Frank P. Buvis of Cooks Falls, a retired maintenance machinist for Grossman Steel Staircase of Orangeburg and a sixty-year area resident, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at St. Clares Hospital in Sussex, N.J. He was 94.
He was born November 5, 1912 in New York City.
Frank had been a Communicant of the Gate of Heaven Church, Roscoe.
Survivors include five sons, Frank Buvis and his wife, Barbara of Cooks Falls, John Buvis and his wife, Diane of West Nyack, George Buvis and his wife, Daisy of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Peter Buvis of Astoria and Charles Buvis and his wife, Patricia of Franklin, N.J.; nine grandchildren, George Buvis, Jr., Amanda Marallo, Patricia Gambutti, Jean Rutko, Corinne Buvis, Paula Fernandes, Daryl Buvis, Charles P. Buvis, Jr. and Michael Buvis; five great-grandchildren, Nicole and James Mason, Gina Fernandes and Casey and Carly Rutko.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Balchunas Buvis.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, January 8 in the Gate of Heaven Church in Roscoe. Monsignor William Collins officiated.
Burial was made in the Cooks Falls Cemetery, Cooks Falls.
Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Delaware Valley Health Center, Roscoe or St. Clares Hospital, Sussex, N.J.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, Roscoe.
Christine McKenna
Union President, 45
Christine Anne McKenna of Liberty, died Friday, January 5, 2007 in Loch Sheldrake. She was 45.
The daughter of Joseph Francis and Agnes Brew McKenna, she was born on October 17, 1961 in the Bronx.
Christine lived in the area for 10 years. She was the president of the Housewrecker’s Union #95 in Riverdale, and a member of St. Peter’s Church in Liberty.
A family statement reads, “I know you’ll be in the loving arms of God who will bless you and keep you ’til the time we’ll be together again. While you are there in God’s care, you will be so happy forever more. I’ll miss you, my beloved, but I’m grateful to have had you with me for all the years we were together.”
Survivors include her loving mother, Agnes McKenna of Liberty, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph F. McKenna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church, 264 N. Main Street, Liberty on Tuesday, January 9 at 10 a.m. Monsignor Edward Straub will officiate.
Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla.
Funeral arrangements are by Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., Liberty.
Sanford Krom
Ret. Police Officer, 82
Sanford Krom of Napanoch, a sixty year resident, and a retired officer for the Ellenville Police Department, died January 5, 2007 in Valley View Nursing Home, Goshen. He was 82.
The son of Jerry and Edna Crawford Krom, he was born March 28, 1924 in Hamburg, N.J.
He was a member of the Ellenville Veterans of Foreign Wars, the A.A.R.P., the Ellenville Reformed Church and the Wawarsing Masonic Lodge #582, F.&A. M.; an associate member of Kimble Hose Company; a former Ellenville Fire Department Fire Police; and a member of the D.A.V.
He served in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Behme Krom at home; his daughter, Lisa Lynn Krom of Ellenville; his brother, Herman Krom of Ellenville; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9 at 1 p.m. at Loucks Funeral Home, Inc., 79 N. Main Street, Ellenville. The Rev. Jay Vogelaar and Rev. James Beukelman will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will be in The Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville.

Anne C. Schlosser
Homemaker, 70
Anne C. Schlosser of Port Jervis, a 13 year resident of the area, died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 70.
She was born May 10, 1936 in Bronx, the daughter of the late Francis Martin and the late Mary Beckwith Martin. A former resident of Sloatsburg, she was a member of the Cannon Ball Yacht Club of Stony Point.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond E. Schlosser, Sr. at home; three stepsons, Donald A. Schlosser of Glen Spey, Raymond E. Schlosser, Jr. Port Jervis and Peter D. Schlosser of Sloatsburg; step daughter, Kathleen Hager of Fulton; two brothers, Frank Martin of Murrietta, Calif., James Martin of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Frances Villardi of Queens and Josephine Edlegass of Fort Worth, Texas; eleven grandchildren; one great granddaughter; also nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, January 10 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Germonds Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New City.

Georgia A. Horton
Ret. Housekeeper, 97
Georgia A. Horton of Eldred, a retired Housekeeper for Bertram Lodge and a lifetime resident of the area, died on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, Pa. She was 97.
The daughter of the late Robert and Jane Sullivan Rundle, she was born August 16, 1909 in Eldred.
She was married to Ernest Horton who passed away in 1968.
Survivors include her five daughters, Emaline Leek of Eldred, Madelyn Weiss and her husband, Roland of Kauneonga Lake, Elizabeth Wingert of Yulan, Gloria Schwartz and her husband, Albert of Honesdale, Pa. and Betty Milk and her husband, Edward of Hancock; seventeen grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Ellsworth and Kenneth; and a sister, Violet Hulse.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Gray-Rasmussen Funeral Home, Barryville.
Burial will be made in the Eldred Cemetery, Eldred.
Natalie Borg
Homemaker, 90
Natalie Borg of Goshen, formerly of Venice, Fla., passed away January 6, 2007. She was 90 years old.
The daughter of Henry and Carolyn Bissex, she was born January 7, 1916 in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mrs. Borg was an active member of her churches in Hackensack, N.J., Naugatuck, Conn., and Venice, Fla.
She was a member of the Naugatuck Women's Study Club, the Sarasota Women's Club, Thimble Collectors International and the Dorcas Thimblers. She was a volunteer at the Venice Hospital Thrift Shop and at the Venice Hospital Health Park.
Natalie is survived by her husband, E. Leonard Borg, of Goshen; four children, Virginia Wolfe and her husband, James of Middletown, Carolyn Kessinger of Yorba Linda, Calif., Frederick Borg of Panama City, Fla., and Siri Borg and her husband, Ernest Miller of Bloomingburg; four granddaughters, Jane Blum and her husband, Keith, Tracy Kohler and her husband, Chris, Jodi Wolfe and Catherine Wolfe; and two great-granddaughters, Madison and Victoria Blum.
She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Bissex.
A Memorial Service will be held in Venice, Fla., at the convenience of the family.

Harvey Moss

Harvey Moss, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Monticello, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 3, 2007.
He was born on June 16, 1954 in Monticello, the son of David and Arlene Moss.
Harvey was employed within the Newspaper Industry for over 30 years.
He is survived by his parents in Raleigh, N.C.; his brother, Shelley Moss and his wife, Wendy of Raleigh, N.C.; his sisters, Judy Resnick and her husband, Steven of Shelton, Conn. and Roberta Wyde and her husband, Steven of Raleigh, N.C.; his four nieces, eight nephews, four great nephews; and by other family and friends.
Harvey was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Moss; and by his niece, Laurie Resnick.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, January 7 at Mitchell Funeral Home, Raleigh, N.C. The family received friends following the service at the home of Roberta and Steven Wyde in Raleigh, N.C.

Dean Jackson Traverse
Ret. School Employee, 77
Dean "Jack" Jackson Traverse, Sr. of New Hampton, an employee having retired from the Minisink Valley School District, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus in Goshen. He was 77.
The son of the late Andrew and Willeta Cherry Traverse, he was born July 19, 1929 in Goshen.
A veteran, Mr. Traverse served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attended the Denton Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the New Hampton Fire Company, where he previously served as an Assistant Chief.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Traverse at home; his children, Dean Traverse Jr. at home, Michael Traverse and his wife, Terrie of Slate Hill, and Patrick Traverse of Bloomingburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Stephens, Matthew Traverse, Jason Traverse, Marie Traverse and Mark Traverse; his brother, Paul Traverse and his wife, Nancy of Inverness, Fla.; his sisters-in-law, Vivian Traverse, Helen Lippert and Mary Jane Lippert, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Kelsey and Kurtis Lippert.
As per Dean's wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, or to the Walter DuVall Scholarship Fund, c/o Denton Presbyterian Church.
