Ret. Salad Chef, 97
Sylvia Herwig of Livingston Manor, a retired salad chef for Grace Cruise Line in New York City and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 97 years of age.
She was born August 9, 1905, in Norwalk, Conn.
Mrs. Herwig was a member of the Livingston Manor Senior Citizens and the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Grahamsville.
She is survived by dear friends, Charles and Inga Lamb of Livingston Manor.
The Livingston Manor Senior Citizens will hold a memorial service later at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home in Livingston Manor.

Ruth C. Decker
Ret. Cafeteria Mgr., 85
Ruth C. Decker of Livingston Manor, a longtime area resident, a retired cafeteria manager and a retired clerk for the Motor Vehicle Department in Monticello, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at her home. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Henry and Josephine Boxberger Graff, she was born May 15, 1917, in Callicoon Center. She was the widow of Gilbert Joseph Decker who died in October of 1989 after 52 years of marriage.
Mrs. Decker was the cafeteria manager at St. Aloysius Parochial School for many years until it closed. She then worked for 18 years as a clerk for the Motor Vehicle Department in Monticello until her retirement.
A longtime parishioner of St. Aloysius Church in Livingston Manor, she was also a member and former officer of the Court Mary Anthony, Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Liberty, for many years.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Jane Decker Roche and her husband, James "Mickey," of Callicoon; a son, Michael Henry Decker and his wife, Nuha, of South Plainfield, N.J.; five grandchildren, Shawn James Roche and Kristi Lynn Roche, both of Manhattan, Kelly Leigh Decker Maren and her husband, Pete, Taryn Jayne Decker and Ryan Decker, all of South Plainfield, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Audrey Decker of Liberty; a brother-in-law, Ralph Eggler of White Sulphur Springs; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lorie Graff Reum of Callicoon and Louise Graff Eggler of White Sulphur Springs.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at St. Aloysius Church in Livingston Manor with Monsignor William Colins officiating.
Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Livingston Manor.

Terry A. Wilson
Logger, 32
Terry A. Wilson of Livingston Manor, a logger and lifelong area resident, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at his home. He was 32 years of age.
The son of Kathleen Chapman Wilson and the late George Wilson Jr., he was born June 24, 1972, in Liberty.
He is survived by his mother and her companion, Barry Klein, of White Sulphur Springs; a son, Tyler Wilson and his mother, Jody Minton; his paternal grandmother, Helen Wilson of Lava; a sister, Tammy "Mimi" Wilson and her companion, Damon Knack, and two nephews, Jeremy and Joshua Knack, all of White Sulphur Springs; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion Sportster.
Funeral services will be held at the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church at noon on Tuesday with Pastor Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
Kurt Englehard
Ret. Dairy Farmer, 85
Kurt Englehard, a lifelong resident of Manchester Township, Pa., and a retired dairy farmer, died Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa. He was 85 years of age.
The son of the late Hans and Hermine Worster Englehard, he was born August 7, 1919, in Manchester Township, Pa.
He was a 1937 graduate of the Callicoon High School.
Mr. Englehard is survived by his wife, Irmgard "Inga" Depta Englehard, at home; a son, Mark Englehard and his wife, Marilyn; and a grandson, Noah Englehard.
Private cremation was made
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
Drew A. Fischer
Salesman, 51
Drew A. Fischer of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a salesman for Home Depot of Middletown, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at his home. He was 51 years of age.
The son of the late Andrew F. and Kathryn Krum Fischer, he was born February 26, 1953, in Liberty.
Mr. Fischer was an avid NASCAR fan and cheered for Tony Stewart. He also enjoyed bowling.
He is survived by his wife, Allyson M. Brooks Fischer, at home; three sons, Robert Fischer of Callicoon, Derek A. Haberzettl, on active duty in the U.S. Navy, and Ryan C. Haberzettl, on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps; two daughters, Christine Fischer-Jones and her husband, Jason, of Liberty, and Rachel A. McGrath and her husband, Paul, of Virginia; a sister, Dawn Fulton and her husband, Emmitt, of Bethel; and four grandchildren, Jason, Kelly and Daina Jones and Cameron McGrath.
Funeral services were held Monday evening at the Harris Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Duncan Truman officiating.

Madeleine Banta
Owned Banta's Mill, 89
Madeleine F. Banta, a one-and-a-half year resident of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Holiday, Fla., a former resident of Claryville and the retired co-proprietor with her husband of Banta's Mill in Grahamsville, died Sunday, January 9, 2005, at Hospice of Martin & St. Lucie Counties, Inc. in Florida. She was 89 years of age.
Born November 30, 1915, in Claryville, she was the widow of Roger Banta.
Mrs. Banta has also been a buyer for ladies' wear in Liberty and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grahamsville.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Grey of Stuart, Fla.; two grandchildren, Gregory Grey of Normal, Ill., and Beth Ann Mickelson of Neversink; and four great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in New York.

Neil D. Bell Sr.
Ret. Machinist, 77
Neil David Bell Sr. of Port Orange, Fla., a retired machinist and a former 30-year resident of White Lake, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at the Halifax Hospital in Port Orange, Fla. He was 77 years of age.
He was born May 8, 1927, in Fort Lee, Canada. He was the widower of Rosemary "Rosie" Bell.
Mr. Bell was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and served in China. He was also a member of the White Lake Fire Company and the Bethel Seniors Model Flying Club. After retiring from the VAW of America, he moved to Port Orange in 1996, where he was an active member of the Moose, Eagle and Elks clubs.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Bell, at home; two sons and their wives, James and Janet Bell of Wappingers Falls and Neil D. Jr. and Olga Bell of White Lake; three grandchildren, Jennifer Rose, Raquel Olga and Jill Marie; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Renee. He was predeceased by a daughter, Anne "Kathy" Bell.
Alavon Direct Cremation Service of South Daytona was in charge of his cremation.
A memorial service will be held in White Lake for family and friends at a date and time to be announced.
Margaret King
Housekeeper, 65
Margaret A. King of Monticello, a housekeeper and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, January 6, 2005, at her home. She was 65 years of age.
The daughter of the late Albert and Susie Lamberton Swingle, she was born November 20, 1939, in South Canaan, Pa. She was the widow of Thomas R. King.
Mrs. King was a veteran of the U.S. Army where she served as an LPN.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Donald DeFazio Jr. of Monticello; two step-sons, Tom King and Bill King, both of Monticello; three brothers, Friend Swingle, Nathaniel Swingle and Layton Swingle; four sisters, Marge Bianchi, Glenna Rollison, Beverly Swingle and Alberta Horst; three grandchildren, Nicole, Brittany and Alex; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Robert, two brothers, Grant and Tracy, and a sister, Lois.
Services were held Monday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating.
Burial was made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.

Homemaker, 89
Elizabeth Winner of Livingston Manor, a homemaker and a longtime area resident, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late William and Rebecca Meldrum Taylor, she was born November 2, 1915, in Elyria, Ohio. She was the widow of both Harry S. Smith and Ward Winner.
Mrs. Winner is survived by two sons, Dale S. Smith of Livingston Manor and Dean A. Smith of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, David Taylor of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ann Taylor.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, on Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. Gene Smith officiating.
Interment will be private.
