Carl Eugene Gorton of Ft. Braden, Fla., a retired aerospace engineer, died Friday, May 2, 2003, in Florida.
A native of Liberty, he had been a resident of Merritt Island for 30 years before moving to Fort Braden.
Mr. Gorton was a former Eagle Scout. He had been an aerospace engineer for Bendix Corp., where he worked on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Lunar Project.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia L. Gorton, at home; three sons, Douglas Keith Gorton of Tallahassee, Fla., Christopher Carl Gorton of Titusvillle, Fla., and Glen Gary Gorton of Elizabethtown, Pa.; two daughters, Linda Lee Irving of Charlotte, N. C., and Victoria Faith Hodges of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Raymond Gorton of New York State; two sisters, Joyce Carr of Florida and Patricia Strickland of Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services and burial were held in Florida.
Salvatore DeMauro
Ret. Carpenter, 79
Salvatore "Sal" DeMauro of Narrowsburg, a retired carpenter and construction consultant for Narrowsburg Lumber, a former Town of Tusten Code Enforcement Officer and a 51-year area resident, died Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at his home. He was 79 years of age.
The son of the late Salvatore Sr. and Louise D'Arco DeMauro, he was born October 25, 1923, in Brooklyn.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the Tusten Lions Club, the Narrowsburg Fire Department, the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club and the Honesdale Golf Club. Mr. DeMauro was the founder of the Delaware Valley Little Fellows League.
He is survived by his wife of almost 55 years, June Eggler DeMauro, at home; two daughters, Linda Jobmann and her husband, Ron, of Clinton, Md. and Barbara DeMauro and her fiance, Richard Maloney, of Narrowsburg; two sons, Sal DeMauro Jr. of Narrowsburg, and David DeMauro and his wife, Sybil, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; a sister, Anna Flash of the state of Florida; two brothers, Fred DeMauro of New Jersey and John DeMauro of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Brian, Bradley, Justin and Meghan; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.

Jacqueline Pedersen
Ret. Manager, 64
Jacqueline "Jackie" Pedersen of Barryville, a retired department manager of K-Mart in Matamoras, Pa., and a 20-year area resident, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at her home. She was 64 years of age.
The daughter of the late John and Louise Pariapiano Lawrence, she was born September 2, 1938 in Scranton, Pa.
Mrs. Pedersen attended St. Anthony's of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Yulan.
In a family statement, it was said, "Jackie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be missed dearly by those of us who knew her well."
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Bruce Pedersen, at home; three sons, Stephen Lawrence of Rock Hill, Bruce Pedersen Jr. of Graham, N.C., and Brian Pedersen of Barryville; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kim Byron of Matamoras, Pa.; two brothers, Joe Lawrence and Paul Lawrence, both of Long Island; two sisters, Ona Buonocore of Scranton, Pa., and Edna Norris of Staten Island; three grandchildren, Danielle, Bruce and Alex; a close friend and adopted daughter, Dawn Halvorsen of Highland Lake; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Carl Pedersen who died in 1983.
Services were held Thursday at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville with Father Anthony Moore, pastor of St. Anthony's Church, officiating.
Burial was made at the Cemetery of the Resurrection in Staten Island.

Iris Lyn Rosen
Ret. Teacher, 49
Iris Lyn Rosen of Carbondale, Pa., a retired first grade teacher who taught in the Forest City School District for 18 years, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at the Moses Taylor Skilled Nursing Unit in Scranton, Pa., after a lengthy illness. She was 49 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harvey and Phyliss Dubin Rosen, she was born in Philadelphia, Pa., and resided in Carbondale for 23 years.
Miss Rosen was a 1971 graduate of Woodbury (N.J.) High School and a 1975 graduate of Drexel University. She was a member of the National Education Association.
She was of the Jewish faith and for many years was a choir member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Carbondale. Her interests were in working with young children, singing and rubber-stamping.
Miss Rosen is survived by a sister, Jacky Rosen of Roscoe; an aunt; an uncle; and several cousins.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.

Carl DiGirolamo
Mechanic, 66
Carl Joseph DiGirolamo of Bethel, a self-employed mechanic and a 2-year area resident, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 66 years of age.
The son of the late Michael and Mary Yazzetti, he was born July 28, 1936, in the Bronx.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Rivera of Hopewell Junction; two sons, Carl DiGirolamo and Anthony DiGirolamo, both of Middletown; a brother, John DeGirolamo of White Plains; two sisters, Mary and Helen, both of the Bronx; and 10 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at St. Denis Church, in Hopewell Junction.
Interment was made in St. Denis Cemetery in Hopewell Junction.
Michael Shaner
Ret. Police Offc., 61
Michael R. Shaner of Grahamsville, a retired Suffolk County Police Officer, died Sunday, June 15, 2003, in Newburgh. He was 61 years of age.
The son of the late J. Richard and Jean Louise DeLong Shaner, he was born March 21, 1942, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was the widower of Grace Shaner.
Mr. Shaner was a member and officer in the fraternal order of Police Eagles Nest Lodge #58, the Sullivan County Shields and the International Police Association. He was also a member of Skywarm, Southern Catskill Amateur Radio Society, the Woodbourne First Aid Squad, the Woodbourne Fire Department and the Woodbourne Fire Police. A member of the B.P.O.E. #1545 in Liberty, he was a volunteer at the Catskill Regional Medical Center and a member of the Medical Center's Auxiliary Board. Mr. Shaner was a special agent for the Sullivan County SPCA and he loved to play Santa Claus for many children and adult gatherings.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carol Shaner, at home; two sons, William Klusmeyer and his wife, Lisa, of Seffner, Fla., and Steven Shaner of Highland; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Randy Wilhelm of Grahamsville, Kathy and Casey Johansen of New Milford, Conn., and Jeanne and Eric Ferrentino of Brewster; a granddaughter, Donna Lynn Klusmeyer of Florida; two grandsons, Adam Heege and Jacob Johansen, both of New Milford, Conn.; a step-grandchild, Brittany Rae Johansen of Omaha, Neb.; a great-grandson, Dominick Klusmeyer of Florida; his stepmother, Doris Shaner of Whippany, N.J.; two brothers, David Shaner and his wife, Sally, of Margate, Fla., and Scott Shaner of Athens, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Donald Chettham of Berwyn, Pa.; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Shaner.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Woodbourne with Fr. John Lynch officiating.
Interment was made in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.

Robert P. "Bobby" Vogt Jr. of Middletown, a recreational vehicle mechanic at Snow Cat Country in Westtown and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, in Middletown. He was 32 years of age.
The son of Robert R. Vogt and Wendy Wilcox, he was born November 10, 1970, in Middletown.
He is survived by his father of Westtown; his mother of Loch Sheldrake; his stepmother, Laurie Vogt of Newburgh; four brothers, Michael Vogt of Loch Sheldrake, Justin Wilcox of Ellenville, William Vogt of Westtown and Joseph Wilcox of Loch Sheldrake; three sisters, Mardette Wilcox of White Lake, Lisa Vogt of Westtown and Rebekha Wilcox of Loch Sheldrake; his grandmother, Mary Wilson of Middletown; 12 aunts and uncles, Karen Attaway and her husband, Tracy, of Otisville, Richard Vogt and his wife, Susanne, of Westtown, Roxanne Wilson and Steve and Carol Wilson, all of Middletown, Donna and Gary Sheikowitz of Otisville, Rodney Wilson and David Wilson, both of Middletown, Linda Covey of Arizona, Carl Vogt of Courtlandt, Ralph Vogt of New York and Kathy Wilson of Fair Oaks; and many cousins.
Services were held Thursday at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home in Middletown.
Burial will be made at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Mount Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville.
John Marz
Ret. Comm. Artist, 86
John Marz of Liberty, a retired commercial artist and a 28-year area resident, died Sunday, July 27, 2003, at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, N.J. He was 86 years of age.
The son of the late John and Cecelia Weinrauce Marz, he was born August 21, 1916, in Austria.
He was a member of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and had displayed many of his art pieces at the Sullivan County Government Center.
Mr. Marz is survived by his wife of 40 years, Candida "Candy" DelToro Marz, at home; a daughter, Carolee Sheftel of Newton, Pa.; a son, Jonathan Marz of Ft. Lee, N.J.; a brother, Emil Marz of Melvern Park; a step-daughter, Hilda Duffy and her husband, James, of the Bronx; and two grandchildren, Lisa and James.
Services were private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones' choice or to the Arts for Children.

Joseph Bray
Ret. Carpenter, 87
Joseph Bray of Liberty, a former resident of Washington Heights and the Bronx and a carpenter by trade, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 87 years of age.
The son of the late John and Bridget Sheerin Bray, he was born September 24, 1915, in Limerick City, Ireland. He was the widower of Mary O'Dwyer Bray who died January 15, 2002.
As a young man, he was a volunteer in the Irish Republican Army.
Mr. Bray immigrated to the United States in 1953. He devoted much of his life to the advancement of the culture and language of Ireland. For many years, he was a professor of Irish language, history and culture at Sullivan County Community College and Orange County Community College. He was the recipient of the Irish American of the Year of Orange County award.
He was a co-founder, vice president and president of the Wild Geese Social Club of Washington Heights. Mr. Bray was a member of the Carpenters' Union Local 608, a longtime member of the Elks Club in Liberty and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to many Irish organizations, including The Limerickmen's Association, Member of Cumann an Fainne, Daltai na Gaeilge, Clan na Gael and Sean Oglaigh na hEireann (The old volunteers of Ireland), a charter member of the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick of Orange County, an honorary member of Friends of Irish Freedom, The Gaelic Cultural Society and the Connecticut Irish American Historical Society.
Mr. Bray is survived by five children and their spouses, Una (Bray) and Lyle Hayes of Greenwich, Aine and Marc Skyler of Booklyn, Sean and Christine Dillon Bray of Limerick, Ireland, Mairead (Bray) and Gary Musso of Hopkinton, Mass., and Patrick and June Carter Bray of Northboro, Mass; seven grandchildren, Deirdre Kornhiser, Tara Bray Keane, David Skyler, Joseph Bray, Alexandra Skyler, Molly Bray Hayes and Lelia Bray Musso; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Jennifer Keane.
A memorial service will be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at St. Peter's Church in Liberty. It will be followed by a traditional Irish wake at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Liberty.
The cremains will be flown to Ireland and a Funeral Mass will be offered at St. John's Cathedral in Limerick City, Ireland.
