Robert Brian Hoyt of Horseshoe, N.C., formerly of Monticello, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007, while at his residence. He was 44.
Born January 2, 1963, in Monticello, he was a son of the late Ronald Hoyt and Joan Fraser Hoyt.
Mr. Hoyt was a member of the Boylston Baptist Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. An avid hunter, he was also a life member of the North American Hunting Club and a member of the Panther Mountain Hunting Camp, Claryville.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta Ihelfeldt Hoyt, of the home; his loyal dog, Missy; three sons, John, Douglas and Jason Hoyt, all of Horseshoe, N.C.; a step-mother, Terri Hoyt of Ulster Park; two sisters, Linda Martin of Rock Hill, S.C., and Janice Meyer of Brownville Junction, Maine; a grandmother, Elizabeth Fraser of Monticello; two step-sisters, Zabrina and Brianna Kerrigan, both of Ulster Park; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive Mr. Hoyt.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life was held on Thursday, May 17, 2007, at the Boylston Baptist Church. The Reverend James Burress officiated.

Homemaker, 63
Patricia A. Knack of Callicoon, a homemaker and longtime area resident was promoted into the presence of her Lord and savior on May 15, 2007. She was 63.
The daughter of Louise Kossman Braune and the late Fred Braune, she was born at Randolph Field, Bexar County, Texas on September 20, 1943.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Damascus, Pa.
Survivors include her mother, Louise Kossman Braune; her husband, Gus Knack at home; her daughter, Patti Kellam and her husband, Randall of Tyler Hill, Pa.; two grandchildren, Tom and Amanda Kellam; two brothers, Fred Braune Jr. and Edward Braune both of Texas; a sister-in-law, Edith Brown of Callicoon; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Damascus, Pa. from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Services will be at the First Baptist Church of Damascus at 11 a.m. the Reverend Stuart Hunt will officiate.
Burial will be in the Overlook Cemetery, Damascus, Pa.

George T. Gilmour, 72
George Thomas Gilmour, of Margate, Fla., passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. surrounded by his family. He was 72.
The son of the late William and Margaret Gilmour, he was born November 16, 1934 in Clandeboy, Ontario, Canada.
George was a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #1 in Wilmington, N.C.; the Florida Breeders and Owners Association; the Margate Elk's Lodge; and a lifelong member of the United States Trotting Association.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Campbell Gilmour, at home; a daughter, Kimberly Gilmour of Plantation, Fla.; a son, Dean Gilmour and his wife, Cindy of Monticello; two grandchildren, Tyler Gilmour and Alexandra Catino; four sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States and Canada.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 2-4 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.

Wilson Sterling

Wilson “Mr. Bill” Sterling of Glen Spey, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at home. He was 84.
He was born February 24, 1923 in Otoe, Neb. the son of the late Leslie and the late Hazel Barton Sterling. He married Catherine Cheevers Sterling on December 9, 1962 in Hackensack, N.J.
He was a retired Service Manager for Hughes Environmental Engineering, Monsey. Bill proudly served his country in The U.S. Navy during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor.
He was a member of Roosa - Fleming V.F.W. Post No. 161, Port Jervis; Lumberland Senior Group, Highland Senior Group; Mohican Lake Civic Assoc.; RSVP - Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Sullivan County; Sullivan First of Lumberland and a Past Member of the Environmental Management Council in Lumberland. Bill was most recently the 2007 Recipient of the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce Pride Award.
A family statement reads: “Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a friend to all the neighborhood children, often teaching them to fish, catch worms, or giving them snacks. He was involved in his community and was loved by all because of his caring demeanor and sense of humor. We love him so much and he will be missed.”
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Catherine Sterling at home; son, Kenneth Sterling of Stockholm, Sweden; three daughters, Diane Wagner of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Carol Wickersheim of Hackensack, N.J., and Dale Sterling of New York; brother, James Sterling of Banning, Calif.; two sisters, Virginia Bystricki and her husband, Edward of Palm Dessert, Calif. and Marilou Thompson and her husband, Paul of Canyon City, Colo.; four grandsons, Robert Wickersheim and his fiance, Dana Ford of Hackensack, N.J. and Jazz Sterling Brown of New York; granddaughter, Joy Wickersheim of Hackensack, N.J.; four great grandchildren, Theresa, Alex, Alison and Ashley; also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leslie and his sister, Marguerite.
Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, Inc., 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis on Friday, May 18, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Richard Hotzler officiating.
Cremation will be at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa.

Doris H. Hesse
Ret. Pre-School Director, 89
Doris Hesse, beloved mother, mentor, and dear friend, died at home in April, 2007. She was 89 years of age.
A lifelong New Yorker, she had lived in Sullivan County for the past ten years. She was a compassionate, caring person who especially loved children and animals. After her children were grown, she started and ran a pre-school on Long Island which, under her direction, became known for its enriching, positive instruction, helping children reach their full potential in a creative and happy environment.
Doris is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Lynn Hesse of New York City and Star and Michael Lovelace of Narrowsburg; her brother, Don Hubbard of Coronada, California; several nieces, a nephew and a legion of friends of all ages. Everyone who knew her was happier for doing so.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Hesse.
There was a private cremation.

Dolores A. Mitchell
Retired Callicoon Hosp. RN, 84
Dolores A. Mitchell, 84, of State College, formerly of Wayne County, died Tuesday May 15, 2007 at the Hearthside Nursing Center.
Born December 26, 1922 in White Mills, PA, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Caroline Renken Rimlinger. On June 14, 1947, she married George R. Mitchell, who died October 5, 1971.
She graduated in 1940 from Honesdale Catholic High School and in 1944 from the Jersey City School of Nursing. She worked for 40 years as an R.N. at Callicoon General Hospital and Grover M. Hermann Hospital in Callicoon, retiring in 1984. She then worked part-time in a rural doctor’s office from 1987 to 1992.
She enjoyed knitting, reading, Siamese cats, swimming, the natural beauty of the Delaware River Valley and Wayne County, Pennsylvania in the Pocono Mountains and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn Mitchell and her husband Bruce Hwozdek of State College, her son Thomas Mitchell of State College, grandchildren, Jonathan Mitchell, Lindsay Keiter, Michael Mitchell, Whitney Keiter, her sisters Audrey Brundage of Honesdale, Claire Muench of Matamoras, Pa., her brother Henry Rimlinger and his wife Judy of Hawley, Pa., and a daughter-in-law, Georgia Mitchell, of Tyler Hill, Pa.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Mitchell in 1949 and Bruce Mitchell in 1985, and a brother, Lawrence Rimlinger, in 1944.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Kathleen Ann Kromholz of Bloomingburg, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at O.R.M.C. Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 47.
The daughter of Frances Pasquale Peroutka and the late Albert Peroutka, she was born April 1, 1960 in Astoria, Queens. She moved to the Bloomingburg area from Virginia to raise her family in 2003. She worked as a billing clerk for A.C.S. of Kingston.
A family statement reads, "Kathy will always be remembered for her love of family, children and animals. Kathy's heart was so huge that her mortal body couldn't sustain it any longer. We will miss her physical presence, but she will forever live in our hearts".
In addition to her mother, Kathy is survived by her three beloved children, Raman, Eric, and Cheyenne, all at home; three sisters, Cherylann DeLaurentis and her husband, Frank of Chester, Joan Schuck, and Anna Bakertcy and her significant other, Anthony; two nephews, two nieces and several aunts and uncles.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance was held Thursday evening at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown.
Cremation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Dorothy Kroop, 94
Dorothy Kroop, a longtime area resident, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2007 in Miami, Florida. She was 94.
Born in Brooklyn as Dorothy Reisner, she married Alfred Kroop and in the 1950’s, the family moved to the Ulster Heights area.
Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Weinsoff and her husband, Irving, of Miami, Fla., her son, Bernard Kroop, and his wife, Carol, of Loch Sheldrake; her daughter, Bella Tucci, and her husband, Joe, in Syracuse; her sister Anita Feldheim, and many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred, and her sister, Sylvia Leviton.
Family members are gathered in Florida, therefore, there was no local service.
