Rev. William G. Smith of Eldred, the former pastor of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Newburgh, died Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown.
He was born April 2, 1921 in England, the son of the late Roydon and Bessie Cross Smith.
A member of the Deerpark Reformed Church and Port Jervis Masonic Lodge No. 328, F&AM, he was a veteran of the Army, serving in the Signal Corps in WWII. He was a life member of the DAV, and a member of the Sylvan Leibla American Legion No. 1363 of Eldred.
He was a 1948 graduate of Houghton College where he received his BA degree, and a 1961 graduate of Alfred University’s School of Theology where he received his Master of Divinity.
Rev. Smith was a former Baptist pastor in Indiana and New Jersey, former pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Florida, NY, and the organizing pastor of the Faith Baptist Church of Sparta, NJ.
He is survived by his wife, Madeline Webb Smith, at home; a son, Paul Smith and his wife, Lauren, of Keedysville, Md.; two daughters, Hope Mills and her husband, David, of Leetsdale, Pa. and Joy Chippendale and her husband, Gregory, of Marlboro; Seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and three nieces.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-7:30 pm Wednesday, January 17 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. Main St., Port Jervis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 18 at the Deerpark Reformed Church, 28 E. Main St., Port Jervis with Rev. Ann Rost officiating.
Burial will be made in Montoza Cemetery, Eldred.

James Conklin
Truck Driver, 56
James H. Conklin, a truck driver from Ellenville, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at home. He was 56.
The son of Milo J. and Wanda Hampton Conklin, he was born April 10, 1950 in Liberty.
James was a member of Teamsters Local 445 and worked for Clearwater Distribution in Woodridge. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was also a member of the Ulster Heights Rod & Gun Club.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, whom he married on January 3, 1968; his mother, Wanda; two daughters, Wanda Edwards and her husband John of Colorado, and Tina Conklin of Ellenville; two sons, James Conklin of Ellenville and Milo Conklin and his wife Stefanie of New Hampton; nine grandchildren: Austin French, Shauna Conklin, Anthonie Scott, Jonathan Conklin, Andrew Scott, Alyssa Scott, Milo Conklin Jr., Ethan Conklin and Issabella Conklin; three brothers, Daniel of Middletown, Thomas of Monticello and Stephen of Woodbourne; and a sister, Nancy Hannold of Woodbourne.
He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jacqueline Conklin.
Visitation was held Friday, January 12 at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 State Route 52, Woodbourne.

Salvatore Pisciotta
Ret. Fireman, 72
Salvatore "Sal" Pisciotta of Wallkill, a retired fireman of the Marine Division of New York City Fire Department, and a 23-year area resident, died Monday, August 4, 2003, at his son's home. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late Saverio and Vincenza Licari Pisciotta, he was born October 31, 1930, in Staten Island.
Mr. Pisciotta was a member of St. Joseph's Church in New Paltz, Sons of Italy, Plasterers Union in Long Island, the Monticello Harness Horsemen's Association and the US Trotters Association. For many years, he was involved in Little League and 4-H. He was also a musician, playing the trumpet and big band type music.
Before moving to the area, he owned Pisciotta Contracting, which consisted of home building and heavy equipment operating. After moving to the area, he owned the Misty Morn Ranch in Gardiner, was a part of the Ulster County Sheriff's Department Mounted Division and currently owned Sal Pisciotta Racing Stables in Wallkill.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Pisciotta, at home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Salliann and Carl Mosher of New Paltz, Janet and Butch DeVaux of Glens Falls and Trish and Pat Morris of Tillson; two sons, Steven Pisciotta and his fiancée, Alison, of Gardiner, and Matthew and his wife, Adrienne Pisciotta of Gardiner; a sister, Marie Poland, and a brother, Joseph Pisciotta, both of Long Island; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday at St. Joseph's Church in New Paltz.
Burial was made in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
Mildred L. Scott
Ret. Housekeeper, 87
Mildred L. Scott of Beach Lake, Pa., a retired housekeeper, a lifelong area resident and a former resident of Fosterdale and Jeffersonville, died Wednesay, August 6, 2003, at the Murry-Tufts-Garret Manor in Beach Lake, Pa., where she had resided for over 15 years. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Walter and Ida Layton Scott, she was born August 23, 1915, in Fosterdale.
She is survived by three nieces, Betty Morse of Clintondale, Beverly DiCapua of Highland and Marilyn Slizewski of Poughkeepsie; and a nephew, Robert Williams of Monticello.
Friends may call at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peg Van Siclen officiating.
Burial will be made in the Fosterdale Cemetery.

George Kovatch Jr., 55
George W. Kovatch Jr. of Washingtonville, a former resident of Stony Point, died Tuesday, June 24, 2003, at the Wake Memorial Medical Center in Raleigh, N.C . He was 55 years of age.
The son of Jennie Forbes and George W. Kovatch Sr., he was born June 11, 1948, in Suffern.
Mr. Kovatch was a veteran of the Marine Corps, serving from 1968 to 1972.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, John Forbes of Washingtonville; his father of Wappingers Falls; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Sophie Kovatch of the state of Florida; two sons, George W. Kovatch III and his wife, Teresa, of Havelock, N.C ., and James Kovatch of Bloomingburg and his companion, Pat C. Hak of Melbourne, Fla.; two grandchildren, Desiree and Courtney Kovatch; and three nieces, Sara, Kailin and Brianne Kovatch.
Services were held at the Marine Corps Chapel in Cherry Point N.C.
Burial of the cremains will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Goshen with the Rev. Helen Lindsay of the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Washingtonville, conducting the service.
William Mansbart
Ret. Businessman, 66
William Mansbart of Fremont Center, a former resident of Hicksville and a former proprietor of Gus Riddlinger's Towing Service, Inc., in Hicksville, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, in Fremont Center. He was 66 years of age.
The son of Mildred Hinch Mansbart and the late Herman William Mansbart, he was born November 12, 1938, in Amityville.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a life member of the North American Hunting Club.
He is survived by his mother of Farmingdale; his wife, Clementine Simoncic Mansbart, at home; five sons, William Mansbart of North Lindenhurst, David Mansbart of Centerport, Herman Mansbart of Farmingdale, Steven Mansbart of Smithtown and Timothy Mansbart of Farmingdale; a daugher, Judith Paruolo of Hicksville; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Pat Mansbart of Babylon; 12 grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
Friends may call at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home in Callicoon on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home, 385 Main St., Farmingdale, Thursday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and Friday from 2-5 and 7-9:30 p.m. .
Services will be held at the McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Burial will be made in the Amityville Cemetery.

Norberto A. Cruz
Retired Cook, 66
Norberto A. Cruz of Liberty, a 50-year area resident, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 66.
The son of Pedro Cruz and Juanita Alcaide, he was born October 25, 1940 in Hatillo, Puerto Rico.
He was a member of the Missionary of Christ Assembly of God Church, Liberty, and was a retired cook for Grossinger’s Hotel.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Serrano Cruz at home; two sons, Jose N. Cruz and his wife Virginia of Hurlburt Field AFB in Florida, and Jabiel Cruz and his wife Joyce of Dover AFB, Delaware; two daughters, Noemi Martinez and her husband Wilfredo of Liberty, and Abigail Edelglass and her husband Darrin of Roscoe; thirteen grandchildren, Josephine, Janet, Carmen, Jabiel, Nicholas, Adam, Sal, Willie, Marissa, Christina, Austin, Alyssa and Bradon; and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 14 at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty. Pastor Villafuerte will officiate.
Burial will be made in Liberty Cemetery.
Dylan N. Ricco
Infant, 6 months
Dylan N. Ricco of Liberty, infant son of Scott Ricco and Rose Toscano, died Saturday, September 9, 2007 at his home in Liberty. He was 6 months of age.
Dylan was born March 9, 2007 in Harris.
He is survived by his parents, Scott Ricco and Rose Toscano of Liberty; paternal grandfather, Richard Ricco of Woodbourne; paternal grandmother, Deborah DelVecchio of Florida; two brothers, Cody Ricco and Jose Bayron of Liberty; a sister, Chloe Ricco of Liberty; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Jane and Rocci Toscano.
A Memorial Mass was held on Thursday, September 13 at St. Peter’s Church in Liberty.
Cremation will be made at Cedar Hill crematory, Middle Hope.
Funeral arrangements are by Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., Liberty.
Herbert Gitlin
Real Estate Broker, 80
Herbert Gitlin of Monticello, a lifetime area resident and real estate broker, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. He was 80.
He was born in the Bronx on April 14, 1927 to Murray and Claire Hoffman Gitlin.
He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a longtime member of Temple Sholom in Monticello, The Jewish War Veterans, Rotary, and Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel, at home; his two daughters, Marcy Gitlin of California, and Cindy Gitlin of NYC; a brother, Mel Gitlin of Davie, Fla.; his sister, Evelyn Ilardi of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Temple Sholom Cemetery, Monticello. Rabbi M. Medwin officiated.
The family will be sitting Shiva at the family home in Monticello starting Sunday, September 16, until Friday, September 21.
The family asks that all donations in memory of Herb be made to Temple Sholom or to the Virginia C. Piper Cancer Center, Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Ariz.
