Dorothy F. Bruns of Seattle, Wash., a retired nurse for the Liberty Medical Group with 30 years service and a former 45-year Liberty resident, died Monday, June 16, 2003, in Seattle. She was 82 years of age.
The daughter of the late Max and Ada Knoth, she was born January 20, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa.
While a resident of Liberty, Mrs. Bruns was an active member of both the Town of Liberty Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Sullivan County Golf and Country Club.
She is survived by her husband, Robert F. Bruns of Seattle, Wash.; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Colleen Bruns of Anchorage, Alaska; a grandchild, Pamela Racicot; a great-granddaughter, Carrissa Racicot of Forks, Wash.; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara and Larry Katz of Liberty, Gail and Col. James Bulken of Evans, Ga., and Gertrude Bussonne of Philadelphia, Pa.; and 11 nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held this fall in Liberty.

Vito Verdi, 82
Ret. Constr. Supt.
Vito Verdi of Middletown, a retired construction superintendent, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 82 years of age.
The son of the late Luigi and Maria Catrinella Verdi, he was born October 21, 1920, in Brooklyn.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he was one of the last survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor for which he had received the Purple Heart. He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne with over 80 jumps and fought in both the European and Pacific theatres of the war, where he also served as a medic.
Mr. Verdi worked in the construction industry as a superintendent and contractor throughout the Hudson Valley and lived most of his life in Sullivan County.
In a family statement, it was said, "Pop's legacy of hardwork, humor and generosity of heart will remain with us always."
He is survived by his wife, Gisele Drolet Verdi, at home; three children, Jim Verdi of Cochecton, Adele Shapiro of Narrowsburg and Suzanne Doller of Carlisle, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Casey, Courtney, Jessica and Robert; a great-grandson, Christian; Lou Rathbun; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Louise Verdi Collins and Theresa Kenney. He was predeceased by two brothers, Vincent James Verdi and Joseph Valentine Verdi, and three sisters, Sylvia Morman, Marion Sardonia and Annie Kenney.
Friends may call at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Peter's Church, Broadway and Liberty St., Monticello.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Monticello.

Paul M. Weber

Paul Martin Weber of Callicoon, a retired employee of the New York City Transit Authority, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Grover M. Hermann Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon. He was 52 years of age.
The son of Eleanor Passante Weber Cook and the late Paul Alfred Weber, he was born May 8, 1951, in Astoria.
Mr. Weber was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Callicoon and was a volunteer boxing coach for the Police Athletic League.
He is survived by his mother of Callicoon; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Andres Guerra of Astoria; two sisters, Carol Ann Cook of Callicoon and Virginia Michaels and her husband, Joel, of Queens; his uncle and aunt, Marty and Marion Passante of Callicoon, several nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Jude Weber, and his step-father, William Allen Cook Jr.

Philip Salon

Philip Salon of Hurleyville, the retired owner and operator with his late wife of Salon's Corner and Salon's Bungalow Colony in Hurleyville, died at the home of his daughter in Silver Spring, Md., on Tuesday, June 24, 2003. He was 91 years of age.
The son of the late David and Ida Stemp Salon, he was born October 4, 1911 in Passaic, N.J. He was the widower of Marion Salon.
Mr. Salon was a member of Congregation Anshei Hurleyville, a former assessor for the Town of Fallsburg and a Fallsburg Central School Board member for 24 years.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Shepard and Corine Salon of Schenectady; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Salon and Jay Goldman of Silver Spring, Md.; a brother, Leo Salon of White Plains; and two grandchildren, Seth and Abby Goldman.
Services were held Thursday at Congregation Anshei Hurleyville with Rabbi Marvin Goldman officiating.
Burial was made in Congregation Anshei Hurleyville Cemetery in Hurleyville.

Winifred O. "Winnie" Hessinger of White Sulphur Springs, a lifelong area resident and a retired receptionist for Dr. John R. Muccia of Liberty, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 74 years of age.
The daughter of the late Ora and Pearl Wilber Parks, she was born October 27, 1928, in New Jersey.
An active community member, she was a member of the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, and a charter member and past president of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member and past president of the White Sulphur Springs Nightlighters, a member of the Sullivan County Cooperative Extension, a member of the White Sulphur Springs PTA, the White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizens and the White Sulphur Springs Cemetery Association.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edward Hessinger, at home; a son, Robert Hessinger of Youngsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, April and Joseph Kissel of White Sulphur Springs and Janet and Keith Fritzinger of Poughkeepsie; three brothers, and sisters-in-law, Leslie and Elsie Parks of Youngsville, Dale and Rose Parks of Syracuse and Robert and Marilyn Parks of White Sulphur Springs; six grandchildren, Chris Austin, Kevin Austin, Amy Black, Jessica Hessinger, Andrew Hessinger and Bethany Fritzinger; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial will be made in Laurel Hill Cemetery in White Sulphur Springs.

Ret. Bookkeeper, 86
Pauline B. McAllister, a four-year resident of Callicoon and a retired bookkeeper, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at the Grover Hermann Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Callicoon. She was 86 years of age.
The daughter of the late Frank and Pala Bezerics, she was born October 16, 1916, in Elizabeth, N.J. She was the widow of Elmer Hunter McAllister.
Mrs. McAllister was a member of the Basha Kill Area Association Inc. in Wurtsboro, the Woodland Weavers and Spinners Guild of White Mills, Pa., and the Embroiderer's Guild of America in Louisville, Kty.
She is survived by a son, Michael K. McAllister of Avon, N.C.; a daughter, Elizabeth McAllister of Youngsville; four grandchildren, Sangela Kirby, Natasha Nicol, Anouk Lindley and Felicia Eskridge; five great-grandchildren, and four nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Greenhill Cemetery in Wilmington, Del., at a later date.

Leon J. Teed
Ret. Electrician, 69
Leon J. Teed, a 43-year resident of White Sulphur Springs and a retired master electrician, died Monday, June 23, 2003, at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 69 years of age.
The son of the late Earl and Tillie Weiss Teed, he was born August 10, 1933 in Hancock.
A member of the United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs, Mr. Teed was a president of the board of trustees and past-president of the United Methodist administrative board. He was a member and past-president of the Laurel Hill Cemetery Association, a member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Dept., and the W.S.S. Chapter of Sullivan First. He was also a member of the Panther Mountain Hunting Club, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In a family statement it was said: "Leon was the best of the best. He loved his family, his home, and his community. He was a wonderful blessing to everyone who knew him. His love, kindness and gentle ways will live on forever in our hearts."
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Eggler Teed, at home; two daughters, Robin and her husband Ed Sostak, and Pamela Rourke; four grandchildren, Nicole Sostak, Katelyn Sostak, Kelsey Rourke, and Matthew Rourke, all of White Sulphur Springs; a father-in-law, Ralph Eggler, of White Sulphur Springs; a sister, Arrietta Lent of Otego; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Christoph Teed of Venice, Fla., Truman and Darlene Teed of Columbia, S.C., and Nelson and Betty Teed of Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday at the United Methodist Church, White Sulphur Springs, with the Rev. Bridget LeConey officiating.
Burial was made in Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.

Eleanor H. Bende

Eleanor H. Bende, a former resident of Monticello for 73 years, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at Oak Hill Nursing Home, Ithaca. She was 93 years of age.
The daughter of the late Fred and Myra E. Roxbury Harris, she was born on February 25, 1910 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the widow of Bernard C. "Ben" Bende.
Mrs. Bende was a retired supervisor of the New York Telephone Co. in Monticello, having worked 35 years for the company. She was a member of the Kingston Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Stewart and her husband, Harold of Interlaken, and two grandsons, Charles Stewart of Laurel, Md. and Timothy Stewart and his wife Suzanne of Ithaca. She was predeceased by a sister, Martha Harris.
Cremation was made at Cayuga Crematory, Dryden.
A graveside memorial service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Messenger Cemetery, South Woods Road, Monticello with the Rev. Steven Knutsen officiating.
