Lucile "Grammy Lou" Craig of Grahamsville, a resident of Middletown for most of her life, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Anthony and Elsie Geist, she was born May 21, 1913, on Staten Island.
Mrs. Craig was an active member of the Warwick Valley Quilters and a retired senior stenographer from the Middletown State Hospital.
She is survived by a son, George; a daughter, Karen; four grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-grandddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Netti.
Interment was made in the Moravian Cemetery on Staten Island.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
Lois E. Zweck
Ret. Beautician, 64
Lois E. Zweck of Liberty, a retired beautician and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 64 years of age.
The daughter of Shirley A. Abplanalp Hutchinson and the late Charles W. Hutchinson, she was born September 12, 1937, in Monticello.
Mrs. Zweck was a member, past president and past secretary of the Russell Sprague American Legion Post #109 in Liberty.
In a family statement, it was said, "Lois was a kind and loving wife and mother. Thanks for everything, Mom."
She is survived by her husband, Sheldon D. Zweck, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel T. and Barbara Zweck of Liberty and James N. and Dawn Zweck of Durham, N.C.; her mother of Monticello; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lori and Harold Sturgis of Monticello and Linda and Douglas Smith of Saratoga Springs; two grandchildren, Kristen and Ryan Zweck; a niece, Laurie Lynn Smith; a nephew, Brian Smith; several cousins; and many loving friends.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty with the Rev. Stephen Dibble officiating.
Burial will be made in the Liberty Cemetery in Liberty.

Robert Kachelriess
Ret. Elec. Engr., 74
Robert F. Kachelriess of Woodbourne, a retired electrical engineer, died Sunday, August 4, 2002, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 74 years of age.
A United States Air Force veteran with the rank of corporal, he was born December 19, 1927, in Elizabeth, N.J.
He is survived by four children, Karen Horn of Broken Arrow, Okla., Lori DeCarlo of Apoka, Fla., Robert Kachelriess of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Scott Kachelriess of New Port Richey, Fla.
Graveside services and burial, with full military honors, were held Wednesday at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
Patrick Hanley Sr.
Ret. Carpenter, 73
Patrick J. Hanley Sr. of New Paltz, a retired carpenter at SUNY College in New Paltz and a 33-year area resident, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at the Kingston Hospital in Kingston. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Dan and Louise Giargenti Hanley, he was born February 17, 1929, in Brooklyn.
A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Hanley was a member of the Brannen-Van Den Burgh Post No. 8645, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in New Paltz; a member of St. Charles Church and the Helping Hands of the church in Gardiner; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5800; and a Friend of Bill W.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Reinhartsen Hanley, at home; two sons, Patrick Hanley Jr. of Woodridge and Douglas Hanley of Kingston; a daughter, Barbara Hedges of Pine Bush; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jean Marie Elford, and a brother, Daniel Hanley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church in Gardiner.
Burial will be made in St. Charles Cemetery in Gardiner.
John Smith
CRAC Teacher, 41
John "Carl" Smith Jr. of South Fallsburg, a teacher for CRAC of Middletown, died suddenly on Sunday morning, August 4, 2002, at home. He was 41 years of age.
The son of John and Beulah Williams Smith, he was born June 26, 1961, in Brooklyn.
Mr. Smith was a member and a deacon of the Ellenville Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He is survived by three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dave A. and Chung Smith of Woodridge, Sir Erric Sr. and Louise Smith of South Fallsburg and Jeffrey Smith of South Fallsburg; two aunts, Althea Booth of Petersburg, Va., and Idell Spriggs of Monticello; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his church family.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the Ellenville South Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ellenville with Pastor David Cuke officiating.
Burial was made in the Fantinekill Cemetery.

Gladys E.L. Martin
Ret. Teacher's Aide, 85
Gladys Eleanora Lacey Martin, a six-year resident of Charlotte, N.C., and a retired 20-year teacher's aide with the Monticello High School, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at the Mecklenburg Health Home Center. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late E. Wiley and Lillian Barnhart Lacey, she was born February 12, 1917, in Livingston Manor.
During World War II, Mrs. Martin worked as a plane spotter. She was a dedicated member of the Monticello United Methodist Church where she also served as a Sunday School superintendent and church treasurer. Mrs. Martin was also active in the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by two children and their spouses, Carol M. and Jim Daly of Charlotte, N.C., and Robert E. and Linda Martin of Rock Hill, S.C. five grandchildren, Capt. James Powell and his wife, Tisha, of West Point, David J. Powell and his wife, Tara, of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher Martin, Timothy Martin and Stephen Martin, all of Rock Hill, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Powell, Cassidy Powell and Delaney Powell; a brother, Harold Lacey, and four sisters, Edith Kanoff, Eva Terwilliger, Clara Tremper and Mae Van Aken.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Martin will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the graveside in Oaklawn Cemetery in Charlotte, N.C.

George L. Seibert
Ret. Pharmacist, 82
George L. Seibert of Halesite, L.I., a retired pharmacist and former resident of Jeffersonville, died Monday, January 21, 2002. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Fred W. and Florence Puerschner Seibert, he was brought up by his grandmother, Lena Seibert Faubel and her husband, Louis Faubel in Jeffersonville. He was a 1937 graduate of Jeffersonville High School.
Following service in the U.S. Army during World War II, he continued his education at Columbia University in New York City and graduated as a pharmacist. During this time he was also associated with the popular Dolly Madison Shoppe on Main St. in Jeffersonville which was owned and operated by Louis P. Faubel and family from 1935 to 1944.
He and his wife, who is also a pharmacist and graduate of Columbia University, owned and operated the Harbor Pharmacy in Halesite and retired ten years ago after 25 years in business.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lilliana Seibert, at home; a son, Fredrick G. Seibert of New York City; two daughters, Elena Angela Goodman of New York City and Katherine Elizabeth Carey of California; seven grandchildren, Joseph and Jack Seibert, Perry and Lily Goodman and Lea, Alexandra and Georgia Carey; and a sister, Rita Faubel Yewchuck of Jeffersonville.
Graveside services and burial were held January 23 at the Melville Cemetery in Long Island.

Gussie Rados
Former Proprietor, 91
Gussie Rados, the widow of Morris Rados and the former owner of Gold & Rados cottages and poultry farm in South Fallsburg, died on May 14, 2007 in Aventura Medical Center Aventura Florida. She was 91.
Gussie was born in Lodz, Poland on October 15, 1915 the daughter of Szmuel and Esther Baila Leizerowicz Domfort.
She was a holocaust survivor, but lost her parents and her six siblings during the war. She met her husband, Morris, in a displaced persons camp in Europe and together they built a new life in the U.S.
Together, Gussie, Morris, Ruthie and Manny took 40 acres in South Fallsburg and turned it into one of the nicest colonies in the area.
Gussie, whose famous words include "Today is perfect and tomorrow will be better." She was the consummate Hostess. Whether it was her children's friends, her friends and neighbors, the door was always open and the table ready. The aroma of cakes, cookies and chicken soup wafted throughout her home.
She was a member of South Fallsburg Hebrew Association, and a Lifetime Member of Hadassah.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Sush and her husband, Richard; Helen Rados and her husband, James Goldfarb; and Sheila Haber and her companion, Steve Gordon; her sister, Ruth Gold; her grandchildren, Matthew and Darren Sush, Jillian and Rebecca Haber, Eli and Joanna Goldfarb; her niece, Esther Gold; her nephews and their spouses, Sam and Angela Gold, Steve and Helene Gold, and Michael and Esther Radoszycki; her grandnephews and grandnieces, Bari and Barry Mays, Bryan, Griffin, Austin, Haden Gold, Pamela and Helen Radoszycki; great grandnephew Evan; and other family all over the world.
She valued education. Upon her arrival in the U.S. she quickly learned the language and instilled the love of learning in her children and grandchildren. Her devotion and dedication to her family sustained her. She always said her most prized possessions were her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 17 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, Inc., Monticello. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiated.
Burial was made in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Assoc. Cemetery Marsh Road, Glen Wild.
Shiva will be observed in the home of Helen Rados and James Goldfarb from after the burial until Friday evening and again on Sunday and Monday evening from 5-7 p.m.
Donations in memory of Gussie may be made to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.

Mafalda White
Homemaker, 89
Mafalda White, formerly of Westbrookville, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. She was 89.
She was born in Manhattan on June 16, 1917.
Mafalda, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was known for her devotion to prayer, her beautiful singing voice, fabulous cooking and a love for children, animals, and music. She was fun loving and enjoyed entertaining. A gracious and beautiful woman, Mafalda had a wonderful sense of warmth that will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was the wife of the late Joseph White; loving mother of Joanne Crapanzano, Lorraine O'Neill, Alice White and Mary Gilmartin; devoted grandmother of Christine Conmy, Terri Andrews, Carol Demetrious, Michael O'Neill, Joseph O'Neill, Cathleen Bakke, Jennifer Walsh, and Kevin Gilmartin; and twelve cherished great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 18 at 12 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Church, 45 Highland Avenue, Otisville.
