James A. Fobert, formerly of Bloomingburg, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at his home in Clermont, Fla. He was 63.
He was born October 8, 1943 in Providence, R.I.
Jim served as Parish Council Member at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville, where he was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals in Blooming Grove for eight years; had served as a Sergeant in the National Guard in Rhode Island for nine years, as well as an Umpire for the Little League in Washingtonville.
He worked as a Manager for Howlands and Steinbech in Middletown; was Director of Real Estate for Toys-R-Us; Vice President of Operations for Just For Feet in Alabama, and for the past nine years, Director of Real Estate for Staples, Inc.
He is survived by his dear wife, Jane Blanco Fobert; children, Michelle Michelson and her husband, Craig of Middletown, Paul Fobert and Jamie Murphy of Arlington, Va., Virginia and Thomas Fobert and wife, Jessica of Bloomingburg; grandchildren, Noah James and Luke David Michelson; her brother, William Fobert of San Francisco, Calif.; and cousins, nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law: Terry and wife, Sonjia Blanco, Grace and Brian McGuire, Vincent Blanco, and a special nephew of Jane Blanco and close friends, Deacon John and Helene Shepard.
Jim was predeceased by his mother, Helen; father, Charles Fobert, and brother, David Fobert.
Viewing will be held at David T. Ferguson's Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, N.Y. on Friday, February 2, 2007 from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Goshen Avenue in Washingtonville on Saturday, February 3 at 10 a.m., with Monsignor J. Cox officiating and assisted by Deacon John Shepard.

Alfred Trueman, 86
Alfred Trueman of Wurtsboro, passed away on December 18, 2006 at the age of 86.
A native of Ridgewood and Veteran of World War II, he was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Trueman and the devoted father of Shirley Vecera and Alice Walters.
He was the dear brother of Catherine McMahon and is also survived by two grandchildren, Elyssa and Ryan Wecera.
Interment was made in Calverton National Cemetery.
Harold Lazier Sr.
Retired Farmer, 91
Harold "Davey" Lazier Sr. of Middletown, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 21, 2007. He was 91.
The son of the late Charles and Susan Furman Lazier, he was born on March 27, 1915 in Greenville.
A farmer, Davey was also retired from the New Hampton School where he had worked as a supervisor, on the farm.
Survivors include his companion of over 35 years, Kathy Johnson at home; and his children, Anna Conkling and her husband, Robert of Crystal River, Fla., H. Pete Lazier and his wife, Bonnie of Middletown, Robert Lazier of Middletown, Linda Gadke and her husband, Paul of Homosassa, Fla. and Marlene Archer and her husband, Martin of Crystal River, Fla., Ronnie Lazier and his wife, Amanda of Ohio, Robert Stevens of Middletown, Cindy Doolittle and her husband, Tim of Cuddebackville, Jimmy Nowicki of Middletown and Brenda Cromwell and her husband, William of Bloomingburg; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bessie Weeden and several brothers and sisters, including his twin brother, Harry.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc., Middletown. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Plains Cemetery in Otisville.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Scholarship Fund of the Monhagen Hose Company #1, 81 East Main Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
Wallace “Pat” Benton
Ret. Logger, 85
Wallace "Pat" Benton, a lifetime resident of Livingston Manor, passed away Monday, September 10, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. He was 85.
The son of Nancy Davis and Elba Jay Benton, he was born on May 16, 1922 in Livingston Manor.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. He was a retired self-employed logger, and he loved to play the guitar and five string banjo, which he played for years at the round and square dances. Pat was also a die-hard N.Y. Yankees fan.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Tompkins Benton, whom he married on December 16, 1946, at home; two daughters, Caroline Profera and her husband, Michael of Round Top and Patricia Parks and her companion, Bob Bertholf; one sister, Nancy Tompkins of Wawarsing; three grandchildren, Frederick Parks of Connecticut, Mary Jane Edwards of Youngs-ville, Anthony Bertholf of Livingston Manor; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nathaniel and Amelia Edwards of Youngsville and Austin Bertholf of Neversink; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Herman and Orville Benton; his sisters, Reatha Jackson and Dolly Husch; and one granddaughter, Jaimie LD Bertholf.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, September 13, at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, Livingston Manor.
Interment was made in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery in Liberty.

Ret. Transit Authority, 67
Eugene F. Wenz of Pine Bush, retired from the NYCTransit Authority and a 30-year resident of the area, formerly of Brooklyn and New York City, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Middletown Park Manor. He was 67.
The son of the late George P. and Honora Tonry Wenz, he was born Dec. 27, 1939 in Brooklyn.
He was a member of the G. Paul Bettinger Post #1308 American Legion in Pine Bush; the Catholic War Veterans Eugene L. Kelley Post #1937; and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Church of the Infant Saviour in Pine Bush.
He was the widower of Ellen Wenz and Margaret Wenz.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Ann Wenz of Brooklyn; stepdaughters, Barbara Melvin and husband Michael of Bloomingburg, and Kathryn Asadoorian and husband Stephen; grandchildren, Kelli, Michael Jr. and Kathleen Melvin; and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, September 14 at the Church of the Infant Saviour, Pine Bush.
Burial will be made in Bloomingburg Cemetery.

George S. Vovchik
Retired Clerk, 67
George Stephen Vovchik of Smallwood, a retired vault clerk for Brink’s Armored Cars in Brooklyn, died Sunday, September 9, 2007 at the Catskill Regional Medical in Harris. He was 67.
The son of the late Elias Vovchik and Vera Grycho Vovchik, he was born June 27, 1940 in Brooklyn.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam era, and a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church in White Lake.
He is survived by his wife: Carol Ann Frolio Vovchik, at home; three sisters: Alice Pauzolis and her husband Joseph of Staten Island, Veronica Lynch and her husband Frank of Centereach, L.I., and Marian DeMarco and her husband Russ of the state of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother: Sonny Vovchik; and a sister: Irene Vovchik.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 15 at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Route 17B, White Lake. The Rev. David Coon will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Reformed Presbyterian Church, White Lake, NY 12786.
Interment of the cremains will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty at a later date.

Paul F. Flynn
Retired Superintendent, 74
Paul F. Flynn of Naperville, Ill., formerly of Roscoe, died Saturday, September 8, 2007 at his home. He was 74.
The son of the late Robert J. and Millicent Schadt Flynn, he was born July 13, 1933 in Callicoon.
He was a retired superintendent for S.A. Healy and NPI companies. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-54 on the U.S.S. Lyte and U.S.S. Antietam during the Korean War. He worked high lines and was a surveyor throughout New York State after leaving the Navy. He then worked tunneling for 45 years, starting as a chuck tender and ultimately aspiring to General Superintendent. He ran jobs in many areas of the U.S. and Canada. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Geraldine “Jerry” Hester Flynn, at home; two sons, Patrick Flynn and his wife Eria of Naperville, Ill., and Timothy Flynn and his wife Tina of Naperville, Ill.; one brother, Robert Flynn and his wife Beverly of White Sulphur Springs; one sister, Susan Flynn of Milford, Pa.; three grandchildren, Paul, Katie, and Brian; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 15 at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe. The Rev. Gus Richardson, OFM, will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be made in Beaverkill Cemetery.

Helen G. Davis
Homemaker, 91
Helen Gager Davis of Harrisburg, Pa., a homemaker, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at the Hershey Medical Center. She was 91 years of age.
The daughter of the late Harold and Ida Gager, she was born in Monticello. She was the widow of Walter G. Davis.
Her parents were the former owners of Gager's Diner on Broadway in Monticello. She was a 54-year resident of Scranton, Pa., before moving to Harrisburg in 1992.
Mrs. Davis is survived by two sons, Walter "Bud" Davis of Harrisburg, Pa., and Phil Davis of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Pastore of Harrisburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Phil Gager of Lady Lake, Fla.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Cremation was arranged by the Neill Funeral Home in Harrisburg. Burial of the cremains will be made in Abington Hills Cemetery in Chinchilla, Pa.
