Ret. Bookkeeper, 88
Pauline Burday of Monticello, a retired bookkeeper for the Beaumont School in Liberty and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. She was 88 years of age.
The daughter of the late Seymour and Esther Podolsky Savetsky, she was born September 20, 1911, in Russia. She was the widow of Frank Burday.
Mrs. Burday was a life member of Hadassah.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Gerald Burday of Monticello and Dr. Seymour Burday and his wife, Irene, of Cape Cod, Mass.; five grandchildren, Laura, Rachel, Sabrina, Larry and Irving Burday; and four great-grandchildren, Jaclyn, Rachel, Rebecca and Alex Burday.
Graveside services were held Sunday in Temple Sholom Cemetery in Monticello with Rabbi Irwin Tanenbaum officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home in Monticello.
Elaine D. Davidson
Ret. Music Teacher, 83
Elaine Dodge Davidson, a 50-year resident of Delmar, a 7-month resident of Child's Nursing Home, a retired music teacher and a native of Callicoon, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Albany Medical Center from complications following a stroke in January. She was 83 years of age.
The daughter of the late Walter Lloyd and Laura Albright Dodge, she was born May 17, 1917, in Callicoon. She was the widow of F. William "Bill" Davidson who died February 14, 1985.
A graduate of Callicoon High School Class of 1934 and the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, in 1938, she taught public school music for five years. Mrs Davidson was an accomplished piano player. She spent the war years at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., where her husband was stationed. Before and after the war, Bill worked as a newspaper and AP reporter. He retired from the position of Executive Director, NYS Thruway Authority in 1978.
Mrs. Davidson was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Delmar and worked with the youth choir there. She was also a member of the Delmar Progress Club and a member of the Bethlehem Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Dodge and Judy Carey Davidson, and their children, Chris, Scott and Julie, all of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Thomas Lloyd and Nancy Kaczor Davidson, and their children, Mark and Ellen, all of Slingerlands; two cousins in Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews in Ohio. She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Dodge.
Services were held Thursday at the Applebee Funeral Home in Delmar.
Burial will be made in the Dodge family plot in the Methodist Section of the Callicoon Cemetery in Callicoon at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Marian Sandra James
Ret. Housekeeper, 67
Marian Sandra James of Monticello, a retired housekeeper at the Concord Hotel and a 45-year area resident, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 67 years of age.
The daughter of the late Percy and Winnie Rivers Saunders, she was born September 15, 1932, in Miami, Fla. She was the widow of Arnold James who died November 26, 1955.
Mrs. James was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Jarius Wilkerson Drake at St. John Institutional Baptist Church in Miami, Fla., of which she was still an active member. She attended public schools in Dade County and graduated with the Class of 1952 from Booker T. Washington High School in Miami, Fla.
In a family statement, it was said, "Marian was a faithful caring sister and extraordinary and loving mother and grandmother, a God fearing Christian, very active conscientious virtuous woman. One who certainly exemplified the genuine characteristics of a phenomenal woman."
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Afonso and Rafeki James of South Fallsburg; a brother, Samuel Rivers of Miami, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lucille Dozier and Mickey S. and Willie Walker, all of Miami, Fla.; an aunt, Jessie Sawyer of Miami, Fla.; an uncle, Jesse Jenkins of Monticello; three grandchildren, Ashley Kirk, Asia James; and Afonso James Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Cremation was private at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A Memorial Service was held Thursday at the First Baptist Church in South Fallsburg with the Rev. Anthony Black officiating.
Funeral arrangements were made by Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello.

Frederick Joseph Stout Jr. of Bloomingburg, a retired machine operator for Delford Industries in Middletown and a longtime area resident, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Frederick J. Sr. and Catherine Shaw Stout, he was born August 6, 1921, in Tomkins Cove. He was the widower of Alice VanSyckle Stout.
Mr. Stout was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two sons, Arthur F. Stout of Bloomingburg and Robert P. Stout of the state of Florida; four daughters, Mary "Cookie" Osborne, Ellen Stout and Dolores Lynch, all of Bloomingburg and Helen Rodrequez of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Theresa Ashenselder of Garnerville and Laura Dillon of Stony Point; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Friday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home in Wurtsboro with the Rev. Robert Pinto officiating.
Burial was made in the Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery in Bloomingburg.

Arthur H. Thaler of Jacksonville, Fla., a former Monticello resident, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, July 2, 2000. He was 56 years of age.
He was the son of the late Rose and Robert Thaler.
Mr. Thaler was president and founder, with his wife, of Gold Star Deliveries, a courier service in Jacksonville, serving hospitals, doctors, etc. His company covered most of Florida and sections of the states of Georgia and South Carolina. He was involved and donated much time and resources to the Safe Harbor Boys Home, dealing with problem children.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Thaler, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Robb and Melissa Thaler, a daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Dan, and two grandchildren, Magen and Joshua, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; an uncle, Victor W. Gordon of Monticello; and numerous cousins.
Graveside services and burial were held Tuesday at Arlington Park Cemetery in Jacksonville, Fla.

Joseph Lenk, a resident of Rossmoor Care Center in Walnut Creek, Calif., a retired kosher meat market owner and former Monticello resident, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at the Center. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Moshe and Feiga Lungen Lenk, he was born September 10, 1920, in Rubizewicz, Poland.
Mr. Lenk was a member of the Landfield Avenue Synagogue in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife, Leah Lenk of Walnut Creek, Calif.; two sons, Morris Lenk of El Sobrante, Calif., and Marc Lenk of Petaluma, Calif.; a daughter, Rae Lenk-Eckholm of Lafayette, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Sara, Alison, Monica and Rebecca.
Services were held at the Sinai Memorial Chapel in Lafayette, Calif., with Rabbi Yaakov Kagan officiating.
Burial was made in the Rolling Hills Cemetery in Richmond, Calif.

Louis Robert Parenti of Deland, Fla., a retired presser for a dry cleaning company and former resident of Middletown before moving to Florida in 1975, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Woodland Terrace in Deland, Fla. He was 89 years of age.
Mr. Parenti was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Deland, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Parenti of Deland, Fla.; a son, Louis C. Parenti of Wurtsboro; a daughter, Laraine Tripp of Deland, Fla.; a brother, Anthony Parenti of Middletown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Jerry Hall Bryant of Tampa, Fla., a painter for Service Painting Corporation, a former Westbrookville resident before moving to Florida in 1979, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was 62 years of age.
Mr. Bryant was born in Heightstown, N.J.
He is survived by his wife, H. Lynda Bryant of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Jerry Joseph Bryant of Tampa, Fla., and R.W. Timothy Bryant of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters, Lynnette Rose Bryant and Ashliee Blair Bryant, both of Tampa, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

Rae Goldfarb Young
Ret. Poultry Farmer, 89
Rae Goldfarb Young of Longmeadow, Mass., a former resident of Glen Wild and Hallandale, Fla., died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Jewish Nursing Home of Western Massachusetts where she had resided the past four years. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Reuben and Eva Master Goldfarb, she was born March 1, 1911, in Romania, now Moldova. She was the widow of Louis Young who died in 1974.
She emigrated to New York City when she was two years old and spent her childhood in New York City where she graduated from James Monroe High School in Brooklyn.
Mrs. Young assisted her parents with the operation of the New Majestic Hotel in Liberty in the early 1930s. She and her husband, Louis, moved to Glen Wild in 1939 where they operated Young's Poultry Farm and a tourist lodge for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Young was a personal shopper, selling women's apparel in private homes, hotels and bungalow colonies. She briefly operated a retail store in Monticello.
She was a sales clerk at Macy's Department Store and participated in the labor organizing movement of the 1930s in New York City. An active member of the American Labor Party of New York State in the 1940s and 1950s, she helped organize a successful civil rights campaign in the 1950s to improve the conditions of migrant African-American laundry workers in Woodridge.
Mrs. Young was a founding member of the Glen Wild Women's Club, a member of the Glen Wild Synagogue, Hadassah and a "pink lady" volunteer at the former Monticello Hospital.
Always keeping active, she studied dancing with Winona Bimboni in Monticello, enjoyed oil painting and won several prizes in amateur shows. Her autobiographical writings were collected in a book entitled "Caskill Chronicles." Following her retirement, she moved to Hallandale, Fla., where she worked part-time as a personal caretaker to the elderly.
Mrs. Young is survived by a son, Allen Young of Royalston, Mass.; a daughter, Diane Keijzer of Aruba; a sister, Anne Laven of North Miami Beach, Fla.; a brother, Leon Goldfarb of Stoughton, Wisc.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There were no funeral services.
Following cremation by the National Cremation Service in Quincy, Mass., a memorial publication will be distributed to friends and family.
