon and a 16-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at home following a brief illness. He was 70.
The son of the late Charles and Caroline Markham Emmett, he was born October 6, 1936 in Cook County, Ill.
A U.S. military veteran, he was a member of American Legion in Milford, Pa.; member and past Chief of the Franklin Lakes, NJ, Fire Department; co-founder and Captain of Franklin Lake Ambulance Squad; honorary member of Hortonville Fire Dept.; a member of the S.C. Fireman’s Advisory Board; and a member of the Hortonville Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Building and Grounds Committee.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Kurtz Emmett, at home; a brother, Charles Emmett and his wife, Beverly of Wyckoff, N.J.; four sons: Michael Emmett and his wife, Maureen, of Middletown, Del.; David Emmett of Clifton Park, N.J.; Steven Emmett and his wife, Jane of Tunkhannock, Pa.; and Darryl Emmett and his wife, Kristin, of Damascus, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 10 at Stewart Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main St., Callicoon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Firematic services and religious services will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Cremation will be made at the convenience of the family.

Matilda Stutz
Former teacher, 89
Matilda M. Stutz of Narrowsburg died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at The Kent in Kent, Ct.
Born in Narrowsburg on May 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Peter and Wilhelmina (Schott) Bauer.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the State of New York College for Teachers in Albany. She taught business classes at the high school in Callicoon, prior to marrying Charles Stutz on July 16, 1947. She and her husband owned and operated the Charles Stutz Insurance Company in Jamaica, Queens. Her husband predeceased her on January 24, 1980.
She loved traveling, her cats, and Beaverbook, and she attended the Lutheran Church in the Narrowsburg area.
She is survived by her cousin, Chuck Neuman of Long Island.
A funeral service was conducted on Thursday, February 8 at the Horn & Thomes Funeral Home, 83 East Main St., Pawling with the Rev. John Ellingworth officiating.
Burial was made in the Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.
Stephen Taylor, 34
Stephen Philip Taylor of Wurtsboro died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at ORMC, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 34.
The son of Gloria Conklin Taylor and the late Norman Philip Taylor, he was born February 10, 1972 in Suffern.
He spent his final days surrounded by his loving family, friends and caregivers. Stephen gently touched the lives of all those who had the honor and privilege of knowing and loving him. He truly understood the "gift" of life and shared his wisdom and understanding of loving every day to its fullest with all of those who were lucky enough to cross his path.
Stephen had many hobbies, which provided him with countless hours of pleasure. His earliest passion in life was flying. Later he turned his energies into the Wurtsboro Fire Department and reaching out to those who shared the common cause of overcoming cancer. Stephen was a lover of travel, music, talking, laughing, movies, hunting, fishing, driving fast, his nieces, Disney, the sounds of waves hitting docks and the beauty of all natural things created.
He was a member of The Sons of American Legion, the Wurtsboro Fire Department, Citizens Reunited to Overcome Cancer (CROC), and the loving family of Camp Good Days and Special Times. Stephen was also a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph's Church.
He is survived by his loving mother, Gloria Taylor, at home; his sister, Dana Parks and her husband, Tom, of Forestburgh; two nieces, Taylor Morgan Parks and Maredith Bea Parks; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; many wonderful caregivers, nurses and doctors; as well as the entire community of Wurtsboro.
He was predeceased by his father, Norman P. Taylor; his grandparents, John and Mary Conklin and Daniel and Edith Carpenter; and countless others taken from the physical world due to terminal illnesses.
Friends may call on Sunday, February 11, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, February 12 at St. Joseph's Church, Sullivan St., Wurtsboro. Fr. Peter Madori will officiate.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Louis Sanducci

Louis J. Sanducci of Roscoe, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007 in Ocean County Medical Center at Brick, N.J. He was 81.
Mr. Sanducci was born in Manhattan and lived in Closter, N.J. before moving to Roscoe in 1993. He wintered in Pt. Pleasant, N.J.
He was a Production Manager for Farrand Optical in Valhalla until his retirement in 1987. He was a detail-oriented individual. Their home and property were the love of their life.
"What could be better than to love those around you, wife of 61 years, children, grandchildren and friends. To enjoy nature and the environment. He was truly a man of grand stature."
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Sanducci of Roscoe; two sons, Robert Sanducci of Tivoli and Louis Sanducci Jr. of Oradell, N.J.; a daughter, Lorraine Riker of Pt. Pleasant, N.J.; six grandchildren, and one brother, Anthony Sanducci of Smoke Rise, N.J.
A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Freehold, N.J.

Bonita Witt, 53
Bonita L. Witt of Huguenot, a 15-year resident of the area, died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center. She was 53.
She was born April 13, 1953 in Lewiston, Idaho, the daughter of the late Seldon and the late Anna Moore Hatton.
Survivors include her husband, Randolph Bigham, at home; her son, William R. Bates of Port Jervis; a daughter, Patricia Hatton of Monticello; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa.
Funeral arrangements are by the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Port Jervis.
Mary Kelly
Retired teacher, 81
Mary Wilson Kelly, a retired teacher for the Liberty Central Schools, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty after a long illness. She was 81.
The daughter of the late Joseph Wilson & Theresa Corcoran Wilson, she was born September 3, 1925 in Poultney, Vt. She was the widow of Philip E. Kelly who predeceased her on May 23, 1992.
Mary was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello where she was a Eucharistic Minister, a lector and an adult education teacher, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Kelly of Monticello and Richard Kelly and his wife Jessica Hull of Thornwood; two daughters, Ann Kelly-Libera and her husband Peter of Syracuse and Theresa Kelly-Kocijanski and her husband John of Monticello; five grandchildren, Katie, Meghan, Chloe, MacKenzie & Sean; two brothers, Anthony Wilson and his wife Elizabeth and Michael Wilson and his wife Donna, all of Schenectady; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Monday, February 12 at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty St., Monticello. Fr. Timothy Wiggins will officiate.
Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Monticello.

Donna Battipaglia of Middletown died Friday, February 2, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 55.
The daughter of George and Gladys Wilbert LeFever, she was born December 7, 1951 in Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband, Pasquale Battipaglia, at home; her daughter, Kimberly Battipaglia and her fiancé Edward Wilkins of Wurtsboro; her brother-in-law, Joseph Battipaglia and his wife Margaret of Middletown; a sister-in-law, Mary Malone of Queens; nieces and nephews, Michael and Maria Battipaglia of Middletown, Theresa Malone of Mt. Pocono, Pa., Colleen Hoffman and her husband David of Seaford, John Malone and his wife Lisa of Long Island; and grandnieces and nephews, Michelle and Alyssa Vuono, David and Dylan Hoffman.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Park Manor for the 15 years of care they provided for Donna.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, February 5 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Middletown.
Burial was made in Wallkill Cemetery.

Matthew Bruce
Laborer, 55
Matthew Bruce, a 37-year resident of Ellenville, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Kingston Hospital, Kingston. He was 55.
The son of the late Clay Bruce Sr. and Lucille Young Bruce, he was born November 15, 1951 in Georgetown, Ga.
Mr. Bruce was a laborer for Bio Energy Corp. in Ellenville.
Survivors include his two sons, Matthew Smith and Martin Smith, both of Monticello; daughter, Franshawn Bruce of Columbus, Ga.; brother, Willie L. Bruce Sr. of Ellenville; five sisters: Eula Mae Hawkins, Jessie Mae Bruce and Marie Ann Bruce, all of Ellenville, Lucille Peterson of Eufala, Ala., and Ann Gail Bruce of Reading, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Maude Bruce and Mary Bruce, both of Ellenville; three brothers-in-law: Walter Peterson and Willie Fred Hawkins, both of Eufala, Ala., and Vinson Dillard of Ellenville. He is also survived by five grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, Clay Bruce Jr. and Jimmy Lee Bruce.
Friends may call Wednesday, February 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, 156 Center Street, Ellenville.
Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Edward Holmes and the Rev. Betty Gray officiating.
Interment will be made in Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville.
