Architect, 51
Donald Prowler of Philadelphia, Pa., the son-in-law of Helen Kutsher and the late Milton Kutsher, an award-winning architect, consultant and member of the architectural faculty at Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at his home following a bout with kidney cancer. He was 51 years of age.
The son of Millard and Gloria Prowler, he was born November 10, 1950, in the Bronx and grew up in East Meadow, L.I.
His specialty was creating ecologically sound and energy-efficient building designs, passive solar designs and affordable housing. He was a visiting faculty member at Cornell University, and the universities of Virginia, Chicago and Washington. Mr. Prowler had received the prestigious Progressive Architecture Research Award and also an award from Architecture magazine as a co-developer of the publication, "Designing Low-energy Buildings." He won a number of national design awards in his private practice and in 1992 was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
Mr. Prowler served as board chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council from 1994-2000. He met his wife when he was a waiter at Kutsher's Country Club in Monticello. She is the assistant director of communications at the National Adoption Center in Philadelphia.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mady Kutsher Prowler, at home; two children, Matthew and Rachel Prowler; his parents of Haverford, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and David Levy of Wynnewood, Pa.; his mother-in-law of Monticello; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Carla Kutsher of Monticello; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karen and Jeffrey Wilson of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the family plot at the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research in Washington, D.C. or the National Adoption Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
Sally A.R. Kidney
Homemaker, 54
Sally Anne Rombousek Kidney of Wurtsboro, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, February 8, 2002, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 54 years of age.
The daughter of the late Michael Francis and Stella M. Dombrowski Rombousek, she was born November 30, 1947, in Goshen.
Mrs. Kidney was a member of St. John's R.C. Church in Goshen.
She is survived by a son, Thomas J. Kidney of Pine Bush; a brother, Frank J. Rombousek of Fair Oaks; an aunt, an uncle and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Johns R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen.
Burial will be private.

Gladys G. Kent
Homemaker, 83
Gladys G. Kent of Monroe, a homemaker and an 8-year area resident, formerly of Greenlawn, died Thursday, February 7, 2002, at her home. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late John Joyce and Mary MacInnis Forand, she was born February 5, 1919, in West Roxbury, Mass. She was the widow of Charles J. Kent.
Mrs. Kent is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Patrick Carsley of Monroe and Marilyn and Tom Bowring of Eldred; a sister, Rita Brady of Medway, Mass.; a granddaughter, Colleen; seven grandsons, Robert, James, Stephen, William, Craig, Daniel and Kevin; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Williams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe, with the Rev. George Pulparayil officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Huntington.
Vincent Theysohn
Ret. Switchman, 89
Vincent L. Theysohn of Callicoon, a retired switchman for the New York Telephone Company in New York City, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late Arthur and Anna Keegan Theysohn, he was born January 3, 1913, in New York City.
Mr. Theysohn was a member of Holy Cross Church in Callicoon and the New York Telephone Pioneers of America.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Maguire Theysohn, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret R. and Major General John R. Wood of Alexandria, Va., and Anne M. and Lieutenant General William J. Lennox Jr. of West Point; five grandchildren, Captain Matthew J. Lennox, Lieutenant Andrew J. Lennox, Jonathan W. Lennox, Anne Marie Wood and Margaret Lee Wood.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon with Father Ignatius Smith, OFM, officiating.
Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Section of the Callicoon Cemetery.

Rex Walter, 69

Rex Walter of Wawarsing, a retired correctional officer at the Eastern New York Correctional Facility in Napanoch and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, February 10, 2002, at the Ellenville Regional Hospital. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Earl and Geraldine Carr Walter, he was born March 15, 1932, in Phoenicia.
Mr. Walter was a member of the Napanoch Fire Company, the Ellenville Elks Lodge #1971 and Wawarsing Lodge #582, Free and Accepted Masons.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Walter is survived by his wife, Debra Hofsommer Walter, at home; a stepdaughter, Shawna Kelly of Westport, Conn.; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Loucks Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Miller officiating.
Cremation will be private with burial of the cremains at a later date.
Ethel Battersbee
Ret. Domestic Wkr., 97
Ethel Battersbee of Narrowsburg, a retired domestic worker and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty where she had resided for several years. She was 97 years of age.
Mrs. Battersbee was born June 17, 1904, in the British West Indies.
She is survived by many friends.
Graveside services and burial were held Thursday at the Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Thomas Jones officiating.

Chester B.B. Brooks
Ret. ARC Super, 82
Chester Belina Borzymowski Brooks, a 33-year resident of Greenfield Park and a retired line supervisor for the Sullivan ARC in Monticello, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Western Massachusetts Hospital in Westfield, Mass. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Stanislaw and Walentyna Pedzisz Borzymowski, he was born August 30, 1919, in Gdansk, Poland.
Mr. Brooks was a founder and first honorary president of Sport Club Vistula, a soccer club which still exists in New Jersey, and was a member of the New Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Adam Brooks, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Chester S. and Nancy Brooks of Mongaup Valley; a daughter and son-in-law, Regina and John Roscigno of Stevenson Ranch, Calif.; a brother, Aleksander Borzymowski and a sister, Alicja Strzelecki, both of Poland; five grandchildren, Marie, John and Christina Roscigno and Jason and Amy Brooks; and a great-grandson, Kyle Brooks Mangabang. He was predeceased by a sister, Krystyna Kanski who lived in Poland.
Private services were followed by cremation at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Alfred R. Keesler
Ret. Truck Driver, 67
Alfred Raymond Keesler of Monticello, a former resident of Callicoon, a retired truck driver for Sherwood Egg Farms in Galilee, Pa., and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Floyd and Mary Drum Keesler, he was born August 14, 1934, in Cochecton.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Keesler was a member of the Cochecton Fire Department and the Lake Huntington Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Jean Marie Cunningham of White Mills, Pa.; two sons, Richard Keesler of Claryville and Alfred Keesler of Japan; a sister, Phyllis Hull of Honesdale, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Saturday with the Rev. Paul Ruter officiating.
Burial will be made in the Glen Cove Cemetery in Narrowsburg.
