Shane P. McCullough of Port Charlotte, Fla. and formerly of Monticello, died unexpectedly on July 2, 2007.
Shane was born March 17, 1979 in Harris to his beloved parents Leon Douglas McCullough and Wendy Thomas McCullough.
Shane was known to his friends as “DUBBS,” he had a heart of gold, his brown eyes and bright smile would light up a room. He was a caring and compassionate young man who will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Leon and Wendy Thomas McCullough, he is survived by his brothers, Corey and Tristian McCullough; one sister, Tishanna Marie McCullough and two nephews, Jahir and Jamin McCullough, all of Monticello; maternal grandparents, Joyce Alexander and the late Rupert Alexander of Trinidad, West Indies and Eversely Thomas and his wife Geraldine of Queens; aunts, Jacqueline Alexander-Lynch and her husband Learie, Allison Alexander-Jack and her husband Andy of Trinidad, West Indies, Sherma Alexander-Williams and her husband, Lenard of Monticello, Ayana Thomas-Alleyne and her husband, Anderson; Betty Ann Thomas of Queens, and Charlene McCullough of Manhattan; uncles, Brian Alexander and his wife Margaret of Trinidad, West Indies, Lester Alexander and his wife Alethea of Toronto, Canada, Derek Alexander of London, England, Everald Thomas of Queens and Leroy McCullough of Savannah, Ga.; granduncles, James McCullough, and Robert McCullough and his wife Mary of New York, Cecil Walters and his wife Ann Marie of Monticello, Roy Alexander and his wife Ann of Brooklyn; Frank Alexander and Ulric, Victor, and Dave Walters, all of Trinidad, West Indies; and Robbie Walters and his wife Cheryl and Steve Walters and his wife Margaret, all of Trinidad, West Indies; grandaunts, Jean Dowridge and Grace Alexander of Trinidad, West Indies, Patsy Walters and Phyllis Edwards of Monticello, Sarah McCullough of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of cousins and lifelong friends; his extended family of Port Charlotte, Fla., Andrew and Colleen Nicotra, Andrew Jr. and Jessie Nicotra, Jacqueline Dipini, Elizabeth Picerno, Riannon Bowers, and Jessica J. Bent; and his godchildren, Antonio and Trinity Nicotra.
Shane was predeceased by his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Walters, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy McCullough, and Mr. and Mrs. Haigwood; his grandparents, Leroy McCullough and Mrs. Marie Brown; aunts, Sandra and Barbara McCullough; granduncles, Willie McCullough, and Mikey and Keith Walters; cousins, Willie, Taima and Charlotte McCullough and Natasha Edwards Lawrence.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, July 12 at St. Peter’s R.C. Church in Monticello. Fr. Stanislaus Ogbonna officiated.
Burial was made in St. Peter’s R.C. Cemetery in Monticello.

Neil Scala
Machinist, 80
Neil Scala of Warwick, died on July 10, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. He was 80.
Born September 25, 1926 in Italy, he was the son of Francesco and Filomena Caccavale Scala.
He came to the United States in 1952 and lived in Brooklyn before moving to Warwick in 1963.
He was the widower of Angela Dinicola Scala.
Mr. Scala was a veteran of the Italian Air Force. He was a machinist with Monroe Tubing, Monroe, and a former employee of Ford Motor Company, Mahwah, N.J.
He is survived by his son, Frank Scala of Warwick; a daughter, Phyllis Scala of Bloomingburg; and a granddaughter, Philicia Heiberger of Bloomingburg.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13 at St. Stephens R.C. Church, Warwick.
Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.

Carol A. Allen
Self-employed, 68
Carol A. Allen of Forestburgh, a lifelong area resident and self-employed restaurant operator, passed away at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris on Saturday, July 7, 2007. She was 68.
The daughter of the late Elmer and Alice Reynolds Hemmer, she was born March 16, 1939 in Monticello.
Survivors include her son, Donald F. Allen of Dunmore, Pa.; her daughter, Karri Theis and her husband Brad of Bethel; her sister, Arlyn Miller of Bangor, Maine; four grandchildren: Kelly Theis, Michael Theis, Donald F. Allen and Erin Allen; her companion Patrick Everett; and three great-grandchildren: Megan, Michelle and Kaydence Everett.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Allen; her stepfather, Louis Raiten and her brother, Elmer Hemmer.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 11 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy Shaffer officiated.
Burial was made in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.

Samuel Cohen
Retired Contractor, 72
Samuel E. Cohen of Lackawaxen, Pa., passed away at home July 7, 2007. He was 72.
The son of the late Max and Harriet Pearl Smith Cohen, he was born July 30, 1934 in Suffern.
He was a retired self-employed contractor, and a graduate of Hartwick College, Oneonta, and a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
Mr. Cohen was a member of the Delaware Lodge #561 F&AM, Calicoon; an active member of the local senior center, and a member and past chief of the Lackawaxen Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine Cohen of East Stroudsburg, Pa. and Stephanie Clark and her husband R.J. of Stroudsburg, Pa.; one brother-in-law, Patrick Waldron of Lavallette, N.J.; a nephew, Peter Tutini; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Interment will take place in Lackawaxen Cemetery, Lackawaxen, Pa. at the convenience of the family.

Karoline Kleinman
Formerly of Monticello, 83
Karoline Kleinman, formerly of Monticello, passed away on July 9, 2007 after a long illness at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center in Albany.
The daughter of Oscar and Tillie Sussman Smith, she was born May 16, 1924 in the Bronx. She was the widow of Albert Kleinman, who died July 23, 2003.
She attended Evander Childs High School in New York City and Sullivan County Community College, and graduated from the State University at New Paltz. She worked for Sullivan County Social Services until her retirement.
She was an animal lover who did volunteer work with the Sullivan County SPCA, and loved to travel. She spent at least two weeks every year traveling to Europe, Israel, or the Mediterranean.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita and her husband James Orsino of Greenville; her son, Gary Kleinman and his wife Lucille of Clinton Township, Mich.; four grandchildren, James Orsino Jr., (Nicole) Shoshana, Miriam and Yosef Kleinman; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Orsino; and three nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Smith; and a sister, Eleanor Sandler.
Karoline’s family would like to thank the entire staff of the Blue Unit at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for the wonderful care they gave her during her long illness.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, July 11 at the Workmen’s Circle Cemetery, Monticello.

Kenneth D. Niemann
Lifelong resident, 49
Kenneth D. Neimann, 49, who lived at the home of his sister-in-law, Joanne Niemann of Bridgeport, and was formerly a lifelong resident from Hurleyville, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2007.
Kenneth was born January 7, 1958 at Liberty Loomis Hospital.
He worked for 30 years at Sullivan Industries. He enjoyed watching pro wrestling, swimming, dogs and Pokemon Trading Cards.
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Niemann; two brothers, Michael Niemann of Caledonia, Michigan and Edward Niemann of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald F. Niemann; and two brothers, Timothy W. Niemann and John W. Niemann.
A memorial service will be held at the home of Joanne Niemann at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13, at 8432 Lakeshore View Drive in Bridgeport.
Another memorial service will be held in Hurleyville on Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at the Hurleyville Methodist Church.

Nancy Podhorzer
Former Office Manager, 71
Nancy Podhorzer of Loch Sheldrake, a former medical office manager and longtime area resident, died July 10, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, after a short illness. She was 71.
The daughter of Robert and Sidnye Foster Werbin, she was born November 6, 1935 in Passaic, NJ.
She was president of the Loch Sheldrake Senior Club for over three years, a member of Hadassah, Jewish Woman’s International, and a volunteer at CRMC Harris.
She is survived by her husband, Leo Podhorzer, at home; her son, Marc Rickey; her daughter, Debra Rickey York; her sisters, Ina Gorfinkel and Edie Sorkin, both of NJ; her grandchildren, Ryan and Sarah Rickey and Ashley York; stepchildren, Barbara Falkowitz of New City and Donna Chmielnik of Congers, and stepgrandchildren, Michael, Ian, Robert and Vanessa.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 12 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc., Monticello. Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiated.
Burial was made in the Passaic Junction Hebrew Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ.
Susan Callahan
Case Manager, 46
Susan Sybil Callahan of Walker Valley died unexpectedly on Friday, June 8, 2007 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. She was 46.
Born in Suffern, on June 26, 1960, she was the daughter of the late Edith Hasting Callahan and John C. Callahan of Orangeburg.
She was employed as a Specialist Case Manager at Occupations, Inc., Middletown.
Susan is survived by a brother, Andrew Mark Callahan of Bloomingburg; stepsisters, Tina Roth of Cuddebackville, Veronica Meyer and Desi Placco of Bloomingburg, and Melanie Mann of Stony Point; a stepbrother, Ronald Mann; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to join the family in a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 at The First Unitarian Society of Rockland County in Pomona. The Reverend Harry C. Green will be officiating.
