U.S., Obituary Collection, 1930-Current

Barbara Frost
Homemaker, 94

Barbara Frost of Pine Bush, passed away on July 14, 2007 in Elant at Newburgh. She was 94.
Daughter of the late Leland and Marion Proctor Frost, she was born August 11, 1913 in Beverly, Mass.
Survivors include her niece, Betty Anne Lutz of Cragsmoor; nephews, Charles L. Frost Sr. and his wife Carol of Pine Bush, and Gordon P. Frost Jr. and his wife Linda of Grahamsville; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Gordon Frost Sr.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17 in the DeWitt Funeral Home, 64 Center St., Pine Bush, with Pastor Albert Hewitt officiating.
Burial will follow in Walker Valley Cemetery, Walker Valley.
Arrangements are by DeWitt Funeral Home.

Lisa Fiske (Wieder)
Smith Corona Wrkr., 50

Lisa Diane Fiske (Wieder), formerly of Middletown died July 4, 2007. She was 50.
Lisa was born in Wilmington, Del. to Robert L. and Regina Wieder, and spent many years in Unadilla, and in Marathon where she worked at Smith-Corona in Cortland until it closed. She then lived in Middletown for many years and managed apartment complexes. Lisa was very outgoing and full of life and energy. She was a fanatic about cleaning. Her passions were reading, sunning on her sister’s dock at Wanasink Lake, working in her flower garden and family gatherings. Lisa loved her entire family deeply.
A family statement reads, “Lisa, your mom, dad and sisters love you and miss you. You are in the arms of God and in the heart of each one of us. You are now free of pain and worldly woes and now in a beautiful place where we will all be with you again someday. You will never be forgotten. Love, mom, dad, Linda and Debbie.
“P.S. We are sure you will help the Angels keep Heaven clean.”
She is survived by her parents, Regina Moore and her husband, Howard, of Unadilla, and Robert Wieder and his wife Mary of Elizabethtown, Pa.; a daughter, Jada Palmer, Bainbridge; a son, Jared Fiske of Vestal; sisters, Linda Lounsbury and husband Bob of Bloomingburg, Debra Lenz of Norwich, Patrice Carrow and husband Bob of Fredonia; brothers, David Wieder of Mansfield, Pa., and James and Joseph Moore of Sidney; grandchildren, Nickolas Bartko of Middletown, Logan Palmer of Guilford; her former husband, Dale Fiske of Vestal; special friends, Marilyn, Vickie, Lynn, Marlin and Ronnie; aunts and uncles of Marietta, Ga. and nieces and nephews, Shane Wieder of Louisville, Ky., Lindsay Antonelli of Middletown, Ryan Lounsbury of NYC, Dillon Lounsbury of Bloomingburg, and Shelby, Sydney, Jordon, Dale and Brianna Carrow of Fredonia.
She was predeceased by brother, David Moore of Unadilla.
Cremation was private. There will be no calling hours or burial.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Unadilla Methodist Church, 73 Main St., Unadilla.

Robert F. Budd
Ret. U.S. Mail Carrier, 79

Robert F. Budd of Parksville, a retired U.S. Mail Rural Carrier and lifelong area resident died Saturday, July 14, 2007 in Liberty. He was 79.
The son of the late Frederick and Mildred DeWitt Budd, he was born September 11, 1927 in Woodbourne.
Bob had worked from the Parksville Post Office. He was also a well-known contractor and tile setter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Russell Sprague American Legion Post #109 and the Clarence Hoyt V.F.W. Post #9217 in Liberty. He was a former member and served on the Board of Directors of the Sullivan County 4-H, and a former board member of Campers Holiday Homeowner’s Assoc. in Brooksville, Fla.
A family statement reads, “He was a great Dad, a good provider for his family and a loving husband.”
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara AuClair of Livingston Manor and Linda DeCarlo and her husband, Gene, of Liberty; one sister, Geneva Husch of Livingston Manor; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Butler and her husband, Donald, of Parksville, and Joan Allison and her husband, Lee, of Parksville; one brother-in-law, Otto Ernst Jr. and his wife, Lillian, of Monticello; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Ethel F. “Cindy” Ernst Budd; an infant son, Robert F. Budd Jr.; and a son-in-law, Ernest “Eddie” AuClair.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 16 at the Harris Funeral Home, Liberty. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiated.
Burial was made in the Rural Cemetery, Grahamsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550, or to the American Cancer Society, 95 Schwenk Dr., Newburgh, NY 12550.

Charles Drake
Ret. Harvester Operator, 73

Charles Drake of Middletown, a harvester operator, retired from Pine Island Turf Nursery, and a longtime resident of the area, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 73.
The son of the late Clarence and Margaret Elizabeth Gould Drake, he was born June 22, 1934 in Port Jervis.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila, at home; his daughter, Pebbles Drake and her fiancé, Ed Hunt of Mt. Hope, and his son, Charles E. Drake of Middletown. He is further survived by his brother, Larry Drake of Eldred; five grandchildren, Anthony, Bobby, David, Cameron and Charles; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, William, Robert and Clarence Drake, and his sisters, Dorothy Van Sickle and Elizabeth Fletcher.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 at the Ralston-Lippincott Funeral Home, 72 W. Main St., Middletown.
Burial will be made in Wallkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to be made in his name.
Arrangements are by Ralston-Lippincott-Hasbrouck-Ingrassia Funeral Home, Inc. in Middletown.

Clarence D. Lann Jr.
Maintenance Engineer, 74

Clarence D. Lann Jr. of Liberty departed this life on July 11, 2007 after a long illness. He was 74.
He was born to Clarence D. Lann Sr. and Lela Rawls Lann in Union, S.C. on January 1, 1933.
Clarence spent his early years in Baltimore, Md., where he attended Briscoe Junior High School and Carver Vocational Technical High School specializing in carpentry.
He served in the U.S. Army and his tour of duty included France and Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began working as a maintenance engineer in several hotels and apartment complexes in the New York area.
Clarence and Bertha Anderson were married and from that union two children were born, Catherine and Clarence III. They both predeceased their father.
His unique personality followed him wherever he went on planet earth. He was always full of fun.
In 2004, Clarence accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior when his family visited him in the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Center in Liberty. He was very proud of his brother Robert who is a Minister.
“BUB,” what his family called him, leaves behind to mourn their loss, his brother, Robert and his wife, Jean; his sister, Mary Elizabeth and her husband, Edgar Lee; his six grandchildren, nine nieces; five nephews, and a host of friends and co-workers.
He was predeceased by his siblings, John, William and Charles.
The family thanks all of the staff at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Center in Liberty for the fine work that was done in keeping abreast of Clarence’s condition in his last days, and the care and comfort that he was given while he was in the facility.
Burial was made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Liberty on Friday, July 13, 2007.

Betty K. Johnson
Ret. Office Worker, 74

Betty K. Johnson of Westshire Circle, Delavan, died Monday, July 9, 2007 at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was 74.
She was born April 7, 1933 in Lookout, Pa., the daughter of Everett and Laura (Hawley) Keesler. She married Robert E. Johnson in Callicoon on May 11, 1952. He died March 5, 2004.
Betty worked in the office of Elkhorn Chemical Co. for 19 years retiring in May 1995.
Survivors include her four children, Robert E. Johnson of Elkhorn, Sandra L. (Charles) Pretzman of Elkhorn, Pamela A. (Michael) Tasch of Lake Geneva and Jeffrey B. Johnson of Spring Green; three grandchildren, Justin Newkirk, Sonya Johnson and Jennifer Tasch; a great-grandchild, Kyler Newkirk; her mother, Laura Keesler of Punta Gorda, Fla.; a brother, Arthur (Jane) Keesler of Callicoon Center; and a sister, Nancy Hankins of Conklin.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; father, Everett Keesler; and a brother, James Keesler.
Memorial services were held July 13 at Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home.

Earl Mickel
Author, 69

Earl Mickel of Beach Lake, Pa., died Thursday, July 12, 2007 after a three-year battle with cancer.
Born in Hamlin, Pa., on July 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Edson and Laura Harloe Mickel.
He graduated from Lake Ariel High School, Class of 1956 and then served four years of service with the U.S. Coast Guard in Alaska. It was there he met and married his wife, Janene, on January 2, 1959 in the then territory of Alaska. Alaska became a state at midnight, January 3, 1959, and Earl liked to say they might have been the last couple married in the territory.
He worked as a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier for seven years, then was a real estate salesman, owning his own business, Longass Realty, with partner Wal Bolling.
In 1982, he and Janene moved to Beach Lake. Always a hunter, it was at this time his interest in the wild turkey began to grow.
He was the author of three books on turkey calls and call makers; he was considered the expert on that subject and owned a unique collection of over five thousand turkey calls.
He is survived by his wife, Janene; daughter Robin Zink and her husband Don of Ketchikan, Alaska and Guy Mickel and wife Helen, of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Kyle Mickel and his wife Sarah of Beach Lake, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Caleb, Janene, Molly, Kylie Sam and Max Mickel and Jaime and Jessie Zink; two brothers, Laverene and wife Nancy of Bound Brook, NJ, and Jerry and his wife, Ginny, of Savannah, Missouri.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Janet Meering, Judy Mickel and Bonnie Mickel.
At Earl’s request, a private family service will be held at their convenience.
Memorial contributions may be made to The National Wild Turkey Federation, “Jakes Program” or “Wheeling Sportsman,” P.O. Box 530, Edgefield, SC 29824.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg.

Pierina DePaolo
Ret. Sales Clerk, 82

Pierina “Perry” DePaolo of Carbondale, Colorado, and formerly of Jeffersonville, a retired sales clerk at Sullivan’s Department Story in Liberty, died on Friday, July 13, 2007 at Heritage Park Care Center, Carbondale, Colorado. She was 82.
Born on January 10, 1925 in Patterson, N.J., to Raffaele and Carmella Aniello Fraenza, she was married to the late Michael DePaolo, and a member of the St. Francis Church in Youngsville.
A family statement reads, “Perry had a wonderful sense of humor, always a smile and a quick wit. She was a devoted cat lover. She worked many years at Sullivan’s in Liberty as well as the gift shop at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon.”
Survivors include one son, Carmine DePaolo and his wife Laurie of New Castle, Colorado; one grandson, Corey DePaolo of New Castle, Colorado, one brother, Ralph Fraenza and his wife Audrey, of Henderson, Nevada, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael DePaolo and two sisters, Mary Salerno and Ida Cimiluca.
There are no calling hours. Graveside services and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at Calvary Cemetery in Youngsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Roaring Fork Hospice, P.O. Box 1970, Glenwood Springs, Colorado 81602 or to the charity of one’s choice.
