Alexander H. Luning
Retired Captain, 63

Alexander H. Luning of Co- checton, a retired Captain for the New York State Corrections and a lifelong resident of the area, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2007. He was 63.
The son of the late Alexander H. and Helene Bernas Luning Jr., he was born October 8, 1943 in Callicoon.
Alexander served in the Army as an MP and was proud of his Top Security Clearance. He was a graduate of Ulster County Community College where he received an associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. After graduating, he worked for four years as a Policeman in the Town of Liberty. Upon retiring from corrections after 25 years, he went to work for his cousin and best friend, John Bernas at JML Quarries. He was a past member of the Lake Huntington Fire Dept. and a member of the Elks Club as well as an avid golfer who played in many leagues.
A family statement reads, “Alexander was a loving father and grandfather and was a big part of the family. He had such a great smile and always a joke to follow. He was the life of the party and knew so many people. He will be missed greatly.”
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ann Luning; his daughter, Maureen Lowitz and her husband, Kip of North Branch; his son, Jonathan Luning and his girlfriend, Kim Jay of Lake Huntington; one grandson, Ayden Lowitz; three sisters, Suzanne Reed Stetka and her husband, Peter of Constantia, Helene Indelicato and her husband, Sal of Cochecton Center and Patricia Dirie of Hortonville; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, October 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier R.C. Church, Narrowsburg. Father William Scully O.F.M. will officiate.
Burial will follow at the parish cemetery.
Donations can be made to Cochecton Vol. Ambulance Corps, PO Box 4, Lake Huntington, NY 12752 or the Lake Huntington Fire Dept., PO Box 222, Lake Huntington, NY 12752.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home.

Franklin J. Bullis
Ret. Business Owner, 70

Franklin J. Bullis of Roscoe, the retired owner of Bullis Oil Company and a lifelong resident, died Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. He was 70.
The son of the late Frank M. and Dorothy B. Barrett Bullis, he was born May 4, 1937 in Roscoe.
Frank graduated from Roscoe Central School, Alfred University and Military Staff College; he served Our Country in the US Army from 1959-1961 and retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserve after 28 years. The last unit he served with was the 1160th Encom. He is a member and served as president for fifteen years with the Rockland Hose Co. #1; a member and past president of the Roscoe Kiwanis Club where he served as chairman of the Rifle Club for fifteen years; a member and past president of the Roscoe-Rockland Chamber of Commerce; a former Cub Scout Leader for over fifteen years; a member of the Cradle Rock Ridge Hunting Club; a member of the Hudson Valley Oil Dealers Assoc.; a member of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545; a Life member of the Floyd Keener American Legion Post #315; and a Life member of the Reserve Officers Assoc.
Survivors include one daughter, Michele Baladakis and her husband, John of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; one son, Chris Bullis and his wife, Kelly of Roscoe; one sister, Betty Bullis Shep Gibbons and her husband, Edward of Hanover, Pa.; his companion, Janet Fersch, at home; three grandchildren, Alexa Rae Bullis, Callie Barrett Bullis and Zoe Corinne Baladakis.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys I. Robosky, on March 26, 1989.
Funeral services were held October 4 at the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe. The Rev. Nancy Asbury officiated.
Burial with military honors was made in the Bon Air Cemetery, Roscoe.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Roscoe Community Nursing Home - Holiday Fund or the Patient’s Activity Fund, 420 Rockland Road, Roscoe, NY 12776.

Dolores M. Lonergan
Homemaker, 79

Dolores Marie Lonergan of Bloomingburg, died on Monday, October 1, at home. She was 79.
The daughter of the late James Dewitt Clinton Haines and Agnes Duquette Haines, she was born December 21, 1927 in Newburgh.
Dolores was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Bloomingburg, and an avid crafter. She was the most wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her loving family. Dolores was also a beloved member of her community, known for her sweet disposition.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Fossum of Dover, NJ, and Gail Lewis and her husband Ronnie of Bloomingburg; granddaughter, Yvette M. Goetz and her husband, Tommy, of Charlotte, NC; A grandson, Ben Miller of Bloomingburg; and A great-granddaughter, Megan Miller.
Dolores was predeceased by her husband, James, on May 16, 1998; her granddaughter, Erin Miller on October 25, 2002; and one sister, Jeanine Roos.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 4, at Our Lady of the Assumption in Bloomingburg. Fr. Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm., was the celebrant.
Cremation will be made at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Westchester/ Hudson Valley Chapter, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 330, White Plains, NY 10605.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown.

Margaret Abbott
Homemaker, 72

Margaret Abbott, a longtime resident of Newburgh, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence. She was 72.
Mrs Abbott was born May 18, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Edward and Agnes Timothy Kubina.
She graduated from the Newburgh Free Academy class of 1954. She was a homemaker and a former employee of the Dupont Company, and a former member of the Ladies Auxilliary of Cronomer Valley Fire Co.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Abbott at home; two sons, Robert Abbott and wife Sue of Rock Tavern, and Ken Abbott of Newburgh; a daughter, Pat Kennedy and husband Edward of Eldred; a brother, Edward Kubina and wife, Linda of Wallkill; two grandchildren, Kathleen Kennedy and Emily Abbott; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at White and Venuto Funeral Home, with Monsignor John Budwick officiating.
Burial followed in Gardnertown Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan counties, the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Harold A. Shafer
Contractor, 87

Harold A. Shafer of Cornwall, a self-employed contractor and lifetime area resident, entered into rest Monday, October 1, 2007 in St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall. He was 87.
He was born April 30, 1920 in Bloomingburg, the son of the late Allen and Ethel VanBuren Shafer. He was married to the late Elsie Shafer, who predeceased him in 1989.
Harold served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and earned the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, WWII Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Orphal and her husband, Alan of Newburgh and Cindy Shafer of New Windsor; his brother, Charles Shafer of Gardiner; his sister, Virginia Crawford of Wappingers Falls; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur, Kenneth, Alvin and Ralph Shafer, and his sisters, Hazel MacNary and Mary Young.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday in Brooks Funeral Home, Newburgh.
Burial of ashes will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Stella C. Schramm
Retired Secretary, 63

Stella C. Schramm of Sparrowbush, a retired medical records secretary for Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern. She was 63.
The son of the late David and Henrietta Apfel Friedman, she was born December 6, 1943 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of George Schramm.
Survivors include two daughters, Helene Schramm and companion James Pilegreno of Slate Hill, and Aimee Sandifer and husband James of Japan; two sons, David Schramm and his wife June of Blooming Grove, and Dennis Fountain and wife Lori of Glen Spey; five grandchildren, Jerry Medina, James, Harley Nathan and Jeannette; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her longtime companion, Eugene Fountain.
Interment will be private.
Funeral arrangements are by Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home.

Charlotte Delameter Bump
Homemaker, 80

Charlotte Delameter Bump of Livingston Manor, a lifetime area resident, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 2, 2007 at home with her loving family by her side after a long battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.
The only daughter of the late William Arthur Young and Daisy Gorr Young, she was born on October 24, 1926 in Equinunk, Pa. She was the widow of Philip Bump.
A family statement read, “Mom’s courage, strength, and ability to laugh and smile throughout her long ordeal were an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed now that the Lord has called one of his angels Home. She may be gone from our sight but will live forever in our hearts.”
Survivors include her daughters, Donna Lindahl of Cloquet, Minn., Cindy Balanovich and her fiancé, Kevin Bennett, of Wurtsboro, Melinda Wiley and her husband, Ken and Dawn Delameter, Tami Davis and her husband, Carl, Jr. all of Livingston Manor, Judy Frisbee and Patty McAdams; her beloved grandchildren, Kriistopher Velez of Poughkeepsie, Kaylee Velez, Dakota Delameter and Travis Davis of Livingston Manor, David Lindahl, Nicolette Lindahl and Kaci Lindahl of Cloquet, Minn. and David Bennett of Wurtsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Eugene and Francis Young; one daughter, Debbie Delameter; and one son, Dwayne Delameter.
Friends may call Friday, October 5th from 7-9 p.m. at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor.
Graveside Services will be held Saturday, October 6 at 10 a.m. at the Sullivan County Veteran’s Cemetery, Sunset Blvd., Liberty.

Eric Matthew Wilson
Sprinkler Fitter, 27

Eric Matthew Wilson, formerly of Middletown, died September 26, 2007 in Casa Grande, Ariz. He was 27.
The son of Douglas Fiore of Lamar, Ark. and Betty A. Fiore of Casa Grande, Ariz., he was born April 23, 1980 in Middletown.
Eric was a graduate of Casa Grande High School, Casa Grande, Ariz. with the class of 1999. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1999-2003, and served his country in the Iraq Freedom War.
Eric worked for Western State Fire Protection Co. in Phoenix, Ariz. as a sprinkler fitter. He enjoyed music, playing the drums, fishing and golf. Eric was a loving father and enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Wilson and his son, Caleb Ryan Wilson of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three brothers, Guy (Cheryl) Ford of Palm Springs, Fla., Rocky Ford of Glen Spey, Rusty (Lori) Wilson of Council Bluff, Iowa; sisters, Mary Alice (Edward) Newell of Albany, Bonnie (Mike) Jenning of Walton, and Joann (Wayne) Scott of Liberty, Jami Spoon of Arizona City, Ariz., Jodi Abraham and Jessica Trainer, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and his paternal grandparents, Rudy and Geri Fiore of Lamar, Arkansas.
Services were held in the Cole & Maud Gardens Chapel, Arizona.
Burial was made in the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, Ariz.
