Ret. Physician, 84
Martin J. Goldstein, D.O., a former resident of Roscoe and a general practitioner in the area, died March 27, 2003 in the state of Florida after a short illness. He was 84 years of age.
A native of New York, Dr. Goldstein was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School, New York University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and was the key figure in the building and running of the Roscoe Community Hospital and Nursing Home from 1959 to 1970. He was a general practitioner in Roscoe from 1948 to 1975, during which time he delivered hundreds of babies and set dozens of broken bones. He continued to be involved with the Roscoe Nursing Home from 1970-1975, after which he moved to the state of Florida.
Dr. Goldstein continued a private practice for a few years and then joined some of his colleagues in opening the Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine where he was a professor of rural medicine, lecturing on general practice and geriatrics.
Dr. Goldstein also developed and directed a singular program that brought medical students to rural health clinics in central Florida to attend to the medical needs of migrant workers, a program which still serves as a model for rural health care and medical education nationwide. In collaboration with SECOM and the Everglades Area Health Education Center, he developed a summer educational camp for high school students that introduces underserved youth to careers within the health services industry.
In 1997, Dr. Goldstein was awarded the accolade of Educator of the Year by the National Rural Health Association.
He is survived by three children and their spouses, Terry Joshi, Meg Schlefer and Robb Goldstein, and three grandchildren. He was the husband of Naomi Goldstein.

Naomi Goldstein
Ret. Administrator, 75
Naomi Goldstein, a former resident of Roscoe and a retired administrator of the Roscoe Community Hospital and Nursing Home, died June 4, 2003 after a long illness. She was 75 years of age.
A native of New York City, Mrs. Goldstein attended Brooklyn College. In 1948, she and her husband, Dr. Martin J. Goldstein, relocated to Roscoe where he became the town physician. She was active in community affairs, and worked with her husband in the establishment and operation of the Roscoe Community Hospital and Nursing Home, for which she was the administrator, and the Roscoe Community Nursing Home.
After their move to Florida in 1975, Mrs. Goldstein was deeply involved in bringing theatre, music and ballet to the southern region of the state. She participated in the organization and operation of "Music at Eight" and the Palm Beach Festival of the Arts.
She is survived by three children, Terry Joshi, Meg Schlefer, and Robb Goldstein, and their spouses; and three grandchildren. She was the widow of Dr. Martin J. Goldstein.

David M. Kivler
Building Superintendent, 49
David M. Kivler, a longtime resident of Narrowsburg and a building superintendent in New Paltz, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at the Taylor Care Center at Westchester. He was 49 years of age.
The son of the late John and Lillian Perry Kivler, he was born on February 18, 1954 in Suffern.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Debra Miller Kivler, at home; two sons, Joshua DuBois and Jeramie Kivler, both of Narrowsburg; three brothers, John Kivler of the state of Florida, Russell Kivler of New Jersey, and Richard Kivler of Westbrookville; three sisters, Elaine Niles, Christine Lasik, and Celeste Kivler, all of Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Kivler.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, with Rev. Ivan Csete officiating.

Homemaker, 79
Betty Florence Post of Livingston Manor, a homemaker, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Horton Campus of the Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late Louis and Florence Lawrence Geleng, she was born September 17, 1923, in Hackensack, N.J. She was the widow of Rodney Post.
Mrs. Post is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Susan Post of Livingston Manor; a grandson, Richard Post of Rainelle, W. Va.; a granddaughter, Tracy Skaggs of Wallkill; and a great-grandson, Alden Michael Post. She was predeceased by two brothers and four sisters.

Irving Simon
Ret. Pharmacist, 81
Irving Simon of Loch Sheldrake, a retired pharmacist at Mt. Lebanon Hospital in the Bronx, died Friday, June 6, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Sam and Anna Simon, he was born May 22, 1922, in New York City. He was the widower of Esther Simon who died in 1990.
Mr. Simon was a member of the Hurleyville Synagogue and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Rose Tessler Simon, at home in Loch Sheldrake; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Christina Simon of Schenectady, Steven and Dafna Simon of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Robert and Fara Simon of Montvale, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Eric, Ziv, Maayan, Zachary, Jacob, Matthew and Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday at the Hurleyville Synagogue with Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz officiating.
Burial was made in the Hurleyville Synagogue Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
John Petrowsky
U.S. Marine, 19
John Stewart Petrowsky of Klamath Falls, Oreg., a lance corporal in the U. S. Marine Corps, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in Camp Lejeune, N.C. He was 19 years of age.
The son of John A. and Rebecca "Becky" Fouse Petrowsky, he was born December 10, 1983, in Harris.
He moved to Klamath Falls, Oreg., in 1996 and attended Klamath Union High Schools, earning his GED degree. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing.
Lance Corporal Petrowsky volunteered for and had been on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps since December 3, 2001, where he was trained as a tank mechanic.
He is survived by his parents of Klamath Falls, Oreg.; a sister, Dawn Deann Fletcher of San Diego, Calif.; his paternal grandparents, Art and Luella "Lou" Petrowsky of Rock Hill; his maternal grandfather, Robert F. Fouse of Klamath Falls, Oreg.; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Hollingsworth of Needles, Calif.; a niece, Amy Lynn Avila of San Diego, Calif.; and numerous other family members.
A service was held at Eternal Hills Chapel in Klamath Falls with Deacon Ken Morton officiating.
Edwin R. Dunn Jr.
Truck Driver, 62
Edwin R. Dunn Jr. of Roscoe, a truck driver with NY Bituminous in Chester and a longtime area resident, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, He was 62 years of age.
Born July 19, 1940, in Hackensack, N.J., he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958-1961. Mr. Dunn was a member of Teamsters Local 560 in Union City, N.J.
He is survived by his wife, Betty L. Faulkner Dunn, at home; two sons, Edward R. Dunn III of Walden and Theodore Dunn and his wife, Kim; a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and John King; three step-children, Debbie Melvin and her husband, Wayne, of Roscoe, Connie Minckler and her husband, Gerald, of Long Eddy, and Daniel Faulkner of Roscoe; and eight grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Lucille Frey officiating.
Burial will be made in Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe.

Donald Baker, 87

Donald Baker of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a former 24-year Sullivan County Treasurer, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, in White Sulphur Springs. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late Lewis and Anna Hunt Baker, he was born June 1, 1916, in Liberty. He was the widower of Agnes Slaver Baker, who died in 1998.
A World War II Navy veteran and a Purple Heart recipient, he was a member of the Clarence Hoyt Post #9217, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Corp. Russell D. Sprague Post of the American Legion, both in Liberty. Mr. Baker was also a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, the Liberty Masonic Lodge #521, Free and Accepted Masons; and a 60-year member of J.C. Young Hose Co. #1 of the Liberty Fire Department.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Dolores Baker of Liberty; two brothers-in-law, Chester Slaver of Liberty and Deming Slaver of the state of Florida; two granddaughters, Kelly and Caitlin Baker, both of Liberty; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Baker, who died in 2000.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.

Ambrose R. Jagger of Westbrookville, a retired production foreman with Channel Master in Ellenville and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at the Milford Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was 93 years of age.
The son of the late Mercer and Elizabeth Litts Jagger, he was born September 27, 1909, in Madison, N.J. He was the widower of Rena Ann Bensinger Jagger who died June 9, 1980.
Mr. Jagger is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Bonnie Jagger of Westbrookville; two brothers, Richard Jagger of Greeley, Pa., and Walter Jagger of Hatfield, Pa.; two sisters, Bertha Linsley of Arlington, Va., and Ellen Mae Bryson of Canaan, N.H.; a granddaughter, Brenda Jagger of Monticello; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial were held Monday at the Westbrookville Cemetery with Rev. Ronald G. Clark officiating.

Ida Victoria Antosh of Dumont, N.J., a retired bank teller, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the Emerson Health Care Center in Emerson, N.J. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Joseph and Wilhelmina Küspert Brockner, she was born March 13, 1914, in Jeffersonville. She was the widow of John Antosh.
Mrs. Antosh is survived by 13 nephews and nieces and their spouses: Alan and Ruth Brockner, Arlene and George Young, Russell and Lois Brockner, John and Joann Brockner, all of North Branch, Josephine and M. Grant Miller of Jeffersonville, Patricia and William Conklin of Callicoon Center, Peggy and Frederick Steffens, Jenny and Frank Bauernfeind, Paul Brockner, all of North Branch, Patricia Brockner of Sandy, Oregon, Leslie and Patrick Davis of Gresham, Oregon, Michele and Glenn Glassel of Jeffersonville, and Elizabeth "Beth" and Todd Gorton of upstate New York; several grand-nieces and grandnephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, William Brockner and John Brockner, and a sister, Wilhelmina "Dolly" Brockner.
Graveside services and burial of the cremains will be made on Friday at 1 p.m. at the George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus and Century Roads, Paramus, N.J., with the Rev. James H. McKinley officiating.
