Lucille M. Simon passed away on October 1, 2007 at the assisted living home, Bethany Village, Bethany, Pa. She was 81.
She was born August 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Bauer Simon.
In her younger years, she lived near Hankins and helped care for her parents and the family farm.
She enjoyed playing the old- fashioned games such as bingo, checkers (both regular and Chinese), old maid and dominoes. She liked visiting with her aunt, uncles and cousins and also picking strawberries, raspberries, huckleberries and blackberries.
Survivors include her sister, Verna Hess; her aunt, Florence Bauer; nephews, Timothy Hess, Dale Hess and wife Rebekah and their two children, Emma Rose and Jacob Hess, all of Callicoon; also numerous cousins.
Services were conducted by Mr. Russell Lail on October 4 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon.
Burial was made in Fremont Center Cemetery.

Walter E. Lovelace
Carpenter, 34
Walter E. Lovelace, born November 13, 1972 in Liberty, died September 26, 2007 after a long illness. He was 34.
A family statement reads, “Walter joined our family at the age of 10 and immediately found a place in our hearts. Walter worked for JML Quarries and Hydro Aluminum. He was skilled at ceramic tiling and carpentry. Walter not only threw himself into any project he was given, he also had a never-ending sense of humor and loved to play jokes. It seemed to be his mission in life to make you laugh.”
He graduated from Chapel Field Christian High School, Pine Bush, and LMN Trucking School.
He loved the stock cars, baseball, (trying out for the Marlins in Florida), the outdoors, hunting, hiking, camping, skate boarding, visiting the ocean and working at the sawmill with his Dad.
Walter is survived by his parents, Dorene and Jack Lovelace Jr. of Wawarsing; brothers, Kenneth W. Lovelace of Stuart, Fla., and Jack W. Lovelace III of Wawarsing; sisters, Tina K. Walton (James) and children, Austin, Lucas and Destiny, Clarksville, Tenn., Bernadette F. Lovelace and son, Dayvion of Ellenville, Lois C. Lovelace (Rob) and daughters Rozalynn and Victorya Schmidt of Ravena and Theresa J. Kiernan (Henry) and sons, Antwon and Terrence of Kerhonkson; grandmothers, Elsie C. Lovelace of Virginia and V. Janette Stanfield of Florida; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Jack W. Lovelace Sr. of Virginia and Joseph E. Stanfield of Florida; and a niece, Angelina Marie Kiernan of Kerhonkson.
Funeral services were held September 30. Peter Davis of the Community Bible Church, Wawarsing, officiated.
A private burial was made in the Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville.

Margaret Hartman
Retired Postmaster, 82
Margaret “Maggie” Toohey Hartman of Fallsburg, a lifetime resident, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center. She was 81 years old. The daughter of the late William and Mary Bertholf Toohey, she was born December 4, 1925 in Fallsburg.
After graduating from Hurleyville School, she was employed as a telephone operator during WWII. She was a home health aid, and finally retired after 38 years of service as Postmaster for the Hurleyville Post Office, and was very active in the Democratic Party.
A family statement read, “Maggie was everyone’s ‘Nanny’! She always gave her all in whatever she did and always put others before herself. Nanny was full of life and always brought joy and happiness to the room. Her favorite motto was ‘You can, you will, and you must!,’ which we will all live by. She will live in our hearts forever. We love you Nanny and Mom.”
Maggie leaves behind her son, Carl Hartman and his wife Gail Schlanger of Liberty; two Grandsons, Travis Hartman and his wife Diana of Woodbourne, Tyler Hartman of New York City; two granddaughters, Lacey Lautenschloger and her husband Eric of Albany, and Jenna Hartman of Woodbourne; three great-grandsons, Andrew, Austin and Aidan; two sisters, Mary Crowell of Vestel and Katherine Hussey of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Richard, Larry, William, and George Toohey.
Friends may call from 12-3 p.m. Saturday, October 6 at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne.
Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

John A. McGill Jr.
Ret. Hardwareman, 67
John Allen McGill Jr. of Grahamsville, a lifelong area resident, a retired hardware store owner and a former employee of Avon Products in New York City, died Monday, January 28, 2002, at his home, after a long battle with cancer. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late John Allen Sr. and Evelyn Brooks McGill, he was born June 24, 1934, in Nyack. He was the grandson of the late Helen Howard and William Edward Brooks and Patrick and Mary Edith Bowden McGill and was a ninth generation American.
Mr. McGill was a 3-year veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Far East Asia in both the U.S. Army Map Service and Army Intelligence. He was an exempt member of the W.S. Johnson Fire Department in Garnerville.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marion Bissert McGill, at home; a brother-in-law, Fred Bissert of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nephews, John Bissert of Colorado and Michael John McGill of Florida; two nieces, Nancy Bissert of Long Island and Valerie Ann McGill of Florida; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Dirk John McGill and a sister, Linda Evelyn McGill.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. McGill donated his body to the Albany Medical College.

Franklyn Smith of Cochecton died Monday, February 11, 2002, at his home.

Frank Sherwood
Ret. Businessman, 78
Frank "Sonny" Leslie Sherwood of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and the retired owner of the 4 Corners Inn in Liberty, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at his home. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late R. Leslie and Eva Norris Sherwood, he was born May 24, 1923, in Swan Lake.
A World War II veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, he was a member of the Clarence Hoyt Post No. 9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a charter member of the Catskill Chapter 583, International Order of Old Bastards, both in Liberty.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Hilda Somers of Liberty; a son, Richard Sherwood of Chicago, Ill; a stepson, Randy Somers of Anchorage, Alaska; two stepdaughters, Karen Ottino of Liberty and Kristeen Murtagh of Downington, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Jay Cross of Clearwater, Fla.; three sisters, Jennie Nolan of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Emmogene Travis of Liberty and Isabelle Freer of Delhi; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jean C. Sherwood, and a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Roy.
Services were held Saturday at Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Donna Lepsky officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Erna Juergensen
Housekeeper, 88
Erna Juergensen of Damascus, Pa., a retired housekeeper at the Grover M. Hermann Division of Community General Hospital in Callicoon, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of August and Sophie Preis Petersen, she was born September 6, 1913, in Plon, Germany. She was the widow of Gustav Juergensen.
Mrs. Juergensen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hankins and a member of the Delaware Valley Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gerd A. and Hilda Juergensen of Damascus, Pa.; a daughter, Marita Villicane of Asheville, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Orgenia Bremen of Germany; seven grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Knutsen officiating.
Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Homemaker, 82
Marion E. Reynolds of Roscoe, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, who moved to Florida after retirement and then returned to Roscoe four years ago, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Charles and Alice Dorman Metcalf, she was born April 14, 1919, in Middletown. She was the widow of Edward Reynolds.
Mrs. Reynolds was a past member of the Hurleyville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Clive and Joyce Metcalf of High Falls; a sister-in-law, Doris Reynolds of Livingston Manor; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Sharon.
Cremation was private.
A committal service will be held at the Hurleyville Cemetery in the spring.
