Ret. Nurses' Aide, 83
Margaret Morrissey of Middletown, a retired nurses' aide at the Horton Hospital in Middletown, died Friday, March 7, 2003, at St. Teresa's Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Felice and Filomena Grosso Stallone, she was born June 26, 1919, in Yonkers. She was the widow of William J. Morrissey II.
She is survived by six sons, Clint Morrissey of Middletown, Richard Morrissey of New Jersey, Philip Morrissey of White Plains, Salvatore Morrissey of West Palm Beach, Fla., Dennis Morrissey of White Plains and James Morrissey of the Hamlet of Wallkill; a daughter, Margaret Morrissey of Bloomingburg; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Anna Schiavone of Yonkers; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William J. Morrissey III; two brothers, Anthony and Salvatore Stallone, and two sisters, Dorothy Catchatore and Lena Bonnano.
A private memorial service will be held following cremation.
Lillian Koslow
Ret. Masseuse, 82
Lillian Koslow, a former resident of Liberty, Monticello and Ellenville, died March 4, 2003, in the State of Florida. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Morris and Esther Grau Lerner, she was born December 4, 1920, in New York City. She was the widow of William Koslow who died in mid-January 2003 after 48 years of marriage.
Mrs. Koslow was an assistant governess at the Concord Hotel during the 1940s and 1950s.
She attended The Swedish Massage Institute in Manhattan and became a licensed medical masseuse in 1970, after which she was employed by the Brickman Hotel, the Windsor Hotel and the Fallsview Hotel. She retired to Delray Beach, Florida, in 1994 with her husband.
Mrs. Koslow is survived by a daughter, Estajo Koslow, an attorney in Brooklyn; and two sisters, Mildred Himmelstein and Dorothy Green, both of Palm Beach County, Fla. She was predeceased by a son, Harvey Koslow, who died in March of 2000.
Burial was made at Beth David Gardens Levitt Weinstein Chapel in Hollywood, Fla.
Chrissoula Thomopoulos
Ret. Fashion Dsgn., 66
Chrissoula "Soula" Thomopoulos, a 29-year resident of Montgomery, a retired fashion designer and dress and gown maker, and former resident of Nausa and Athens, Greece, died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the Nyack Hospital. She was 66 years of age.
The daughter of the late Dimitrios and Maria Zambouly Kentimenos, she was born July 6, 1936, in Nausa, Greece.
Mrs. Thomopoulos immigrated to the United States from Athens, Greece, in 1972 and raised her family in Montgomery.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many and will be missed dearly by all who knew her."
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sophia and Guy J. Romano of Montgomery and Maria Magdalene and Carmine N. Rotundo of Bloomingburg; a sister, Despina Misantonis of Haverstraw; three brothers, Niko, Achilles and George Kentimenos, all of Greece; and six grandchildren, Niko, Robert, Carmine R., Guy, David and Nicholas. She was predeceased by a brother, Janni Kentimenos.
Friends may call at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, 72 West Main St., Middletown on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Middletown.
Burial will be made in the Wallkill Cemetery in Wallkill.
Bette Ann Kurthy
Bank Manager, 60
Bette Ann Kurthy of Kiamesha Lake, a branch manager for Key Bank in Monticello and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris after a sudden illness. She was 60 years of age.
The daughter of the late Carl and Norma Greenfield Schock, she was born May 14, 1942, in Monticello.
Mrs. Kurthy graduated from Monticello High School in 1960. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and was always active in organizing Monticello school reunions. She was also a member of the Shady Brook Hunting Camp.
In a family statement, it was said, "Bette Ann loved and adored her grandchildren, Kristin, Andrea, Michael, Justin, Allison and Dana. She dedicated her life to being a universal 'grandma' to countless children and always helping those around her. She was the wind beneath all of our wings."
She is survived by her husband of over 39 years, Thomas Robert Kurthy, at home; one daughter, Karen Ann DeFeo of Voorheesville, and her daughters, Kristin and Andrea and her companion Ty Moore; two sons, Kevin Carl Kurthy and his wife, Ann Marie, and their daughters, Allison and Dana, and Keith Thomas Kurthy and his fiancée Priscilla Serrano, and their sons, Michael and Justin; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert Norman and Susan Schock of Livermore, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; an extended family and an extraordinary family of close friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church, Broadway and Liberty St., Monticello, with Fr. Timothy Wiggins officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Robert E. Quinn
Ret. Teacher, 70
Robert E. Quinn of Montague, N.J., a longtime area resident and a retired English teacher for the Sparta (N.J.) School District, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at his home. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late William B. and Evelyn Duff Quinn, he was born February 9, 1933 in Jersey City, N.J.
Mr. Quinn earned his undergraduate degree from St. Peter's College in Jersey City and his master's degree from Fordham University in New York City.
As an Eagle Scout, he had achieved the Order of the Arrow and recently published a book, "On My Honor," about his scouting experiences at Camp Henry Kohl at High Point State Park, N.J. His first book was "In the Shadow of the Phoenix."
He was a member and an Eucharistic Minister of St. James The Greater R.C. Church in Montague, N.J.; served nine years on the Montague Township Board of Education and three years on the Montague Township Committee. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Quinn is survived by his wife of 44 years, Regina Miller, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, J. R. and Michelle Quinn of Voorhees, N.J.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kate and Bill Sutton of Campbell Hall and Mary and Frank Giorgianni of Wurtsboro; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William B. and Amelia Quinn and Thomas A. and Connie Quinn, all of Montague, N.J., and John P. and Marilyn Quinn of Toms River, N.J.; a grandson, Dylan Nicholas Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Montague, N.J. on Thursday with the Rev. A. Richard Carton officiating.
Burial was made in the Minisink Reformed Church Cemetery in Montague, N.J.

Rose Gibber, 80
Ret. Teacher/Principal
Rose Gibber of Monticello died Thursday, March 6, 2003, at the Beth Israel Hospital in New York City after a six-month illness. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Rabbi Shmuel and Genendel Mowshowitz Yaakov, she was born May 21, 1922, in Kovel, Poland. She was the widow of Morris Gibber.
At the age of 7, the family moved to America and after a brief stay in New York City, moved to Albany where her father was chief Rabbi of the city. She and her twin sister graduated from Albany High School as salutatorian and valedictorian, respectively.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, Phi Beta Kappa, she majored in languages and subsequently held teaching positions in the Yeshiva of Hartford, Conn., and the Manhattan Day School.
Upon her marriage to Morris Gibber, she and her husband made their home in Monticello where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Mrs. Gibber taught in and later became principal of the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan and Ulster Counties for 28 years. She and her husband both served on its board of directors and Mrs. Gibber was president of its Women's Council. Together with her husband, she was an active member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue, serving on its board and the Jewish Burial Society, helping countless people receive their final honor.
In a family statement, it was said, "Rose Gibber was a loving, warm-hearted, vibrant and witty person who brought good cheer to the heartbroken and gave assistance to anyone in need. Her neighbors, friends, relatives and all who came in contact with her loved her, as she loved everyone else. Her loving memory will never be forgotten."
She is survived by her twin sister, Frieda Pusin of New Jersey; three sons, Rabbi Eliezer Gibber of Providence, R.I., Rabbi Chaim Gibber of Minneapolis, Minn., and Rabbi David Gibber of Brooklyn; a daughter, Malka Paretzky of Monsey; more than 36 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Burial was made in the Landfield Avenue Synagogue Cemetery in Monticello on March 6.

Ret. Nurse Teacher
Cornelia J. Case of Cuddebackville, a retired school nurse teacher for the Monticello School District and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 10, 2003, at the Middletown Park Manor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was 100 years of age.
The daughter of the late Stoll and Daisy Bensley Jagger, she was born January 8, 1903, in Dingman's Ferry, Pa. She was the widow of Bassett Case who died November 23, 1936.
Mrs. Case was a graduate of the former Deerpark Hospital in Port Jervis and received her registered nursing degree.
She was a member of the Cuddebackville Reformed Church, NYS Retired Teachers Association, Forestburgh Senior Citizens, a life member and founding member of the Neversink Valley Grange No. 1530, Patrons of Husbandry, in Huguenot, and a member of the River Valley Chapter No. 33, Order of the Eastern Star, in Port Jervis.
She is survived by two daughters-in-law, Billie Mae Case and Marie Case, both of Cuddebackville; six grandchildren, Jody Case-Kennedy of Montague, N.J., Marilyn Lounsbury of Kerhonkson, Lorelei Case of Cuddebackville, and Belinda Kowal, Tammy Olenick and Charles Case, all of Port Jervis; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Bassett Case and Harold "Jake" Case; five brothers, Russell, Richard "Stoney," Ralph, Stoll Jr. and Warren Jagger; and five sisters, Bonnie DiBiase, Edna Lutz, Flora Smith, Daisy Jagger and Hazel Myck.
A memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m. on Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Port Jervis with the Rev. Betsy Diver officiating.

Joseph Washousky
Ret. Stone Mason, 77
Joseph Washousky, a 60-year resident of Liberty and a retired stone mason for Local 5 in Poughkeepsie, died suddenly on Tuesday, March 11, 2003, in South Fallsburg. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Michael and Anna Macharsky Washousky, he was born April 5, 1925, in Coaldale, Pa. He was the widower of Angela "Nellie" Washousky who died in May of 1993.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Washousky was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in South Fallsburg and a 50-year member of the American Legion in Pennsylvania.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will always be remembered for his love and dedication to his family, his faithful following of Christ, his witty sense of humor and his love of children."
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Jordan of Jeffersonville and Susan Mootz of Hurleyville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Ann Washousky of the Bronx and Russell and Connie Washousky of Landsford, Pa.; two sisters, Helen Machay of Coaldale, Pa., and Mary Smith of Bethlehem, Pa.; three grandchildren, Justin and Kristina Mootz and Kristi Kern; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Washousky who died in September of 2002.
Services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Rt. 42, South Fallsburg on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joan LaLiberte and Rev. Ninon Hutchinson officiating.
Burial will be made with full military honors in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.
