Ret. Harness Driver, 92
Arthur Stanley Koch of Montgomery, a retired Harness Driver and former owner of Dapple Gray Farm in Montgomery, died peacefully at the Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Goshen on October 15, 2007. He was 92.
The son of Sally and Fred Koch, he was born February 28 in Huntington and was a successful contractor, known for building schools and other municipal buildings in Huntington for many years. His love of animals and of “the races” led him to pursue a successful second career as a trainer, driver and breeder of harness horses. He was one of the top ten drivers in the country and raced in Yonkers, Roosevelt and Monticello Raceway as well as in other tracks in the U.S.
Survivors include his wife, Jane at home; three daughters from his first marriage to Belle Turner, Ellen Skorupski and husband, George of Maryland, Linda Block and husband, Carl of Florida and Carol Ryan and husband, Jim Hobbs of Sundown; seven grandchildren, Joaquin, Denise, Heather, Stephanie, Josh, Jason and Tim; nine great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Rainsong, Madison, Ethan, Dylan, Luna, Gabriel, Caroline and Parker; stepson, Tony Martino; and step-grandson, Tony, Jr.
His only sibling, Herbert Koch, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at Overhiser Funeral Home, 78 Union Street, Montgomery. Rev. James Houten will officiate.
Burial will be made in the Brick Church Cemetery, Montgomery.

Edward J. Mulvey
Landscaper, 46
Edmond J. Mulvey of Monticello, a self-employed landscaper, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2007 from injuries sustained in a hiking accident. He was 46.
The son of Elizabeth Laufersweiler Mulvey and the late Joseph Mulvey, he was born November 14, 1960 in Monticello.
Edmond was an avid snow skier having competed on the New York State Ski Team. Along with snow skiing, he loved water skiing and was a true athlete, excelling in soccer and baseball.
Along with his mother Elizabeth, he will be missed by his loving son Joseph; sister, Eileen McGuire and her husband, Bob; brothers, William “Mickey” Mulvey and his wife, Donna, John Mulvey, and Tom Mulvey; nieces and nephews, Sarah Mulvey Gaines, Timothy Mulvey, Kelly McGuire Tremper, Gregory McGuire; grandniece, Elizabeth Mattea Gaines; his ex-wife, Karen Moroney Mulvey; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon on Saturday, July 21 at St. Peter’s R.C. Church, Broadway and Liberty Street in Monticello. Msg. Edward Straub will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Monticello.

Norman McNaughton
Accountant, 84
Norman F. McNaughton, formerly of Liberty, passed away July 13, 2007 peacefully at home. He was 84.
He was born on September 24, 1922 in Bangor, Maine to W. Orville and Edith Lovering McNaughton.
He was a graduate of Julliard, who later became an accountant. He loved classical music.
A family statement reads, “He will be missed and loved by all very much.”
Survivors include Rhona Mackenzie and Loretta Latimer, both of Liberty; Meredith Rivera of Loch Sheldrake; Ryan Chesler of Springhill, Fla.; and Michael Mackenzie of Hurleyville.
He was predeceased by both his parents.
Visitation was held at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, Livingston Manor.
Interment was made Monday in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor, Me.
Arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home.
Gary A. Parsons
Equipment Operator, 42
Gary A. Parsons of Callicoon, a self-employed equipment operator and lifelong resident of the area, died July 16, 2007 at home. He was 42.
The son of Harry and Beverly Scullion Parsons, he was born September 29, 1964 in Callicoon.
Survivors include his parents of North Branch; a brother, Andrew Parsons of North Branch; a sister, Jamie Parsons of Livingston Manor; nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Parsons, Andrew Parsons, Jr., Jordan Parsons, Elaine Parsons, Lakota Dewitt, Lacy Parsons and Skyler Dewitt; and his canine companion, Cheeka.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
Burial will be made in the Callicoon Center Cemetery.

Harry James Martine
Ret. Martine’s Towing Emp., 62
Harry James Martine of Middletown, a lifelong resident of the area, having retired from Spaulding and Wonderbread, as well as Martine’s Towing and Recovery Service, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at home, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 62.
The son of the late Irene B. Montanye and Joseph Martine, he was born June 9, 1945.
A veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Harry “Jiggers” was known for his softball teams in Circleville, and in his retirement, he enjoyed his church and golf, as well as spending as much time as possible with friends and family. A M.H.S. graduate, he was an outstanding wrestler, a Section IX Champ.
Survivors include his children, Darlene Gailie and Tom Martine, both of Middletown, Gary Martine of Newark, N.J., Don Martine of South Carolina and Paul, Rose and Christina Martine, all of Milford, Pa.; his brothers and sisters, Joseph “Curly” Martine of Florida, Richard and Walter “Wally” Martine, and Earl Martine, all of Middletown, Betty Martine of Bloomingburg; and his stepmother, Marie Martine of Edgewood, Fla.; grandchildren, Jordan, Cameron, Deana, Tommy, Gabriela, Tyler, Drake and Tessa; his companion, Maureen “Mo” Kennedy; his closest cousins and friends, Michael C. Martine, Frankie Carmine, Eddie Owens, Ron Barnes and Rose and Paul Cuttitta.
He was predeceased by his brother, David.
Funeral services will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21 at Bread of Life Church, Route 17K in Bullville.

Willie A. Godley
Construction Worker, 59
Willie A. Godley, a longtime area resident, died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty. He was 59.
The son of Willie Godley Sr. and Mary Crandall Godley, he was born on Jan. 15, 1948 in Washington, NC.
He was a construction worker for Earl & Earl Construction Co. He was also a member of the Little Grove Holiness Church, Woodridge.
Survivors include his father, Willie Godley Sr. of Monticello; a brother, Reginald Godley of Rock Hill; two sisters, Hattie Higgins and her husband Anthony of Monticello and Eva Godley of Monticello.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Lawrence and Donnie; and his mother, Mary.
Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. at the Little Grove Holiness Church in Woodridge on Sat. July 21. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. with the Bishop Thomas Ward officiating.
Burial will be made in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.

Henrietta Kleingardner
Nurse, 63
Henrietta Kleingardner passed away July 15, 2007 after a long illness with diabetes. She was 63.
She was born Henrietta Lenore Welch in Livingston Manor on April 22, 1944.
She was a nurse for 30 years at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.
She is survived by her sister, Edith Mills; brother, Winnie Welch and Emma; daughter, Dorene Ross and Earl Sr.; son, Eric Kavanaugh and Wendy, all of Livingston Manor; five grandchildren, Earl Ross Jr., Allyson Shannon Ross, Jason Ross, Cortney Kavanaugh and Todd Jones; two great grandchildren, Janet Hill and Jacob Ross; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Kleingardner; her mother, Violet Welch; and her father, Henry Welch.
Family statement reads, “Henrietta was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Everything she did in her life has touched someone else in such a great way. She will definitely be missed.”
A service was held at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor on Thursday July 19, 2007. The Rev. Carl Stiglich officiated.
Cremation and interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Memorial service for Eleanor M. Gerow & Ralph B. Gerow
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23 for Eleanor M. Gerow of Carbondale, Pa., who died February 1, 2007, and Ralph B. Gerow, who died September 14, 2001, at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.

Vera Tobin
Retired Librarian, 94
Vera Tobin of Callicoon, a retired librarian for the Delaware Free Library in Callicoon, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie. She was 94.
The daughter of the late Otto and Augusta Backert, she was born August 20, 1912 in New York City. She was the widow of Neil Tobin. Vera was one of the original founders of the Delaware Free Library, and also a founder of the Delaware Youth Center in Callicoon. She was an avid reader of books and an avid bowler.
Survivors include her step-children, Jim Tobin of Hornell and Jack Tobin of Hancock; her sons, Pat Tobin of Atlanta, Ga., David Tobin of California, and Terry Tobin of Fishkill. She has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Alan Hawkins and Donald Hawkins, and a daughter, Marilyn Tobin Sharetts.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, Route 97, Callicoon. Father Ignatius Smith OFM will officiate.
Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Long Eddy following the services.
