Howard Anthony
Ret. Cook, 68

Howard "Howie" Anthony of Barryville, a retired cook for the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick and a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, January 6, 2004, at his home. He was 68 years of age.
The son of the late Floyd and Louise Brown Anthony, he was born December 19, 1935, in New York City.
Mr. Anthony was a member of Bethany Fellowship in Eldred and a shop steward for CSEA.
In a family statement, it was said, "On the snowy morning of January 6, 2004, Howard Anthony, beloved husband and father, went to be with the Lord. He was greatly loved and will be infinitely missed."
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maxine Wayne Anthony of Barryville; four sons, Marc, Michael, Jonathan and Kyle Anthony, all of Barryville; two daughters, Melissa Martinez and her husband, Carlos, of Woodbourne, and Kelley Sligh of Edgewood, Md.; three grandchildren, Shanice, Blaine and R.B.; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his dog and good friend, Ivan.
Services were held Thursday evening at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home in Barryville.
Burial was made in the Montoza Cemetery in Eldred.

Virginia E. Dunn
Homemaker, 87

Virginia E. Dunn of Hasbrouck, a homemaker, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 87 years of age.
The daughter of the late Daniel and Edith Davis Akerley, she was born October 28, 1916, in Willowemoc. She was the widow of Harold Cross Sr. to whom she was married 50 years
Mrs. Dunn is survived by her husband, Herbert Dunn,, at home; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Lillian and Gordon Miller of Liberty, Edith and Ralph Breakey of Swinging Bridge, Viola and Richard Benjamin of Southwoods, Louise Seitz and her companion, Jeff, of Woodbourne, and Donna and Peter Unger of Hurleyville; two sons, Harold Cross Jr. of Fallsburg and Roger Cross of Arkansas; four sisters, Audrey Curry of Curry, Vera Atkins of Neversink, Ella Charter of Grahamsville and Thelma Dobell of Florida; a brother, John Akerley of Neversink; 42 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three daughters, Roberta Schmitz, Dolores Katz and Dorothy Cross, a son, Robert Cross, eight grandchildren, nine brothers and a sister.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main St., Woodbourne, with Pastor Carl Caskey officiating.
Burial will be made in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.

Kane T. Nyman
Iron Worker, 27

Kane Tucker Nyman of Woodridge, a lifelong area resident and an iron worker for Hi-Tech Construction in Monticello, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 27 years of age.
The son of Richard Allen and Heather Brooks Leonard Nyman, he was born September 24, 1976, in Middletown.
He is survived by his parents of Woodridge; a daughter, Kelsey Brooke Nyman of Woodridge; two sisters, Judith Polomik and Dana Lynn Post, both of Pine Bush; three brothers, Chance Kyle Nyman of New Jersey, Mickey Todd Nyman of Westbrookville and Richard Allen Nyman Jr. of Hinesville, Ga.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Rd., Pine Bush, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middletown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Kingston, N.Y. 12401.

John T. Lawler
Ret. School Supt., 72

John T. Lawler of Canandaigua, a retired physical education teacher and a retired superintendent of schools for the Monticello School District, died Monday, January 5, 2004, at his home. He was 72 years of age.
The son of the late Edward and Margaret Bruce Lawler, he was born in Fort Edward.
Mr. Lawler graduated from Fort Edward High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport. He received his Master's degree in Education from SUNY Albany and began his career as a physical education teacher at Monticello High School.
He was a former member of St. Peter's Church in Monticello. After moving to Canandaigua in 1999, he worked part time as the coordinator for student teacher placement at Keuka College. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Mr. Lawler is survived by his wife of 50 years, JoAnn McCarty Lawler; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John E. Lawler of Watervliet, Kevin P. and Barbara Lawler of Wrentham, Mass., and Major Kelly J. and Mary Lawler of Harker Heights, Tex.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill A. and Robert Fogel of Geneva; and seven grandchildren, Kristen, Erin, Meghan, Kerry, Johnnie, Grace and Shannon.
A Memorial Mass was offered at St. Mary's Church in Canandaigua on Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the F.F. Thompson Foundation (Sands Cancer Center), 350 Parrish St., Canandaigua, N.Y. 14424.

Bruna H. Rosengard
Ret. Library Wkr., 94

Bruna Hazan Rosengard of Providence, R.I., a former resident of Brookline, Mass., and a 10-year worker at the Mugar Library at Boston University, died Thursday, January 1, 2004, at the Steere House Nursing Facility in Providence, R.I. She was 94 years of age.
The daughter of the late Rayna and Samuel Hazan and step-daughter of the late Rose Hazan, she was born in New York City. She was the widow of David Eli Rosengard.
Mrs. Rosengard is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Daniel Subotnik of Providence, R.I.; a son Robert S. (Gandalf) Rosengard of Smallwood; two grandchildren, Eva Subotnik and Joseph Subotnik; two brothers, Louis Hazan and Earl Hazan; and two sisters, Ruth Pearson Long and Leonore Levy. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sondra Hazan and Sarah Goldberger, and a daughter-in-law, Carol Rosengard.
Services were held at Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline, Mass., on Sunday.
Interment was made at the Atereth Israel Cemetery in West Roxbury, Mass.

William Wolochuk
Former Caretaker, 74

William Wolochuk of Monticello, a former caretaker for Town and Country Resort in Monticello, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 74 years of age.
The son of the late Paul and Alexandria Zavnoss Wolochuk, he was born June 26, 1929, in Brooklyn. He was the widower of Daisy DelToro Wolochuk who died October 13, 1989.
In a family statement, it was said, "Bill was a man who worked very hard to support his family. He was a devoted husband and loving father."
He is survived by three children, Debra A. Walden and her fiance, Fred Reiter, of Rock Hill, and James Wolochuk and Linda Wolochuk, both of Long Island; four step-children, Gilbert Suarez Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Eugene Suarez of Woodridge, Anthony Suarez of Monticello and Lillian Vasquez of Middletown; a brother, Harry Wolochuk of Centereach, L.I.; three sisters, Lillian Sarratino of Staten Island, Zinnia Graziono of Clearwater, Fla., and Elsie Perlongo of Largo, Fla.; two grandchildren, Racquel Wolochuk and Kevin Walden; two great-grandchildren, Ariel Williams and Tyreke Walden; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial will be made in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Middletown.

Helen Scardefield
Ret. Stanley Rep., 89

Helen M. Scardefield of Jeffersonville, a lifelong area resident and a Stanley Home Products sales representative for over 35 years, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 89 years of age.
The daughter of the late Matthew and Minnie Hubner Krum, she was born December 12, 1914, in Jeffersonville. She was the widow of Walter G. Scardefield Jr.
Mrs. Scardefield and her late husband owned and operated Scotty's Inn in Jeffersonville for many years.
She was a member and past matron of the former Lincoln Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in Jeffersonville.
In a family statement, it was said, "She was a caring and proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The family is grateful for the loving care and concern that she received from her caregivers at home and the staff in the Skilled Nursing Unit."
She is survived by three daughters, Marlene Williams of Syracuse, Shirley Seyler and her husband, Bill, of Delmar, and Helen Back of Jeffersonville; a son, Walter G. Scardefield III and his wife, Elaine, of Jeffersonville; a brother, George Krum of Youngsville; a sister, Emma Smith of Youngsville; seven grandchildren, Mark Williams of Syracuse, Sarah Steinman and her husband, Adam, of Portland, Maine, Cathleen Seyler of Encinitas, Calif., Douglas Seyler of Laconia, N.H., Kristine Scardefield of San Diego, Calif., Brian Scardefield of Callicoon and Allysa Back of Montgomery; and two great-grandchildren, Jessalyn and Theo Steinman. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Porter, and a son-in-law, Malcolm Back Jr.
Graveside services and burial were private.

John P. Andrae Sr.
Gen. Contractor, 56

John Phillip Andrae Sr. of Horton Brook, a self-employed general contractor, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, in the Town of Hancock as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 56 years of age.
The son of the late Herbert and Jane Lindroth Andrae, he was born November 13, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo.
Mr. Andrae was a member of the Post Republic Hunting Club in New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle L. Kearney Andrae, at home; two sons, John P. Andrae Jr. and Ryan L. Andrae, both of Manahawkin, N.J.; twin daughters, Michele J. and Melissa J. Andrae, at home; a brother, Henry H. Andrae of Missouri; and a sister, Karen Abshner of New Jersey.
Friends may call at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the Gate of Heaven Church in Roscoe with Monsignor William Collins officiating.

Betty H. Green
Ret. Nurse, 79

Betty H. Green of Umatilla, Fla., a retired nurse of the Community General Hospital in Harris and a former Woodbourne resident, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, in Florida. She was 79 years of age.
The daughter of the late Samuel and Lottie Thornton Hurst, she was born January 1, 1925, in Frederick, Okla. She was the widow of Peter Green who died in 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Joanne Ozolins of Neversink; three sons, James Green and his wife, Judy, of Boynton Beach, Fla., Stephen Green and his companion, Mary, of Milford, and Richard Green of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Ray Helm of Camby, Minn.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas Green.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at a later date.
Arrangements were made by the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home in Woodbourne.
