Ruth Lachterman
Ret. Warden's Asst.

Ruth "Gram" Lachterman of Dallas, Tex., a former resident of Woodbourne and Tamarac, Fla., died Thursday, October 12, 2000.
The widow of Joseph Lachterman, Mrs. Lachterman was retired from the Woodbourne Correctional Institution after serving over twenty years as the warden's administrative assistant.
In a family statement, it was said, "Dignity, courage and integrity pervaded her life. Her wisdom, humor and love continue to guide her family and friends. Her spirit will be with us always."
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Nate Levine; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ettie Lachterman; 10 grandchildren, Abbe Sue and Daniel Witheiler, Steven Levine, Jolie and Michael Newman, Yosef, Shimon, Sara, Miriam and Aliza Lachterman; two great-grandchildren to whom she was known as "Gigi", Sophia and Leah Witheiler; and a sister, Arlene Marder of New York City.
Memorial contributions may be made to Solomon Schecter School Library, 18011 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Tex. 75252.

Donna E. Clark
Retired RN, 51

Donna E. Clark of Roscoe, a former registered nurse at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home and former longtime Jeffersonville resident, died Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. She was 51 years of age.
The daughter of Earl L. and Gloria Higbie Clark, she was born September 16, 1949, in Walton.
Miss Clark was a 1970 graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Newburgh.
She is survived by her parents of Roscoe, a brother, Donald Clark of Exeter, N.H.; two nephews, Aaron Clark of Lowell, Mass., and Seth Clark of Methuen, Mass.; a niece, Karen Clark of Methuen, Mass.; an aunt, Betty J. Clark of Walton; and an uncle, Jack W. Clark of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Services were held Sunday at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Jeffersonville with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.
Burial was made in Paige Cemetery in Downsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Roscoe & Rockland Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the Roscoe United Church, both at Roscoe, N.Y. 12776.

Elizabeth Edwards
Homemaker, 85

Elizabeth Augusta Edwards of Liberty, a former Monticello resident and lifelong area resident, died Thursday, November 2, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. She was 85 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harry B. and Nellie L. Parker Stratton, she was born May 7, 1915, in Centerville (Woodridge). She was the widow of Joseph Edwards.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Rock Hill.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas H. Edwards of Monticello, Lamont H. Edwards of Rock Hill and Kevin J. Edwards of Red Hook; two daughters, Patricia E. Adams of Newport, Va., and Joanne O. Morse of Stalker, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William Edwards, a brother, Harry Stratton, and two sisters, Gertrude Craft and Frances Slater.
Services were held Monday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Roy Shaffer officiating.
Burial was made in the family plot at the Glen Wild Cemetery in Glen Wild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Council of Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Infirmary Road, Liberty, N.Y. 12754 or to Rose Valley Senior Center, 45 Plaza Dr., Monticello, N.Y. 12701.

James Max Steele
Ret. Office Emply., 83

James "Jim" Max Steele of Bloomingburg, a more than 50-year area resident, died Friday, November 3, 2000, at his home, after a battle with cancer. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Joseph and Bertha Duclaw Steele, he was born March 1, 1917, in Brandon, Vt.
A World War II veteran, he fought in the Philippines. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Steele was a retired office employee at Delford in Middletown.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Theresa Wisneski Steele, at home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Rollin Cook of Bloomingburg, Lorraine and Bob Otterbein of Warwick and Liz and Philip Sicuro of Wurtsboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Ann Steele of Middletown and James and Susan Steele of Bloomingburg; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Bloomingburg.
Interment was made in the Bloomingburg Cemetery in Bloomingburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange in Hudson Valley, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, N.Y. 12550.

James G. Durning
Ret. Boiler Maker, 86

James G. "Roger" Durning of Pine Bush, a retired boiler maker with Local #5 in New York City and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, November 1, 2000, at the New York United Hospital in Port Chester. He was 86 years of age.
The son of James and Louise Leonard Durning, he was born September 3, 1914, in Highland Falls.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he had also served with the U.S. Merchant Marines. Mr. Durning was a member of the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush and the Screen Actors Guild with his brother, Charles Durning.
In a family statement, it was said, "He enjoyed the racetrack and poker games and was an avid golfer."
He is survived by his wife, Florence Wickham Durning, at home; three sons, James Durning of Pine Bush, Roger Durning of Middletown and Timothy Durning of San Francisco, Calif.; a daughter, Maureen Kelly of Burlingham; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Durning, and a sister, Frances Milliman, both of Highland Falls. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford Durning and Gerald Durning.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush with the Rev. Alfred Gallant officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Bush Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Box 407, Pine Bush, N.Y. 12566.

Beatrice Isseks
Ret. Piano Teacher, 92

Beatrice Isseks of Middletown, a former piano teacher and 65-year area resident, died Thursday, November 2, 2000, at the Horton Medical Center in Middletown. She was 92 years of age.
The daughter of the late Theodore and Ida S. Rosenthal, she was born September 11, 1908, in Syracuse. She was the widow of Irving Isseks who died November 28, 1996.
An alumna of Syracuse University, she was a member of Temple Sinai in Middletown, a life member of Hadassah and a member and former vice president of the Sisterhood of Temple Sinai. She was also a member of the Century Club of Horton Medical Center, formerly served on the Board of Directors of Community Concerts and played piano at Temple Sinai for many of its functions.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carole and Arnold Bailis of Gladwyne, Pa.; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Theodore N. and Nancy Isseks of Liberty; a brother, Irving Phillips of Syracuse; four grandsons, Matthew Bailis of Denver, Colo. Philip Bailis of Radnor, Pa., and Jerald and Marshall Isseks of Liberty; and two nieces. She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Jacob and Benjamin Phillips.
Services were held Friday at Temple Sinai in Middletown with Rabbi Joel Schwab officiating.
Interment was made in Temple Sinai Cemetery in Circleville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

John W. Derby Sr.
Ret. Bldg. Super, 81

John W. Derby Sr. of Claryville, a retired building superintendent for Half Moon Apartments in Irvington and a 35-year resident of Irvington, died Tuesday, October 24, 2000, at the Walnut Mountain Care Center in Liberty. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Edwin and Cleo Emery Derby, he was born November 3, 1918, in Johnson, Vt.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, he was an ex-chief of the Irvington Fire Department.
Mr. Derby is survived by his wife, Connie Derby; a son, John W. Derby of LaGrange; a daughter, Sandra Pezzillo of Ewing, N.J.; three brothers, George Derby of Englewood, Fla., Edwin Derby of North Billerica, Mass., and Thomas Derby of East Middlebury, Vt.; three sisters, Mary Olsen and Margaret Ticehurst of Abbeville, S.C., and Grace Billings of Middlebury, Vt.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial were private.

Edward H. Miller
Ret. Treatment Asst., 70

Edward H. Miller of Westbrookville, a retired treatment assistant at the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center in New Hampton, the owner and operator of Miller Maintenance, Inc., in Middletown and a lifelong area resident, died Saturday, November 4, 2000, at the Campbell Hall Health Care Center in Campbell Hall. He was 70 years of age.
The son of the late Harry and Mary Elizabeth Grey Miller, he was born February 4, 1930, in Sussex, N.J.
Mr. Miller was a member of the New York State Law Enforcement Union, Council #82.
He is survived by three sons, Lance E. Miller of Montgomery and Michael L. Miller and Matthew W. Miller, both of Middletown; three daughters, Karen Purcell of Middletown, Carol Jellner of the state of Florida and Dana Miller of Harrisburg, Pa.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were private.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

Matthew Corigliano
Ret. Businessman, 81

Matthew J. Corigliano (Corey) of Liberty, a retired business owner and longtime area resident, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 4, 2000, at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 81 years of age.
The son of the late Gus and Jenny Lacomore Corigliano (Corey), he was born May 1, 1919, in Brooklyn.
He worked with his father at Corey's Restaurant in Liberty and was the owner/operator of Corey's Liquor Store in Liberty for 40 years.
Mr. Corigliano was a member of St. Peter's Church in Liberty. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, he saw action in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio Beachhead, Rome and Florence (Italy). He was wounded in Siena, Italy, for which he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eva Hubert Corigliano; three sons, Vincent Corigliano of Livingston Manor, Thomas Corigliano of Roscoe and Glenn Corigliano of West Haven, Conn.; two daughters, Eve Krum of Ferndale and Dawn Eggleton of Roscoe; three sisters, Pauline Cucci of Liberty, Rose Rustic of North Carolina and Rita Corey of Warwick; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, John and Scott Corigiliano, and two brothers, Cosmo and Vincent Corigliano.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Church, 264 North Main St., Liberty, with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be made in St. Peter's Cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Sullivan-Delaware Chapter, 14 St. John St., Monticello, N.Y. 12701 or the charity of one's choice.
