Nurse, 64
Carolyn Shaver of Laughlin, Nev., formerly of Lew Beach, passed away at home on Thursday, September 13, 2007 with her loving husband, Zane, and her sister Barbara and her husband, Myron, at her side. She was 64.
She was born in Margaretville on April 14, 1943. She worked at the Roscoe Nursing Home for over ten years before moving west.
Carolyn is survived by loving husband, Zane at home; mother, Nancy Ackerley of Margaretville; three children and their spouses, Brenda and husband, Bob Wolcott of Livingston Manor, Frankie Shaver and his wife, Maria of Daytona Beach Fla., and Lori Endriss and husband, Eric of Lew Beach; three sisters, Barbara Sanford and husband, Myron of Citrus Springs Fla., Marie Fairbairn and husband, Francis of Margaretville and Phyllis Ackerley of Kerhonkson; two brothers, Thomas Ackerley and wife, Carole of Waterford and Ralph Ackerley and wife, Diane of Boiceville; seven grandchildren, Chris, Nicole and Mitch Shaver, Allan Wolcott and wife, Amy, Eric Wolcott and wife, Kira and Carrie and Kyle Endriss, two great-granddaughters, Hailey and Cassie Wolcott; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her father, William Ackerley.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by all but we will always have our wonderful and funny memories.
Spreading of her ashes will be private.
George Hall
Ret. Metal Worker, 90
George Hall of Wallkill, a retired Metal Worker for Newburgh Scrap Co. in Newburgh, and lifelong resident of the area, died September 15, 2007 in Newburgh. He was 90.
The son of Frank and Lillian Smith Hall, he was born August 18, 1917 in Southfield.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary A. DiPerna Hall, at home; two sons, George F. Hall and his wife, Florence, of Wurtsboro, and Robert G. Hall and his wife, Darla, of Wallkill; one daughter, Dawn M. Green and her companion, Tony Xhudo, of Pine Bush; brother, Henry Hall of Gardiner; sister, Loretta "Babe" and her husband Fred Wescott of Binghamton; sixteen grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two daughters, Mary L. Palmer and Phyllis E. Humphrey; five brothers, Willard, Ray, Frank, Howard and Ernie Hall; one sister, Helen Muhlig; and one grandson, George Hall.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., Wallkill.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, at the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick Burden officiating.
Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Shawangunk P.B.A.

Linda A. Baldwin
Waitress, 61
Linda A. Baldwin of Greenfield Park, a lifelong area resident, passed away September 12, 2007 at Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, Newburgh, after a long illness, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 61.
The daughter-in-law of John & Wanda Baldwin, wife of John L. Baldwin, she was born September 20, 1945 in Middletown.
Linda worked as a waitress in the Middletown area for 46 years and she also did private catering. She was a loving and devoted wife, a proud and loving mother; an adoring grandmother. She loved yard work, crocheting, cooking and baking. Her greatest pleasure was her husband, family, grandchildren and friends during the holiday seasons. She always tried to be there for her family and friends in times of need and sometimes just to lend an ear.
Survivors include her husband, John L. Baldwin, at home; one daughter, Shondelle Luba and her husband, Henry, of Greenfield Park; three sons, Todd Roescher and his wife, Barbara of Goshen, Arthur Roescher and his wife, Eleanor, of Middletown, Brett Baldwin of California; her sister-in-law, Arlene Putter and her husband, Bill of Callicoon Center; ten grandchildren, Henry Vincent Luba IV, Todd Jr., and Raquel Roescher, Justin, Austen, Cody, Krystal Roescher, Tyler, George Baldwin and Raymond Stoley; her cousin, Carol Tees of Arizona; her dear friends, Cathy and Mike Wood; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 15 at the Morse Funeral Home, Middletown, with the Reverend Daniel Hulseapple officiating.
Burial was made in Hamptonburg Cemetery, Campbell Hall.

Joseph Aaron Lefflear
Ret. Chemical Operator, 90
Joseph Aaron Lefflear of Middletown died Friday, September 14th, 2007 peacefully at Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton. He was 90.
The son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Maher Lefflear, Joseph was born in Paterson, N.J. on July 2, 1917.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate in WW II. He served aboard 12 ships, steamed into Pearl Harbor with Admiral “Bull” Halsey on December 8, 1941 and witnessed the devastation first hand. Joseph participated in the famous Doolittle Raid aboard an escort ship, was in the Battle of Midway, as well as numerous other engagements. He was also aboard the ex-German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen when it was set in place at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, during the Operation Crossroads Atomic Bomb Test. He retired as a Chemical Operator at NEPARA Chemical, Harriman, was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and volunteered for the Orange County Office for the Aging.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Kinne Lefflear, at home; his son, Frederick Lefflear of Johnstown; step-daughter Muriel Rembe and her husband, Harry, of Wurtsboro; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
His son, David Lefflear, predeceased him.
Friends are invited to call Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 2-4 p.m. at Morse Funeral Home Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown. Memorial Services will be at 3 p.m. with Deacon John Frohbose officiating.
Burial will be made in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen with full military honors.

Leo Graham, 82
Leo Graham of Jeffersonville and Bavard, N.C., a 40-year employee of N.Y.A.B.C. and Eastern A.I. Breeders, died on Sunday, September 16, 2007 at The Hospice Residence in Hendersonville, N.C. with his loving family at his side. He was 82.
He was the son of the late Frank and Gertrude Graham of Jeffersonville.
He was married to the Helen Sehn Graham.
He is survived by three children, Matthew and Kate Graham of Evansville, Ind., Jeffrey Graham of Atlanta, Georgia; and Maureen Graham Blake and her husband Adam; one granddaughter, Aurora Blake; a brother, Jim Graham of Youngsville; two sisters, Isabell Graham Sander of Youngsville; Eileen Graham Kurey of Los Alomitos, Ca.; six nephews, Tim Kurey of California, Jim Kurey of Japan, Mike Sander of Lakeland, Fla., and Richard, Kevin and James Graham, all of Youngsville; and one niece, Jill Sander Welsh of Youngsville.
His brother, Pvt. Richard Graham, was killed in World War II in Germany. He was also predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Lynn Sander and Joe Kurey.
Cremation was made in North Carolina.

Lillie “Gia” Weiss

Lillie “Gia” Weiss of White Lake, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at her home. She was 74.
The daughter of the late Emmett and Frances Case Dailey, she was born April 14, 1933 in Cochecton Center.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Town of Bethel and a member of the Kauneonga Lake Firemen’s Auxiliary. She was an Avon representative of 37 years, achieving Honor Society and McConnell Club level. She loved the Lord, her family, gardening, travel, animals and the New York Yankees. She loved unconditionally.
She is survived by her cherished family who meant the world to her and who will miss her dearly; her loving husband, of 47 years, Marvin “Nuggie” Weiss at home; two sons, Walter Weiss of Douglasville, Ga., and Randy Weiss Sr. and his wife, Penni, of Stoutland, Mo.; two daughters, Debbie Ann Weiss and Laurie Jean Weiss, both of White Lake; three grandsons, Randy Jr. in the USMC in Calif., Keith and his wife, Cindy of Mo. and Timothy also of Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Megan, Helaina and Daniel; a sister, Jeanette Carito of Prompton, Pa.; a brother, Richard Dailey of Cochecton; several nieces and nephews; and her loving beagle, Daisy Mae.
She was predeceased by five sisters and four brothers.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. today, Tuesday, September 18, at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 3534 State Rt. 55, Kauneonga Lake.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 19 at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery, Rt. 17B, Bethel.

Kenneth O. Hansen of Monticello, a retired safety engineer for Peerless Insurance Co., died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at his home. He was 77 years of age.
The son of the late Eugenia and Elith Hansen, he was born August 23, 1927, in Jamaica, N.Y.
In a family statement, it was said, "Ken was always involved in community organizations, starting with the Civil Air Patrol and Boy Scouts in the 1940s and ending with the Monticello Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Ski Patrol on Holiday Mountain."
Mr. Hansen also served on the council and sang in the choir of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Jamaica. He was president of the Sperry Ski Club, a Scout Master in Keene, N.H., and on the ski patrol at Hogback Mountain in Vermont.
He is survived by his wife, Babette, at home; a daughter, Karen, and her son, Tyler, both of New Jersey; and a son, David and his wife, Cynthia Hansen, of San Jose, Calif. He was predeceased by a brother, Elith P. Hansen.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 55 St. John St., Monticello, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Private cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
A graveside service with military honors and interment of the cremains will be held Wedneday at 11:30 a.m. at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Stuart Lee DeWolf of Winston-Salem, N.C., a retired telephone company employee of both the Pacific Telephone Co. in Oakland, Calif., and Western Electric, died Sunday, February 6, 2005, at the Wakeforest University Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina. He was 78 years of age.
The son of the late Roger and Ella Campbell Gray DeWolf, he was born July 22, 1926, in New London, Conn.
In a family statement, it was said, "An avid 'rockhound' while living in California, he enjoyed camping and fishing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains as well as catfishing at Bob Fulton's pond on the Royce/Gully family farm in White Lake. It was here also, at Royce Crest farm, where he spent many happy hours blueberry picking, hunting squirrels, woodchucks and deer, and instilling in his sons a passion for outdoor adventure and a deep love for the natural world."
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving at Barber's Point NAS in Oahu, Hawaii, he was a member of the American Legion in Winston-Salem and a member of the Sgt. Andrew Brucher Post No. 5911,Veterans of Foreign Wars, in White Lake.
Mr. DeWolf was a member of the Southbound Model Railroaders Club, the Stamp Club of Winston-Salem the Forsyth Gem and Mineral Club and the Winston-Salem Bowling Association.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joanne Gully DeWolf; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan Campbell and Linda DeWolf of Quincy, Calif., and Stephen Royce and Leslie DeWolf of Lafayette, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan DeWolf, Eric Maurice DeWolf, Sara Lauren DeWolf and Claire Louise DeWolf; and two great-grandsons, Tristan and Alexander DeWolf.
A memorial service and celebration of his life was held February 11 at the First Christian Church in Winston-Salem with the Rev. Michael Simpson officiating.
Interment will be made in Evergreen Cemetery in Bethel at a later date.
