Lillian L. Sunnekalb, a homemaker of Liberty, died Wednesday, May 20, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 96.
The daughter of the late Charles and Mary Ellen Cuff Holmes, she was born November 20, 1910 in Sparkill. She was the widow of Edward Joseph Sunnekalb who died in 1963.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Monticello.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Harold Shrader of Kauneonga Lake, Jean and Martin Simmons of Northvale, NJ, and Mary Jane and Fred Latronica of West Milford, NJ; 28 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 39 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 12 brothers and sisters; two sons, Edward and Anthony Sunnekalb; and three grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at St. Peter’s Church in Monticello. The Rev. Robert Ginel will be the celebrant. Burial will follow at Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, NJ.
James E. Vandervoort
Retired Lineman, 83
James “Smiley” Vandervoort, a 60-year area resident, passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 83.
The son of James and Mary Martin Vandervoort, he was born August 6, 1923 in New York City.
He was retired after 32 years as a lineman for NYSEG in Liberty. He was the Admissions Manager at Monticello Raceway for 40 years, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1946, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also a lifetime member of the Bailey-Richman VFW Post 9288.
A family statement reads, “For those who knew Jim Van, he will best be remembered as ‘one of a kind.’ He was never afraid to speak his mind. You always knew what he was thinking. He just celebrated his 57th wedding anniversary with the love of his life, Shirley. They were practicalley inseparable; they shared a passion for golf and well-deserved winters in sunny Florida. He was a beloved father who taught his children the value of hard work, strength and honesty. His favorite pasttime was golf. You would often see him on the fairway, enjoying a round with his friends. Jim will be sadly missed but fondly remembered.”
He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley, at home; a son, Glenn Vandervoort and his fiance Sandy Rinehart of Apopka, Fla.; two daughters, Mari McMahon and her husband, Michael, of Liberty, Missouri and Jaime Vandervoort and her husband John Sohns of Rock Hill; and one grandson, James Surrette; his granddog, Ice Cream, and his grandcat, Splash.
He was predeceased by a sister, Jennie Suhaka.
Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 3534 State Rt. 55, Kauneonga Lake. VFW services will be held at 4 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.
Cremation will be made at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Julianna Conklin, 1
Julianna Conklin of Newburgh died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 1 year of age.
The daughter of Nicholas R. Jr. and Christina L. Dayton Conklin, she was born March 1, 2003, in Valhalla.
She is survived by her parents and a sister, Hailey Conklin, all at home; her paternal grandparents, Barbara and Gil Catabay of Wurtsboro; her maternal grandmother, Cindy Lyons of Newburgh; her paternal great-grandparents, Eleanor and Walter Conklin of Chester and Wiltrud Hughes of Pine Bush; her maternal great-grandparents, Mary and George Lorditch of Newburgh; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her paternal grandfather, Nicholas R. Conklin Sr.
Sevices were held Friday at the Smith, Seaman and Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe with the Rev. Vincent Howley officiating.
Burial was made in the Monroe Cemetery.
Joan Powell
Ret. Supervisor, 77
Joan Powell of Lew Beach, a retired housekeeping supervisor at the Montrose Veterans Hospital and an author, died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at her home. She was 77 years of age.
The daughter of the late John J. and Ida Mae Wilson Connolly, she was born October 13, 1925, at the Manhattan Lying-In Hospital. She was the widow of James Powell who died May 23, 1978.
Mrs. Powell grew up in the Highbridge section of the Bronx and attended school and the Union Reformed Church of Highbridge.
Upon retiring to Lew Beach, Mrs. Powell co-authored a history book titled "Beaverkill Valley, a Journey Through Time."
She is survived by two sons, John H. Powell and his wife, Dee, of Brooksville, Me., and James A. Powell of Lew Beach; two granddaughters, Caitlin and Jenny; a sister-in-law, Anne Powell MacInnes; a niece, Donna Glancey, and her sons, Shawn and Jason; a nephew, James MacInnes; and many friends.
A memorial service will be held on July 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Lew Beach Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Loizeaux officiating. A reception and celebration of her life will follow at the Beaverkill Valley Fire House. All friends and acquaintances are welcome to attend.

Helen Prindiville VanTyle of Gahanna, Ohio, a homemaker and a former longtime resident of Bethel, died Friday, March 14, 2003, in Gahanna. She was 89 years of age.
Mrs. VanTyle was the widow of William L. VanTyle.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen and Bruce Stassfurth and Joan and Bernard Hanlon; a son, Demmon VanTyle; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Julie Prindiville and Rita Fitzgerald.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, March 18, at the Newman Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel.

Joseph Shkoditch of Mountaindale, a pressman, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 63 years of age.
The son of the late Alexander and Susan Kundla Shkoditch, he was born January 19, 1940, in New York City.
He is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Sophi and George Kwoka of Mountaindale; a brother, Alexander Shkoditch of Levittown, L.I.; five nephews and their spouses, George Jr. and Helene Shkoditch of Mountaindale, John and Regina Shkoditch of Staten Island, Alexander Jr. and Susan Shkoditch and Paul Shkoditch, all of Levittown, and Frank and Diane Shkoditch of Happauge, L.I.; a niece, Suzanne Lewis and her husband, Stephen of Greenwich, Conn.; 14 grandnieces and grandnephews, Matthew, Adam. Christopher, Andrew, Gregory, Michael, Stephen, Kristen, Nicole, Courtney, Daniel, Jennifer, Alexandria and Robert. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Zeppa.
Services will be held Tuesday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Ellenville with Fr. Nicholai Babistchouck.
Burial will be made in the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.

Leona E. Poppo of Oak Ridge, a homemaker and a 58-year area resident, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at her home. She was 72 years of age.
The daughter of Walter and Ethel Yost Lewis, she was born July 27, 1930, in Frackville, Pa.
Mrs. Poppo was a member of the Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cook-Taylor Post #111, American Legion, both in Ellenville.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Poppo, at home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Melony of Bakersville, N.C., William and Barbara Poppo of Woodstock, Allan and Merrill Poppo of Charlotte, N.C., and Joseph and Kathleen Poppo of Parksville; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Linda Kearn of Spring Glen, Bonnie and Peter Doolittle of Oak Ridge, Lisa and Samuel Nadiak of Ellenville and Christy and Donald Awe of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, Sonny Poppo, Nicole Schleif, Vinny Poppo, Rosie Poppo, Ashlee Poppo, Rebekka Doolittle, Erica Poppo, Adam Nadiak, Jessica Ropke, Amanda Doolittle, Kristen Poppo, Kimberly Poppo, Brenna Doolittle, Jullian Nadiak, Alex Awe, Olivia Awe and Joseph Poppo; a brother, Robert Lewis of Kerhonkson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew in Ellenville.
Burial will be made in the Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville.
Anthony J. Veling
Plumber, 37
Anthony J. Veling of Bloomingburg, a self-employed plumber for T.J. Installation in Bloomingburg and former resident of Upper Saddle River, N.J., died Friday, March 14, 2003, He was 37 years of age.
Mr. Veling was a member of the Upper Saddle River Ambulance Corps in New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Rohe Veling; a daughter, Nicole; his mother and stepfather, Virginia (Evans) and Marinus Outslay; a brother, Michael; and his grandmother, Virginia Evans. He was predeceased by a brother, Albert.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the VanEmburgh-Sneider Funeral Home in Ramsey.
Entombment will be made at the George Washington Memorial Park Cemetery.

James Pritchard
Ret. NYPD Det., 74
James Pritchard of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Wurtsboro Hills, a former resident of Mineola and a retired New York Police Department detective, died Saturday, March 8, 2003, in Florida. He was 74 years of age.
Mr. Pritchard was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and the Broward County (Fla.) 10-13 Club.
In a family statement, it was said, "He will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Thank you, Daddy."
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lillian Pritchard; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Donald Angerer of Brandon, Fla.; two sons, Vincent Pritchard of Walton, and Kirk and his wife, Kathleen Pritchard of Montgomery; 10 grandchildren, Vincent, James, Michael, Christopher, Vanessa, Erik, Karli, Taylor, Ryan and Casey; a sister, Dorothy Quit, and a brother, John Pritchard, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James Pritchard.
