On August 26, 2007, Ruth Marie Magie of Forestburgh entered into eternal rest at Saint Joseph’s Nursing Home with her loving family by her side.
She was born in New York City. Her parents were the late Elizabeth E. Declercq and Michael J. Declercq.
She was the widow of Melvin T. Starr. Melvin and Ruth were married for 38 years and had five children.
She was educated at St. Francis DeSales school in the Bronx and graduated from Monticello High School. As a long time member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and a devout Roman Catholic she shared her values and faith with her family and neighbors.
Ruth was employed by Key Bank, formerly National Union Bank for over twenty years. She enjoyed customer service and working with her fellow bankers at the Broadway, Monticello Branch.
For nineteen years she was the wife of a devoted husband, John Magie. She retired from banking in 1988 and enjoyed her retirement years with her husband John. They were especially happy in their Florida home to which they traveled each winter.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cooking for her family. She had a great love of fashion in both clothing and home decorating. She loved the ocean and dancing.
Her daughters were proud to have her as their mother because of her love for life and the love they shared. She was also a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, John Magie, of Forestburgh; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Owen and her husband, Terry of Dolgeville and Joan M. Kehlenbeck and her husband, John Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville; six grandchildren, Daniel Kehlenbeck and his wife, Karin of Huguenot, Andrew Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville, Timothy Kehlenbeck of Cuddebackville, Susan M. Miller and her husband, Gregg of Schuylerville and Sherry Anne Owen of Herkimer; four great-grandchildren, Login, Kylie, Nathaniel and Benjamin.
She was predeceased by three children who died at birth.
A Mass to celebrate Ruth’s life was held Wednesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Forestburgh.
Burial was made in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Route 42, Forestburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Ret. IBM, 80
Oscar Perez of New Hampton, a longtime resident of the area, having retired from IBM in Poughkeepsie, died Sunday, August 26, 2007 at home. He was 80.
The son of the late Oscar and Manuela Ayala Perez, he was born on May 13, 1927 in Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Perez was a Veteran, serving in the United States Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Perez at home; his children, Victor Perez of Wurtsboro, Nancy Bruen of Middletown and Teena Perez of Somerset, N.J.; his stepsons, Eugene Noboa and Eddie Noboa, both of Middletown; his brother, Edwin Perez of Palm Coast, Fla.; his sister, Norma Kersch of the state of Florida; his grandchildren, Christopher, Justin, Victor, Michael, Ryan, Robert, Kristine, Heather, Joseph, Jordan and Duane Lee; and his great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Hailey; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Agatha Perez.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 29 at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown.
Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Harold Schwartz
Livery Driver, 72
Harold Schwartz of Sackett Lake, a self employed livery driver and longtime area resident, passed away at home on Sunday, August 26, 2007. He was 72.
Harold was born in New York City on June 7, 1937, the son of Bernard and Mina Tames Schwartz.
He is survived by his son, Bernard Schwartz and his wife Kim; his brother-in-law, Sol Winn of Sackett Lake; his former wife, Sandi, her husband; and his three grandchildren, Ashley, Angel, and Alyah.
A graveside funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 29 in Beth Israel Memorial Park Cemetery Woodridge, N.J.

Betty Jane Conklin
Rite Aid Employee, 52
Betty Jane Conklin, of Napanoch, entered into rest August 26, 2007 at Westchester Medical Center after a long illness. Her siblings were at her side. Betty was brave and strong until the end. She was 52.
The daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Ann Roebuck Conklin of Spring Glen, she was born August 28, 1954 in Liberty.
Survivors include her daughter, Amanda Jane Morinico and husband, Carlos; and their children, Clara and Wyatt of Ellenville; her sisters, Mary Ann Balducci and husband, Robert of Walden, Jeanne Phillips and husband, Donald Phillips of California, Joyce Ann Conklin of Spring Glen; brother, George Conklin and wife Eileen of Napanoch; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, uncles and friends.
She was predeceased by her brother, Jack and her nephew Ryan Phillips formerly of Napanoch.
She was a lifelong resident and employed at Rite Aid. She was an avid reader and chocolate lover.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 30 at the Loucks Funeral Home, Ellenville. A family friend, Andrea Wells officiated.
Burial was made in The Ulster Heights Cemetery, Ulster Heights.

Ret. Manager, 62
Judith A. Reynolds, a retired manager of the VEO Store in Rock Hill, died at home on Thursday, August 30, 2007. She was 62.
Judy was born in Teaneck, N.J. November 21, 1944, the daughter of Woodrow King Sr. and Frances (Erion) King.
She is survived by her mother, Frances Gusty of Mongaup Valley; her husband, Alan “Moose” Reynolds at home in Monticello; her beloved and loving children, daughter, Tracy Whitney and her husband, Rick of Highland Lake and two sons, Frances "Rusty" James Welsch of Monticello and Robert Welsch and his wife, Cheryl of Monticello; her sister, Sharon Nastro of Mongaup Valley; brother, Robert King and his wife, Barbara of Queensbury; her cherished grandchildren, Christopher Fererro, David Welsch, Kyle Welsch, Carlie and Alaine Gaughan; and by Joan Dailey of Monticello who was like a sister to Judy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Judy was predeceased by her dear son, Ronald Welsch; her brother, Woodrow King Jr.; and by her father, Woodrow King Sr.
Funeral service were held Monday, September 3 at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc., Monticello.
Father Robert Ginel officiated.
Cremation will be at the convenience of the family at the Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh.

Charles Scheuer
Retired from IBM, 76
Charles Scheuer, who retired after 41 years with IBM as an engineering manager, passed away Sunday August 12, 2007 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 76.
Charles was born in The Bronx Jan 29, 1931. He and his sister spent many happy summers with their grandmother, Mary Keegan Scheuer, at the family farm in the Beechwoods of Callicoon.
Charles is suvived by wife, Jan Huber Scheuer; daugther, Katha Underwood (Gary); son, Paul (Sally); brother-in-law Bob Baurley; grandsons, Ty and Cade Underwood and Christopher, Cooper, and Cody Scheuer.
Charles was preceeded in death by a son, Peter, in 2005.
Betty K. Johnson
Ret. Office Wrkr., 74
Betty K. Johnson, of Westshire Circle, Delavan, Wis., died Monday, July 9, 2007 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was 74.
Betty was born on April 7, 1933, in Lookout, Pa., daughter of Everett and Laura (Hawley) Keesler. She married Robert E. Johnson in Callicoon on May 11, 1952. He died on March 5, 2004.
Betty worked in the office of Elkhorn Chemical Co. for 19 years, retiring in May of 1995.
Survivors include her four children, Robert E. Johnson of Elkhorn, Sandra L. (Charles) Pretzman of Elkhorn, Pamela A. (Michael) Tasch of Lake Geneva and Jeffrey B. Johnson of Spring Green, Wis.; three grandchildren, Justin Newkirk, Sonya Johnson and Jennifer Tasch; a great-grandchild, Kyler Newkirk; her mother, Laura Keesler of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Arthur (Jane) Keesler of Callicoon Center; and a sister, Nancy Hankins of Conklin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her father, Everett Keesler; and a brother, James Keesler.
Memorial services were held at Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home, Elkhorn.
Entombment will be at Rose- lawn Memory Gardens in the Town of Delavan.
Memorials may be made in Betty’s name to St. Patrick’s Catholic School.

Louis F. Gaffney
Ret. NYC Firefighter, 68
Louis F. Gaffney of Loch Sheldrake, a retired New York City Firefighter and a twenty-five year area resident died Monday, August 27, 2007 at the Westchester County Medical Center, Valhalla. He was 68.
The son of the late Louis F. and Eileen Driscoll Gaffney, he was born March 23, 1939 in the Bronx.
Lou served our country in the US Navy, he was a member of the New York City Retired Firefighters Association, Orange County Division.
Survivors include his wife, Diane L. Sochinski Gaffney at home; two sons, Louis Gaffney and his wife, Lisa of Yonkers and Gary Flynn and his wife, Carol of Hurleyville; two daughters, Virginia O’Connell and her husband, Thomas of Middletown and Lorraine VanDeWeert and her husband, Dale of Middletown; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, August 30 in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Liberty. The Rev. Ivan Csete will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty.
