June Rose Hamel of Monticello, a 29-year area resident and a retired administrative assistant for the United Nations in New York City, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at her home. She was 80 years of age.
The daughter of the late Albert and Hildegard Bensen Thompson, she was born June 15, 1919, in San Diego, Calif. She was the widow of Wolfgang Hermann Hamel.
Mrs. Hamel was a graduate of Hunter College in New York City. She was a member of the Association of Former International Civil Servants, the Catskill Art Society, the Audubon Society and the Sullivan County Philatelic Society.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Peter and Linda Hamel of Chapin, S.C., and Dennis Hamel of Middletown; three grandchildren, Susan Rimmel of Greer, S.C., Laura Hamel of Simpsonville, S.C., and Steven Ronald Hamel of Middletown. She was predeceased by a son, Ronald Steven Hamel.
Services were held Sunday at the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Monticello with the Rev. Carol Gandy officiating.
Cremation will be private.

Gladys E. Milligan
Homemaker, 83
Gladys Estell Milligan of Lake Huntington, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, died Friday, February 18, 2000, at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale, Pa.
The daughter of the late William Jacob and Stella Nearing Bennedum, she was born November 13, 1913, in Lake Huntington. She was the widow of Louis Milligan who passed away in 1970.
Mrs. Milligan was a member of the Women's Community Club of Cochecton (WCCC), the Cochecton Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Cochecton Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a good friend, Ethel Hulse of Lake Huntington, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the Rasmussen Sons Funeral Home in Narrowsburg with the Rev. William Bonwitt officiating.
Burial will be made in the Fosterdale Methodist Cemetery in Fosterdale.

Helen A. MacIntyre
Homemaker, 99
Helen A. MacIntyre of Honesdale, a homemaker and a lifelong area resident, formerly of Beach Lake, Pa., Narrowsburg and Barryville, died Friday, February 18, 2000, at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center in Honesdale, Pa.
The daughter of the late John and Meta Toaspern Lass, she was born December 8, 1900, in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Edward MacIntyre who died in 1982.
Mrs. MacIntyre was a member of the Barryville United Methodist Church in Barryville.
She is survived by two nieces, Marion Guenther of Barryville and Jean MacDonald of Sidney; two nephews, Charles Lass of Burnt Hills and William Lass of Port Jervis; several cousins, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews. She was predeceased by a niece, Metz Hensz.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time at the Barryville United Methodist Church in Barryville.
Cremation was made at the Twin Tiers Crematory in Endicott.
Interment of the cremains will be made at Montoza Cemetery in Barryville.

Bernard Brown
Mechanic/Driver, 67
Bernard Brown of East Branch, a mechanic and driver for the Town of Hancock, died Saturday, February 19, 2000, at his home. He was 67 years of age.
The son of the late Ezra and Gertrude Muranie Brown, he was born August 19, 1932, in Monticello.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Teamsters #693 in Binghamton, the Read Valley Fish and Game, and a life member of NRA. He was an avid hunter and pool player.
He is survived by his step-mother, Gertrude Brown of Largo, Fla.; a son, Yancey Brown of East Branch; a daughter, Amy Loucks of Downsville; a brother, Jay Cross of Clearwater, Fla.; a step-brother, Claude Sprague of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sisters, Versa Amback of Roscoe, Evelyn Santangelo of White Lake and Mary Ann Huck of Largo, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Tyler Loucks; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ellinor Fletcher.
Friends may call at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel in Hancock on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel with the Rev. Earl Pomeroy and Rev. Paul Cicio of the East Branch Community Church in East Branch officiating.
Burial will be made in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty.

Joseph N. Wood, a 2-year resident of Livingston Manor and a retired freight handler, died Sunday, February 20, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 83 years of age.
The son of the late Edgar and Rose Goues Wood, he was born November 20, 1916, in Ridgewood.
Mr. Wood was a World War II Navy veteran, and a member of Locals 1816, 202 and 807 AFL-CIO.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Wood, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph A. and JoAnn Wood of Livingston Manor and Ronald and Kim Wood of Smithtown; a sister, Rose McKenna of Wantagh; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Herbert Swiss of Swan Lake, a retired designer for Leviton Electric Corp. in Little Neck, L.I., and an 11-year area resident, died Tuesday, February 15, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 80 years of age.
The son of William and Raye Swiss, he was born May 18, 1919, in Brooklyn.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Nancy Evans of Swan Lake; a son, Stewart Swiss of Northport, L.I.; two step-sons, Donald Evans of Hopewell Junction and Paul Evans of White Plains; a daughter, Sherri Kratky of Florida; a step-daughter, Elizabeth Colonna of Austin, Tex.; a brother, Gerald Swiss of Brooklyn; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Irving and Arthur Swiss.
Cremation was made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.

George Cohen, 86
Ret. Hotel/Cab Owner
George Cohen of Miami Beach, Fla., a former South Fallsburg resident and the 30-year owner of the former Commodore Hotel in South Fallsburg, died Thursday, February 17, 2000, at the Ryder Trauma Center at the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami Beach, Fla. He was 83 years of age.
Mr. Cohen was born in New York City in September of 1913.
While a youth, he trapped animals and sold the furs to New York City furriers.
After moving to Miami Beach, he became president of the former Mercury Taxi Cab Co., now Central Cab, and became active in taxi cab affairs in the area.
In a family statement, it was said, "He was a man not so much naturally good natured as intentionally good natured. He was an extraordinary family man whose primary joy was setting examples of good conduct, behavior and tradition for family members to follow."
Mr. Cohen is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sylvia Greenberg Cohen, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Dr. Warren Tepper and Andrea and Clark Nobil, all of Miami Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Shawn and Jamie Tepper and Jeremy and Holly Nobil; three nephews, Jack Cohen of Tucson, Az. Heshey Cohen, and Donald Lambert of Plantation, Fla.; and a niece, Renee Jacobson of Boca Raton, Fla. He was predeceased by a brother and four sisters.
Services were held Sunday at the Riverside Memorial Chapel in Miami Beach, Fla.
Burial was made at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Miami, Fla.

Ret. Truck Driver, 70
Robert "Rusty" H. Barnes of Livingston Manor, a retired truck driver for K & S Wholesalers in Liberty and a lifelong area resident, died Sunday, February 20, 2000, at the Seelig Division of Community General Hospital in Harris. He was 70 years of age.
He was born August 26, 1929 in Walton.
Mr. Barnes was a Korean War veteran, serving with the U.S. Marines.
He is survived by his wife, Iona Irwin Barnes, at home; three sons, Robert D. Barnes and William R. Barnes, both of Elmira, and Ronald Barnes of Hancock; a step-son, Richard Banks of Livingston Manor; two daughters, Diane Seibles and Iona Y. Barnes, both of Livingston Manor; three step-daughters, Laura Neer and Edna Banks, both of Livingston Manor, and Beatrice Banks of Farmington, N. Mex.; two brothers; three sisters; 42 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a step-son, Leslie Banks.
Friends may call at the Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 26 Pearl St., Livingston Manor, on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.
