Samuel Grosberg
Teacher, 100

On December 26, 2006, the family of Samuel Judah Grosberg of Hurleyville watched with intense pain the passing of a most beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. Though he had passed his 100th birthday on November 6, his family was grateful for the additional days that they were granted.
Judah, as he was lovingly called, taught mathematics for 47 years to students in NYC’s best schools and always relished praising the students for their love of learning. He was as young a teacher as most of the students, and was almost rejected as a teacher because of his youth. He also taught aerial navigation and was a champion chess player. His lifelong knowledge and love of Judaism enabled him to speak freely about it, and no doubt influenced his grandsons to earn their degrees as Rabbis. Judah and the former Sally Efromson were married 28 years ago and lived in Hurleyville and Florida.
Grieving for him are his wife Sally; his daughter, Debbie Rothberger and her husband, Rabbi Joseph Rothberger; his son, Rabbi Robert Grosberg; his ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and all of Sally’s family who loved him dearly.
A graveside eulogy was delivered in Queens December 27 by son-in-law, Rabbi Rothberger.
In a family statement, it was said, “We shall always miss beloved Judah, because he touched so many people in his lifetime. He made the world a better place. May his memory be for a blessing.”
