A memorial service for Peter H. Jackson, who died Monday, March 3, 2003, at his home, will be held Saturday, April 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in North Branch. Rev. Kristen Anderson will officiate.
Friends are invited to attend a reception afterwards in the undercroft of the church.
John Bauer
Ret. Pub Owner, 69
John Bauer of Swan Lake, a longtime area resident and the retired owner of the Liberty Pub, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at his home. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late John and Alice Gillen Bauer, he was born October 12, 1933, in the Bronx. He was the widower of Beatrice McCloskey Bauer who died May 24, 2001.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the aircraft carrier Midway during the Korean War.
Mr. Bauer was a member of St. Peter's Church, Elks Lodge #1545, Liberty Masonic Lodge #521, F.&A.M., and the I.O.O.B., all in Liberty.
He is survived by a son, Edward Bauer of Callicoon; three daughters, Maryann Wood of Napanoch, Theresa Bauer of White Sulphur Springs and Catherine Bauer of East Moriches; and six grandchildren, Christopher Wood, Norma Jean Wood, Samantha Wood, Jason Davey, Danielle Lacek and George Lacek.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:45 a.m. on Friday at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty with the Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.
Burial will be made at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty with full military honors.

Dr. D.J. Nebzydoski
Veterinarian, 29
Dr. David J. Nebzydoski of Pleasant Mount, Pa., a veterinarian, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at his home. He was 29 years of age.
The son of Dr. Henry J. Jr. and Jean Glavich Nebzydoski, he was born September 25, 1973, in Carbondale, Pa.
A graduate of Forest City High School in 1991 and the University of Scranton in 1995, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1999. Dr. Nebzydoski was a member of St. James Church in Pleasant Mount.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a caring person who loved his family and friends and enjoyed all animals and the outdoors. He touched many people in his life and will be missed by all who knew him."
He is survived by his fiancée, Carol Ann Murphy; his parents of Pleasant Mount, Pa.; five brothers, Mark of Waymart, and Daniel, Thomas, Andrew and Christopher, all of Pleasant Mount, Pa.; two sisters, Dr. Beth Spinelli of Thompson, Pa., and Kathryn of Pleasant Mount, Pa.; his maternal grandfather, William Glavich of Vandling, Pa.; a niece; and several aunts, uncles and cousins, including Dr. Joseph Nebzydoski of Jeffersonville. He was predeceased by a sister, Amy Jean, in 1975; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Glavich, and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Mary Nebzydoski.
A Funeral Mass was offered at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount on Tuesday with the Rev. Richard Beck officiating.
Interment in St. James Cemetery in Pleasant Mount will be announced.

Adolph M. Holzman
Ret. Businessman, 80
Adolph M. Holzman of Beach Lake, Pa., died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 15, 2003. He was 80 years of age.
The son of the late Max and Mary Kozlowski Holzman, he was born in South Gibson. Pa.
Mr. Holzman attended the Beach Lake United Methodist Church. For many years he owned and operated the Midway Trucking Company in Kinnelon, N.J. In 1979, he and his wife moved to Cochecton where they ran Adolph's Tavern until retiring in 1984 and moving to the Beach Lake, Pa. area. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army.
In a family statement, it was said, "He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was devoted to his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren."
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie Wells Holzman, at home; three sons, Dale A. Holzman of Abrahamsville, Pa., and Douglas G. Holzman and his wife, Doris Smiley, and David N. Holzman, all of Beach Lake, Pa.; two daughters, Kathleen M. Green and her husband, Robert, of Oakridge, N.J., and Bonnie S. Davis of Beach Lake, Pa.; a brother, Norman Holzman of Brooklyn; three sisters, Sylvia Masiuk of Clifford, Pa., Maxine Wademan of Apalachin, and Christie Holzman Tarbin of Milton, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Emma Mikolon.
Services were held Wednesday at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home in Honesdale, Pa., with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Weightman, pastor of the Beach Lake United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment was made in the Calkins Cemetery.

Ernest Rutledge, 59

Ernest Rutledge of Tyler Hill, Pa., a beef farmer and lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at his home. He was 59 years of age.
The son of the late Jacob and Alice Peek Rutledge, he was born June 21, 1943, in Callicoon.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was an avid hunter. Mr. Rutledge worked for many years at Agway in Callicoon as a crop sales specialist. He was currently employed by Crop Production Services as a crop advisor and was known as a sound source of advice on seed, fertilizer and pesticide recommendations. He developed a low phosphorus corn starter which saves farmers money as well as helping them follow tighter guidelines in nutrient management.
In 2002, he received the Cooperator of the Year Award from the Sussex (N.J.) County Soil Conservation District for his outstanding accomplishments in resource conservation.
He is survived by his companion, Jeanne Hector and her two children, Cody and Tyler, at home; four children, Julie Rutledge, RN, of Honesdale, Pa., Dr. David Rutledge and his wife, Michele, and Daniel Rutledge and his wife, Jennifer, all of Rileyville, Pa., and Scott Rutledge of Girdland, Pa.; two brothers, Amos Rutledge of Rutledgedale, Pa., and Howard Rutledge of Wellsboro, Pa.; five grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, Corey, Jonathan, Alec and Brooke; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday evening at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. Arthur Harshman of Hospice St. John officiating.

Carl Edwards
Ret. Truck Driver, 66
Carl Edwards of Chester, a retired truck driver for Orange County Packing in Chester and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, in Middletown. He was 66 years of age.
The son of the late John and Caroline Babcock Edwards, he was born August 18, 1936, in Chester. He was the widower of Agnes P. Conklin Edwards.
He is survived by two sons, Carl II and his wife, Sharon Edwards, of Bloomingburg, and John Edwards of Chester; four daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Paul Joyce of Franklin, N.J., Carol and Mark Baird of Chester, Lisa and Dominick Zaccagnino of Montgomery; and Carla and John Damiano of Goshen; a sister, Jeanette Hall of Arkansas; 13 grandchildren, Mikey, Chris, Vinnie, Kaylee, Nikki, Matthew, Mandi, Dominick, Heather, Dakota, Taylor, Cory and Alaina; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Les Edwards, Frank Edwards and Lenny Edwards.
Services were held Thursday evening at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Funeral Home in Monroe with the Rev. James D. Ernest officiating.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

James W. Bieniek of Hankins, a longtime area resident and a worker at the Villa Roma County Club in Callicoon, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at his home. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late John and Sophie Grygo Bieniek, he was born June 21, 1941, in Queens.
He is survived by a brother, William Bienik of Queens; and a sister, Jeanne Ullman of Wisconsin.
Interment was made on Thursday in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Long Eddy.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon.
Alice M. Collins

Alice M. Collins of Bloomingburg, a retired operator for New York Telephone Co. and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the Middletown Park Manor. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret Clark, she was born February 15, 1911, in New York City. She was the widow of both Cornelius Boylan and Francis Collins.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Bloomingburg and had lived in that village about 43 years.
She is survived by a sister, Madeline Kacharba of Massapequa, L.I.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Collins; two sons, Richard Boylan and Cornelius Boylan Jr., and three sisters, Marie, Lilly and Margaret.
A Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, High St., Bloomingburg with Fr. Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm., officiating.
Burial will be made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery.

Elvira King Grant of Monticello, a self-employed cosmetologist and a longtime area resident, died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Daisy Cobb Gilbert, she was born October 15, 1909, in Unadilla, Ga.
Mrs. Grant was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Fla., where the Rev. Derek King is pastor.
She is survived by her husband, Marshall Grant, at home; a son, Elwood and his wife, Ethel King, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Josephine Baldwin.
Services were held Thursday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. James Matthews officiating.
Burial was made in the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Monticello.
